View Full Version : X-FORCE/X-STATICS RUMOUR GOES GIANT-SIZE

<a href="http://x-mencomics.com/xfan/images/previews/giantsize_xstatics.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://x-mencomics.com/xfan/images/previews/giantsize_xstatics-t.jpg" align=left alt="Giant-Size X-Statics teaser image #1"></a>The recent spate of rumours regarding Marvel Comics apparently looking to relaunch three of their titles - Cable, Deadpool, and X-Force - with new names and new #1 issues was given a booster shot in the arm this week with the unveiling of a teaser image for Giant-Size X-Statics. (See "X-CHANGES FOR CABLE, DEADPOOL, & X-FORCE? (http://x-mencomics.com/xfan/forums//showthread.php?s=&threadid=77)" for more details.)

<a href="http://x-mencomics.com/xfan/images/previews/giantsize_xstatics2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://x-mencomics.com/xfan/images/previews/giantsize_xstatics2t.jpg" align=right alt="Giant-Size X-Statics teaser image #2"></a>The image, illustrated by X-Force artist Mike Allred and obviously intended as a homage to Dave Cockrum's cover to Giant-Size X-Men #1, was posted to Marvel's online Digital Access Library which is utilized by webmasters who sign up with Marvel's Authorized Fan Site Program (http://www.marvel.com/community/fansites/fansites.htm). The original image (above) was later taken down from the library and replaced with a second image (right).

X-Statics is the rumoured name that X-Force would be relaunched under. When asked by X-Fan about the rumours earlier this week, Allred was very evasive.

"HA HA HA. No," Allred said. "I CAN tell you that great things are-a-comin'. I love the way Joe, Bill, Axel & Co. think."

Well I don't know one of them looks like vivsector and in the new X-Force there doesn't seem to be a DOOP! I would be very upset! But they seem to know what they are doing.

I have seen the cover with the people not blacked out and can tell you that indeed one member is missing, apparently the one who dies in the next arc, but I won't spoil which one.

To X-Fan :

check this announcement at the X-Universe board :

http://www.comicboards.com/xmb/view.php?trd=020207225508

They too had the image online but were asked by Marvel to put it down, as it was available by accident and they don't want to see it published right now.

from the looks of things i think the idea behind the whole title change is so the "old X-force" wouldn't have anything to do with it .so that the book can come into a era all it's own ...so the slim chance of the "old X-force" showing up it might be in one of the core books our in a speical reunion mini ......oh well

I have a feeling that this is going to be a promotional boost for the individual titles, but somehow I don't think they are permanantly going to rename them. Maybe temporarely. It looks like it could be interesting, and Miligan, Allred, and Alonso haven't let me down so far on the new X-Force, so I'm gonna wait to see where this goes, probably towards a good story.

Think about it, the old team attacked them over rightful use of the X-Force name a few issues back. What would be funny if the old team sued them over the name so they had to change thier name. Either that, or the name change might result in them ending thier employment with the billionaire guy, so they had to change thier name.

Just an idea.

So this image is supossed to be a teaser of sorts?, This is what the new X-Force should have been from the very beginning: a book on his own. Maybe Quesada made the move of presenting the new team and stories in a well-known book to reach audiences, just to do this we´re hearing about now: Re-release them into their own book.

My only question, and I think everyone´s for that matter, is: what will happen to the X-Force book and name? Will they have the guts to reintroduce the old team with new talent (maybe Chuck dixon or Fabian niziena writing and Mike deodato Jr. or Mike Weringo penciling ;) , They should, Quesada has shown his ability to gather great talent and to revamp books that have been downhill, so why not do this with the old X-Force?
Whatchathink?:?

I don't know. I like em just fine as X-Force, but I'll keep reading them as X-Statics. A quality book is a quality book.

Oh, and saw the filled in cover too. Yeah...while the person that is missing wasn't my first choice for death...at least it isn't one of the ones I didn't want. Thank goodness.

There was one other strange thing on the cover involving the skin color of one of the members. Makes me wonder whats gonna happen with that...

They're just pulling our legs. This is the book that pokes fun at themselves (and every other X-book for that matter), so I can't take them seriously.

Good art though :)

You know what? This actually makes a lot of sense. There was a rumor going around that X Force was going to become X Statics, right? Well, that rumor is only have true. X Force is becoming X Statics, but not the current one.

The "old" X Force, it looks like, is going to be X Statics. Wouldn't that be interesting? After all, we can't keep calling them the "old" X Force and the "new" X Force. Something had to be done about that, and it looks like we have the solution. This is the only smart thing Allred has done since taking over on X Force.

This is going to be great! The "old" X Force returns under a new name - X Statics!

The funny thing is that the black out cover doesn´t match the full one.

Of the six characters blacked out, only three are exacts matches.

The other three doesn´t.

May be nothing, may be not.

Isn't that the image Marvel asked taken OFF the internet? They didn't want to see it published and had Comicboards' X-Universe remove it from their site. I don't think you should have X-Fan borrowing trouble from Marvel.

What are you talking about? That was on the UPDATED article on www.comicon.com/newsarama they had the blacked out image, but then they updated it with this image.

So, I don't think there is any trouble about this.

I have to say that I totally disagree with you about Allred's work and this piece as well.

Allred has a great pop art sense of design, and this piece shows this in the coloring. If you look at that pic, the characters in the background have been colored in the old "Dot matrix" style of coloring, used in the printing processes from a couple of decades ago where the charcters busting out have them colored in a more modern method of coloring.

I like his art because it is solid without being overly flashy. His style is the perfect example of Style with substance.

Of course though, I never could get into the original X-Force. They seemed to me as a byproduct of Liefeld and a leftover from the "paramilitary" style of superhero comics that were popular in the early 90's.

But of course this is all just my opinion.

Check out the third response on this thread.

"They too had the image online but were asked by Marvel to put it down, as it was available by accident and they don't want to see it published right now. "

That was posted at 8:00 EST tonight, not 3 1/2 hours ago. Is this a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, or what?

Disagree all you want to, but I am still going to hate Allred for what he did for X Force. I noticed the pic, by the way. I am not stupid. I caught the whole dot matrix style, and that was one of the first things I noticed. I took art from 7th Grade up until 12th.

I think I know a thing or two about the subject, seeing as how I am a first place winner at the local art show. Let's just say Allred's using of the dot matrix didn't help improve my opinion of X Force. I still think it sucks.

Which is something I disagree with. Allred tries to channel the feel of Kirby/EIsner/Steranko's work while keeping his own personal feel.

And I have some knowledge in art/design. I am currently in art school, majoring in graphic design.

I am just tired of all overly flashy art out there that has no solid skills

X-Force is great. I like the new X-Force better than the old one. I never got into and and after the first issue of the new X-force I was hooked. The drawing is fresh. If you want same old same old, read any other book but X-Force. Anyway, I really hope it is the Anarcist who dies. I never really liked him so: See ya wouldnt wanna be ya ;)

How could you say that X Force is great? The art is crappy, plain and simple. The term "B rated" comes to mind when I think of X Force. The words "toilet paper" is what I think of when I even hear the name of the book. Aside from the terrible artwork, there is also the inconsistent format.

More than one character dying each and every issue? I mean, come on! That is rediculous. At this rate, there isn't going to be a team left when Allred is done. Somebody please bring back the old X Force, because this one is nothing but a cheap substitute.

Thanks a lot for the info, man really thanks for ruining the suspense of X-Force.

I got to keep myself off these boards. Someone please erase his comment and mine, and everyone else who saw the cover please keep your mouth shut. X-Force is a lot of peoples favorite book and there's no sense going around ruining its surprise for everyone.

I like the X-fan boards because they're usually closely monitered so this kind of thing doesn't happen.

Well I haven't heard a word about this from Marvel. I was sent both images by a webmaster who got them from the DAM Library, and I'll be posting the second one shortly. I've just been caught up this week with finding a new home for the site and am currently in the process of transferring files across.

Okay, this is the last time I'm going to tell you this - stop trying to pass off your own personal opinions as if its the general consensus, or attempting to sway people to your line of thinking by bashing titles and creators. You can only speak for yourself, not for anyone else.

If I see one more thread like this from you, I'll have to remove your disruptive influence from the board.

X-statics, Soldier-X, Weapon-X, Can anyone remember the last time Joey or Jemas did something good for those other marvel universe titles?

Do you remember "Slimming down" the amount of X-related projects?

All that rubbing elbows with the likes of Bendis and Smith has made Joey a real sell out.

I'm sorry for those folks who really like all the X stuff. I really am. But i have this saying. A man is only as good as his word. Well guess what Joey you just cashed that check.

I'm telling you people i've been in this game for a long time now. First it's all ooh! and aah! Then there's screaming and running.

I give up i'm stopping now. I was getting New X-Men i was getting X-force i was getting Wolverine.

This is how it's going to happen this how it is happening. Wolverine starts makeing a few apperances. They start doing a ton load of mini-series. Mind you all around the X portion of the universe. Then the other titles suffer. Next thing you know Wolverine and anybody else with an X shows up.

After it's all said and done we're looking at the early 90's all over again.

This is going to get bad. I mean really bad.

The X-Men are so far removed for the Marvel universe anymore they should have their own imprint.

Hell some of you may even buy it.

I'm going to say what you'll never here anyone else in comics say. I'm jealous.

I'm jealous because with all the attention that these X books get it's takeing away from my favorite titles.

Not too long from now i'll be looking at the Hulk being cancelled once again. I'll see another reboot to some of my favorite titles.

You know why Marvel is doing this? Because they know that each and everyone of you hard core X-Fans will eat it up. They know they can get away with it. That scares me.

It is my hope that the majority of you here will go out to your favorite comic book store. Drop 3.95 and get another hero some one like Captain America, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Avengers, Spider-Man, Hulk, and the Fantastic Four.

Give something new a try read with an open mind. Embrace something different. I know now that the longer Joey stays as EIC and as long as Jemas is shooting off at the mouth. Things will only get worse.

That day is fast approaching. :(

As long as Milligan, Allred, and Alonso are still in charge and working their magic, I'll continue to read X-Force no matter what it's called. A rose by any other name, right?

Certainly X-Force isn't for everybody... the art is retro (which I like, but might bug some people), and the storyline is much deeper than your average comic book. But for those of us in the target market, it's one of the best bangs for our buck out there.

I do ask X-Fan or a mod to remove that spoiler naming the missing character that I saw earlier in this thread... that kinda sucked.

Long Live X-Force / X-Statics / X-Whatever!

However, if you come online with an intelligent, well thought out commentary with facts to back you up, then you're much more likely to be taken seriously and to have people engage you in mature, intelligent discussion.

I think the guy is just asking for a little support. Albeit in a rather rude and unintelligent manner. But it is my firm belief that the majority of X readers aren't over the age of 21. So some room for rudeness is expected.

Not on my board, sorry. I don't tolerate rudeness and ignorance, and neither do the majority of the board's other posters, I'd wager.

True, and there's nothing stopping people from going elsewhere and posting. But if they want mature, intelligent, thoughtful discussion, then the X-Fan Forums are the place to be, and will be so long as I'm running the show.

Well first off, I'll explain why X-Force is a good book. Very good in fact. One of the best from Marvel in fact or otherwise I wouldn't have a subscription to it (I'm not saying the books I have a subscription to are the best, but I do know a good book). By having characters die every issue, it helps to develop the mainstay characters like Orphan for example. It has excellent controversy and suspense. It keeps you anticipating the next issue and right when you don't expect it the plot twists in a way you never thought. I'm predicting what's going to happen next and I'm completely wrong. Now either X-Force is unpredictable or I'm just d@mn stupid.
:hellno:  :#
Second, Hulkboy is backing up xtremexman. Hulkboy, I am a X-Fan and at the same time, a what you call "Marvel fan". I collect Uncanny and New along with X-Force. I use to collect FF but now since Loeb and Pacheco left I quit. Although, I will wait til the big 9 cent issue to premiere the new talent. I have bought many other numerous non-x titles but I just don't like the talent on those as much. Again, from the news and big fan and critic acclaim, I'm looking forward to some new work in the non-x titles area.

Ok, let me get something straight. I am not trying to influence anybody's opinion of the book whatsoever. I was merely stating my own opinion, that's all. I didn't realize it was becoming such a problem to speak my own mind about things. I wasn't trying to tell other people what to think.

That was never my intention. If you want me to stop, then ok. Fine. I will. You win, Eric.

I give up. I surrender. You happy now? Ok, good. Now that that's out of the way, I can move on to my next statement.

I don't totally hate X Force. The characters are good, the format is great, but I find the art somewhat lacking. If you ask me who my favorite X Forcer is, I would have to say The Orphan. Why? Because I can identify with him.

How? Because I don't have that handsome a face either. Sometimes I just want to hide it in order to avoid being seen. Not only that, but I have studied various forms of martial arts as well. I had to so I could learn how to defend myself.

I was always being picked on when I was little, and it was either that or just let the bullying continue. As far as my least favorite X Forcer is concerned, I have no idea who that could be. At first I really hated Doop, but I have to admit the little spud is kind of growing on me. Right now, I would have to say that I dislike The Anarchist more than any other X Forcer. I don't know why exactly, but when I figure that out I will be sure and let you know.

Who says it's false? Sure, Mike Allred has given his 2 cents about the images, but he hasn't denied that there's some change in the works for X-Force and the images were still uploaded by Marvel to their Digital Access library so there's still some things not clear about this. Therefore, it's not false at all.

There is really no need to close this topic. As long as everyone is talking about the subject at hand and not straying too far from the line, then everything is going to be ok.
