Little is known of Nick Fury's past, what we do know is that he served in the Gulf War and was escorting Weapon X (Wolverine), whilst in an adamantium cage, across Kuwait. Fury and his men were ambushed by Iraqi soldiers who accidentally blasted Weapon X's cage lose, once free he made short work of the Iraqi's. A wounded Fury then expected Weapon X to finish him off, instead he carried him back to base where he recieved medical treatment.

Eleven years had passed and Fury had become a Colonel in the international peace keeping organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate).

On one of his many missions, Fury was sent to Dehli, India to stop an illegal genetics operation which had violated the superhuman test-ban treaty, during which time he was captured. Days later Fury was freed by the X-Men while acting under orders from Weapon X. During his time as a prisoner in India, John Wraith, the psychotic leader of Weapon X, a division of S.H.I.E.L.D., had the Director assassinated and took his place.

Days later Fury was contacted by Wolverine who needed help to free his teammates and called in a favor, Fury gave Wolverine a small tracking device. Once Wolverine had allowed himself to be captured by Weapon X, Fury was able to pin-point his exact location and mobilized S.H.I.E.L.D.. The X-Men were freed by the Brotherhood and brought down Weapon X and captured Wraith, who was then taken into custody by the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. General Nick Fury.

With the growing number of paranormal threats in the U.S. the President gave Fury the go-ahead to create a team of superheroes to defend American soil. His first step was to restart the Super Soldier Program and placed Hank Pym and Bruce Banner in charge. The new team became known as the Ultimates.

General Nick Fury has no superhuman powers though he has been trained in many different types of fighting skills. He wears a pair of "Para-Shoes" which allow him to glide through the air, he carries on him a pair of sun-glasses which can emit a beam of light capable of frying anything within a 10 foot radius, he also wears a waistcoat which can grant him invisibility and intangibility which can last only about 9 seconds.
