Wolverine's past is shrouded in mystery. He is known as the most dangerous mutant on Earth. He was at some point...eleven years ago...captured by the Weapon X Program and trained as an assassin. During a mission in the Gulf War Wolverine, Weapon X at the time, was being transported in his adamantium cage, Nick Fury was assigned to make sure he didn't escape, when they were ambushed by a platoon of Iraqi soldiers. A blast from a bazooka knocked the feral Weapon X's cage open, freeing him. After making short work of the Iraqi's he noticed a wounded Nick Fury lying near the wreckage, picking Fury up over his soldiers he began the long journey back to base.

Soon after returning, Wraith, Head of the Weapon X Program, ordered Weapon X shot...he was then placed back into his adamantium cage. Soon thereafter, Wolverine managed to escape. After spending quite some as a freelance assassin he was hired by Magneto to terminate his adversary, Charles Xavier. Wolverine accepted, though on his way to the Xavier Institute he was attacked and re-captured by the Weapon X Program, he managed to escape with the aid of the X-Men. It was later revealed that Magneto was the one to tip Weapon X off to Wolverine's location as to make his joining Xavier seem more genuine.

After being welcomed into the X-Men and into Xavier's home, he began to have a relationship with fellow X-Man, Jean Grey. During Magneto's attack on Washington D.C., Wolverine turned on Magneto and quite literally stabbed him in the back, soon after Magneto was defeated and Logan seperated with Jean and left the X-Men temporarily.

During this time, Weapon X attacked the Xavier Institute capturing the X-Men and Xavier who were then forcefully added to the ranks of Weapon X. Logan then sought out the aid of Nick Fury and the Brotherhood of Mutants to help free his comrades. Logan allowed himself to be brought in to Weapon X, but secretly was hiding a tracking device in his lower intestine. The X-Men and the prisoners were then freed by the Brotherhood, and with their combined efforts they brought an end to Weapon X, while elsewhere Wolverine fought his old enemy, Sabretooth. The two fought until Wolverine tackled Sabretooth off the edge of a cliff, knocking him uncouncious and apparently ending his life.

During the time Wolverine and the X-Men travelled Europe, he forged a bond with fellow X-Man, Peter Rasputin or Colossus. The two would accompany eachother night after night aiding people who needed help. The X-Men were later called to Muir Isle to help find Charles Xavier's insane son, Proteus, who had recently escaped. After locating David, Wolverine was possessed by him and much to the X-Men's horror, threw himself into oncoming traffic to see the extent of Logan's healing factor.

Wolverine and his teammates tracked Proteus to Germany who attacked them whilst in possession of Betsy Braddocks body. Proteus was killed by Colossus.

Wolverine has hyper-keen senses, his: sight, smell and hearing are ten times that of a normal human. He also has a set of three retractable adamantium bone claws, an advanced healing factor and an adamantium skeleton.

This is an alternate reality.

But alternate since when ? If the alteration between the two realities occured at the beginning of the 20th century (as I uinderstood reading Captain Amarica origins in Ultimates). Origins is still valid.

I believe I read that Joe Q. said Logan's Origin carries over to 616, Ultimates and the movies.

You should add X-Men Unlimited #37 since he was in a few scenes in that issue.

I wouldn't want that to be true, I'd like to see a different origin for him. Maybe an Ultimate Origin mini-series. That'd be cool.

The Ultimate Line is in itself it's own universe, past, present, and future. I'm pretty sure Wolverine got his claws in the Weapon X program in Ultimate instead of being born with them in 616, since in Ultimate, Sabretooth was able to get claws just like his (except 4 on each hand!).

It was Ultimate Wolverine, if you have the issue I'd suggest keeping an eye out for him. I'm positive he was in it (that was the only reason I picked up the issue, to keep my Ultimate collection complete!)

i didnt get why cap knew him as Corporal Howlett. I was under the impression that after the events of Origin no one would have known Logan's real name was Howlett, including himslef, so why would he have enlisted under the name James Howlett?? :?

I figured Ultimate has to follow the basic story of Origin, but not completely. Like, in Ultimate they could have him keep the name Howlett longer instead of dropping it for Logan earlier on.

Also, Millar has stated that he doesn't believe that Ultimate Wolverine has bone-claws, that they were all-adamantium given to him by Weapon X (like Ultimate Sabretooth).

wolvie without bone claws :? :O  i don't like that idea, i think it'd be better to keep it like the main marvel wolverine, have bone claws, get the adamantium put in later, just through a differeent way or, to have him born with an adamantium skeleton.

Well this gives a reason for why Sabertooth had claws as well (but really, if the are a process through adamantium why does Sabertooth have a broken one? And why does he have more than Wolverine? Oh well, questions for another time I guess)

i have no idea why he has a broken one, but my guess as to why he has more than ultimate wolvie, is his way of showing that he thinks he is superior than wolvie is, and probably a way he figures will help him take wolvie out easier, just my guess anyway.

Though if you think of it, for his first 20 years of existance, Wolverine only had Adamantium claws.

its not that i don't like the adamantium claws, i think their better than the bone claws, its just the fact that it leaves wolvie pretty useless if they ever run the fatal attractions story line that they ran in the main marvel universe, because if he looses his claws in that one, he'll have nothing but his healing factor, and senses.

In the 616 universe Wolverine met up with Captain America seemingly during WWII (I can't remember which issue of UXM it was,) and never used his bone claws at all. It was implied he had not had the adamantium grafted to his bones yet. So just because he never used them while enlisted with the Canadian army in this universe doesn't mean the bone claws weren't there.
