Hank McCoy was in the midst of a bar-fight when he first met Marvel Girl, Jean Grey, another mutant like himself. She brought him to live at the Xavier Institute where he joined the X-Men. He then accompanied his fellow X-Men to meet their newest recruit, Bobby Drake. They were ambushed by a small squadron of Sentinels. In the end they saved Bobby destroyed the Sentinels and returned to the Institute.

On his first field mission to Croatia to rescue the Presidents daughter from the Brotherhood, the X-Men were attacked by a group of local soldiers, Beast mortally wounded in the battle and would have died if not for Magneto. He was eventually taken back to the Mansion where he stayed in a coma for days. Upon awakening, he realised his hair had turned blue, a hint that he was further mutating.

Beast, still in crutches, was present at Washington D.C. when Magneto has an army of re-programmed Sentinels attacked. The still injured Beast stayed behind the lines and rescued by-standers from the Sentinels. When the battle was won and Magneto seemingly killed, he and his teammates returned to the Institute. <img src="http://comixfan.com/xfan/images/headshots/ultimate/beast.jpg" align=right alt="Beast">

Weeks later, during which time he grew close to fellow teammate Storm, the mansion was beseiged by Wraith and the Weapon X Program. Beast and the X-Men were captured and forced to serve them no thanks to Neural Implants implanted into their skulls. The Program began performing experiments on Hank, mutating him further into a blue furred Beast. He carried out many missions for the Program, the most notable would be the rescue of Nick Fury, he and his fellow X-Men were eventually freed by their adversaries, the Brotherhood of Mutants and the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury.

After the Weapon X events Beast would never be the same again, having to cope with his new look he grew self-consious. Beast then travelled with his fellow X-Men to London, to promote Xavier's best-selling book.

When Xavier's son, Proteus, escaped from his medical lab in Muir Isle the X-Men aided in finding him, during that time Beast met Colonel Betsy Braddock a member of the S.T.R.I.K.E.'s Psi-Division, who was a great admirer of his work. They found Proteus who had possessed the X-Man Wolverine's body and attacked Xavier, with Xavier out of action, Beast assumed a temporary role as leader and attacked Proteus. Curious to see the extent of Wolverine's healing factor he threw himself into oncoming traffic and escaped.

Beast and the X-Men soon tracked him to Germany who, whilst in Colonel Braddocks body, attacked the X-Men. Proteus was later killed by Colossus.

Hank was born with unusally larged sized hands and feet, he soon developed superhuman strength and agility. Since his further mutations the full extent of his powers is not known.

I am looking forward to the day they give Henry a haircut. That ponytail has got to go the way of the dodo.

Am I the only one who thinks he looks cooler with the ponytail?

Oh no, I agree!! He looks awesome with the ponytail! Much better than that Cowardly Lion look he's got going on in New X-Men!

UPDATE:
Hank’s insecurity regarding his relationship increased when a new teammate, the handsome Angel, was clearly attracted to Storm. Hank left the team, only to be invited into Emma Frost’s team of media-friendly mutants chosen by the president. When this team was introduced to the public, Sentinels attacked. Hank bravely tried to save lives and perished in the attempt, as he was hit by falling debris. His death proved traumatic for his former teammates, especially Storm.
