Unlike the rest of the worlds population, Karen's superhuman abilities don't come from the Terrigen Mists, they come from an accident that caused her to be encased in Vibranium a liquid metal that imprisons her and also obeys her thoughts.
She was mind-controlled by the Skull, an insane boy bent on conqouring America, for an unknown amount of time. Karen was soon freed from the Skull's control by Captain America who broke the Skull's neck.
Years later Karen was sent on a mission to the Savage Land by King Britain there she met the former X-Man Cable, now the Apocalopian, who gave her the key to freeing him and giving the Earth back it's Vibranium. Soon after she, along with her partner Jade Dragon who was also under the Skull's influence, joined the Iron Men.
