While in Texas, Storm stole a 1978 Mustang, and when the local police pulled her over she resisted arrest and used her mutant ability to create a thunderstorm. She was later busted out of the local jail by Jean Grey - Marvel Girl who offered her the chance to enrol at Xavier's school and join the X-Men.
Soon after joining, Storm accompanied the X-Men to recruit their newest and youngest member Bobby Drake who would one day develop a crush on her. Bobby, who had been targetted for termination by the Sentinels, was rescued by the X-Men.
Days later Storm and the X-Men travelled to Croatia to free the President's daughter from the Brotherhood of Mutants who had kidnapped her, during the battle, fellow teammate, Beast, was badly wounded and if not for the unexpected aid from Magneto, he would have died. After the X-Man Cyclops had defected to the Brotherhood, the X-Men soon recieved a transmission from him warning the X-Men of Magneto's coming attack on Washington DC. Storm helped defeat Magneto by destroying the Sentinels one at a time from afar.
During the next few weeks, she developed feelings for Hank McCoy - Beast. She was amoung the X-Men captured by Wraith and his Weapon X organization and kept under his control with the use of neural implants which would detonate if she tried to escape. During her time at the Weapon X compound she developed a deep hatred towards John Wraith. <img src="http://x-mencomics.com/xfan/images/headshots/ultimate/stormwx.jpg" align=right alt="Storm">
When the Brotherhood broke the X-Men and the Weapon X prisoners out - Storm attempted to kill Wraith, but was stopped by the young German mutant, Nightcrawler.
Storm then accompanied her fellow X-Men and Professor Xavier to Europe to help promote his new best-selling book. She, along with her boyfriend Beast, Wolverine, Professor Xavier and Iceman went to Muir Isle to track down the Professor's insane son Proteus, who had escaped.
After Ororo asked her teammates if Charles would ever screw around in their heads and after Proteus suggested that Ororo's feelings for Hank had been influenced by Charles, Hank started to doubt Ororo's true feelings for him. Even though Ororo tried to convince Hank of her real love for him, he still did not believe her. Eventually they broke up but not officially. Meanwhile, Hank started to chat with a mutant model named Naomi, who was in real life Blob. After he started to trust her, he revealed that Magneto was still alive, after which Naomi asked him on a date. On the night of their date, Hank was beat up by the Brotherhood of Mutants. Their psychics entered his mind and found out Magneto's whereabouts. When Beast warned the X-Men of what had happened, Ororo officially broke up with him. (Ultimate X-Men #19-24)
After the world found out that Charles lied about Magneto's death, the X-Men had to go in hiding from S.H.I.E.L.D. During that time, the X-Men learned of Scott's death in the Savage Land. For the first time, Storm was confronted with the reality that one of them actually died, which made her wonder who was next. After S.H.I.E.L.D. finally discovered the X-Men's hide-out, they sent in the Ultimates to battle the X-Men. Storm was able to immobilize S.H.I.E.L.D.'s equipement by creating heavy lightning. It was that same lightning, that made sure that Storm remained undetectable for a short period. Once S.H.I.E.L.D. was able to pinpoint her location, they sent in Thor, who defeated her. Thanks to Charles, the other X-Men were able to evacuate Storm, Wolverine and Colossus, but at the cost of Charles' liberty. (Ultimate War #2-4)
On one of the missions that the X-Men undertook to redeem themselves, Hank asked Ororo about her true feelings for him, now that Charles was out of the picture. Ororo admitted that, although they had broken up, that she still loved him. And so the two became a couple once again. When the X-Men found Magneto's Citadel, they attacked it. Storm was the first to directly attack him, but Magneto repelled her attack. It was only after the X-Men attacked Magneto strategically that they were able to defeat him. (Ultimate X-Men #29-31)
On a Parents' Day at the Xavier Institute, Hank could not believe his ears when his parents apologized to him for their racist, bigoted and small-minded behavior, which forced Hank to leave home. At that point, Hank decided to introduce them to Ororo. Big was their surprise when they met his Maroccan girlfriend. (Ultimate X-Men #32)
With the arrival of Angel, Hank started to doubt his place both as an X-Man and as Ororo's boyfriend. After Charles told Ororo that Angel was attracted to her and after Hank was blamed for having caused a religious gathering, he left the X-Men without even telling Ororo.
The first time that they saw eachother again was when the President introduced his own team of mutants, of which Hank was a part. But the presentation resulted in catastrophy when a Sentinel attacked. In the battle that followed, Hank rescued some civilians but died when a pile of rubble fell on him. In utterrage, Ororo attacked the Sentinel. But her rage made her reckless. In the end Charles had to put her to sleep as she was endagering the lifes of everyone else. During and after Hank's funeral Ororo mourned her boyfriend's death. (Ultimate X-Men 40-45)
Although Ororo mourned Hank's death, her rage did not go away. Together with her rage and her desire for revenge, Ororo changed her appearance radically. Although Ororo tried to push away her fellow teammates, Kurt talked to her after which she let go of her rage and her need for revenge. A little later, during a team-up with Logan to track down Mister Sinister, Ororo thanked Logan for not trying to fix her like the other X-Men had tried. But Logan understood why she underwent such a dramatic change in appearance. She wanted others to notice her, but at the same time she wanted to create a distance between her and the rest so that they could never hurt her again like that. That evening, Ororo's feelings of revenge were truly gone, when she convinced Rogue not to kill Mister Sinister, although Rogue wanted to avenge the deaths of four young mutants, whom Mister Sinister had killed. (Ultimate X-Men 46-49)
Storm has the ability to manipulate the weather over limited areas.
