Charles' telepathic powers began emerging when he was still a boy, and as he grew older he learned to control them. Later on in life Charles came up with the idea of founding a school for mutants, where they could learn how to better control and use their powers.
Over the following months Xavier assembled his original team of "X-Men": Havok, Ice-Man, Angel, Beast, and Ariel.
In recent years Xavier became ill and too weak to lead the X-Men, after a battle with the Shadow King, so the leadership of the X-Men was taken up by his old friend Magneto. This decision caused a few of the X-Men to depart, and form another group of mutants dedicated to the Professor's original dream, called X-Factor.
Xavier supposedly died, but has recently returned and been reunited with some of his former students in New York City after a fight with the Horsemen of Apocalypse. Xavier then was thought to have been messing around with Havok's mind, but was stopped by the powerful being known as Apocalypse. It has been revealed that in his battle with the Shadow King, Xavier had absorbed the psionic entity increasing his own power, but also starting him down the path to madness.
While Xavier took his leave of absence from the X-Men he started to gather all known telepaths absorbed their powers. He also teamed up with Sinister to clone Jean Grey, in an attempt to create the ultimate mutant. Xavier is now working with Sinister to rule the world.
In an attempt to control all minds on the planet Xavier joined forces with Sinister but his plans were stopped by Havok and The Six, yet Xavier managed to escape.
Professor X possesses vast psionic powers, including telepathy; the ability to induce in others mental illusions, temporary mental or physical paralysis, and loss of specific memories.
