Born in Russia, the young Peter Rasputin became involved with the Russian Mafia, working in America, he ran routine deliveries and such until an incident involving the Russian Mafia and a rival gang. He was forced to come out as a mutant, armouring-up protecting himself from most of the gunfire. At the end of this conflict he met the X-Man Marvel Girl who offered him a place at Xavier's School and with the X-Men.
Peter and the X-Men had one more recruit to pick up, Bobby Drake. The X-Men were ambushed by a group of Sentinels whom they managed to defeat and rescue Bobby. He accompanied the X-Men on they're first official mission to Croatia to free the Presidents kidnapped daughter from the Brotherhood, during this battle Beast was mortally wounded by a Croatian soldier.
Peter was present at Washington D.C. when Magneto and his Sentinels laid waste to the city, he and the X-Men with the help of Quicksilver, defeated him. Weeks later, Peter and the X-Men were captured by the Weapon X Program and forced to serve <img src="http://comixfan.com/xfan/images/headshots/ultimate/colossuswx.jpg" align=right alt="Colossus">them due to the Neural Implants in their heads. During his time there the Weapon X Program boosted Peter's strength and durability. He accompanied his fellow Weapon X members on a few missions including the rescue of Nick Fury. Peter and the X-Men were eventually freed by their enemies the Brotherhood of Mutants, he attempted to bring down the Weapon X compound by pushing over the two main pillars but was stopped by Marvel Girl who stated enough people had died.
After returning to the Mansion he developed a bond with fellow X-Man, Wolverine. Soon after the X-Men travelled to London, Peter left the team because he was tired of Charles’ pacifist ideas and of being ignored and underappreciated. He returned to his family and tried to lead a normal life; he even got himself a job in a car factory. However, this was not to be, as he was forced to become Colossus once more. After he rescued a submarine full of sailors and became a national hero. Having enjoyed being in the spotlight, Colossus rejoined the X-Men.
He soon arrived in Germany to aid his teammates in defeating Proteus whom he killed by crushing him and the possessed Betsy Braddock with a car.
After the world found out about Magneto’s supposedly death and Charles’ involvement, Colossus went in hiding together with the other X-Men. But it did not take long before the Ultimates found out their safe-house. During their battle, Colossus defeated Iron Man and stood his own against Thor. But Colossus was defeated when Hawkeye shot one of his arrows, which had the power to nuke an area of fifteen to twenty feet. Thanks to Professor X, who got captured himself, the X-Men were able to flee. (Ultimate War 2-4)
Although the X-Men were on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D., they tried to redeem themselves by going on missions against the Brotherhood of Mutants. On one occasion, while Wolverine and Colossus teamed up and defeated a cell of the Brotherhood in Los Angeles, Colossus stated that he still believed in Wolverine, although there were rumors about Wolverine having killed Cyclops. Colossus even tried to confess a little secret of his to Wolverine in case Magneto would succeed in killing everyone, but Wolverine did not want to hear of it. Later on the X-Men found Magneto, but in the battle that followed, they were pinned down magnetically to the ground. It was only after Magneto started to torture Wolverine that Colossus found the will and strength to even withstand Magneto’s magnetic powers. While he knocked off Magneto’s helmet, Colossus told him that no one could lay a finger on Wolverine. In a joint effort the X-Men defeated Magneto. (Ultimate X-Men 28-32)
Peter possesses the ability to transform his flesh into an organic steel-like substance, granting him superhuman strength and a high degree of imperviousness to physical harm. While he is in his organic armor, Colossus does not need to breath.
