Apart from being the mother of Nightcrawler, and foster mother of Rogue, she is also a member of the X- Men. She, like the other X-Men, has returned from an offworld adventure, and had helped Havok and his cause. Mystique and the rest of the X-Men were involved in the final defeat of the Goblin Queen, but was apparently killed by the newly reinstated S.H.I.E.L.D..
Instead she and the other X-Men were saved by their ally, Apocalypse, and taken to his Antarctic base. Among with some of the other X-Men Mystique was killed by Dracula.
Mystique is a mutant metamorph. She can psionically shift the atoms and molecules of her body and of whatever clothing she is wearing so as to change her and its appearance. As a result she can cause herself to look and sound like an exact duplicate of any human, humanoid, or semi-humanoid being of either sex, wearing virtually any kind of clothing.
