As a child Erik Lehnsherr was was one of tens of thousands of Jews who were imprisoned in concentration camps during World War II, during this time his friends and family were butchered. He soon discovered that he was in fact different from normal people, he discovered he was gifted with the ability to magnetically manipulate any metal object he chose, he realised he was a mutant, he soon grew an intense hatred for all humans.

Twenty years ago he met and, in a moment of weakness, fell in love with a human woman, months later she gave birth to his twin children, whom he knew would grow to be mutants themselves, he took them and left abandoned her. Many years later he met a man named Charles Xavier who he realised was a mutant like himself, the two became close friends and spent hours every night discussing the future of mutant-kind. Magneto wanted to dominate the humans and rule with an iron-fist, while Charles wanted to peacefully co-exist with them. Erik offered Charles the chance to come with him on his journeys, Charles left his wife and child and went with Erik.

Their travels took them to the Savage Land where they set up a peaceful mutant utopia. Though Charles began to see his friend wanted more, he wanted to conquor. Xavier, fearing for his life, fled the Savage Land only to have Magneto skewer him on a metal spike crippling him and leaving him for dead. Magneto soon formed his "Brotherhood of Mutants" and placed his son, Quicksilver in charge as field leader, in the following years Magneto led the charge of anti-human terrorism, though little did he know Charles was setting up his own rival organization to bring Magneto down.

In the following months, Magneto soon discovered that Charles had survived and that he was gathering his own mutants, he hired Wolverine, on of the most dangerous men on Earth to kill infiltrate the X-Men and kill him, Wolverine left for the U.S.. Magneto, wanting his joining to seem genuine, contacted Wolverines old enemy, John Wraith and tipped him off to Wolverines location. Wraith ambushed and captured Wolverine at the airport, though later he was resued by the X-Men, Magneto's plan working perfectly.

Magneto soon put his plan into high gear by sending his Brotherhood to kidnapped the U.S. President's daughter. She was eventually freed by the X-Men. Though one of the X-Men, Beast, was mortally wounded. Magneto, in a display of friendship and kindness, aided the X-Men in saving Beasts life. When the X-Man Cyclops defected to his Brotherhood, Magneto took him under his wing and treated him like a son, he even asked Scott to call him "father" to make Quicksilver jealous. The Savage Land was then besieged by the giant mutant-hunting Sentinels, killing dozens of mutant citizens. Magneto stopped the attack by manipulating the Sentinels programming to attack humans instead of mutants, and made his way to Washington D.C. to make them pay. If not for a warning from the X-Man Cyclops, D.C. would have been unprepared for the attack.

The insane Magneto laid waste to Washington D.C., then attacked the White House, forcing the President out onto the lawn naked and made him lick his boots clean on National TV, then planned on killing him. Xavier, a defected Wolverine and Quicksilver stepped in and stopped him, apparently killing him.

Months later it was revealed that Magneto was not in fact dead, he was, all this time, being mind-controlled by Professor Xavier to think he was someone else, thus no longer posing a threat.

Magneto has the mutant ability to control magnetism and other related electromagnetic forces.

if his REAL name is Magnus, why do is he referred to as Erik so often in the bio?
