Warren Worthington's mutation...wings which grew from his shoulder blades...first appeared during puberty, and soon discovered that he could use those wings to fly. Calling himself "The Avenging Angel" he came to New York City, where for a short period he was a crime fighter. It was at this time that Professor Xavier contacted Warren, inviting him to join his team of X-Men. Shortening his name to "The Angel" Warren, along with Havok, Ariel, Beast and Ice-Man, lived a life of adventure while struggling to maintain peace.
When his parents died, Warren inherited their fortune, used some of it to finance his own super team, The Champions, and publicly revealed his identity and mutant ability. He then married his long-time girlfriend, Candy Southern.
With the formation of X-Factor, the Angel was reunited with his team mates, becoming one of the team's founding members.
Apocalypse abducted Warren altering his DNA and mutating him into Death. His feathered wings had been transformed into leather Bat-wings, his fingers ended in razor-like claws, and he found himself with the ability to breath fire.He had also become colder and more aggressive. The breaking point for Warren coincided with the death of Candy. He seemingly broke from Apocalypse's hold. With his wife dead, and his humanity gone, Warren adopted the name "The Fallen", and vanished.
When the Six began to form, the Fallen returned, much like Bloodstorm. Recently he has been returning to his old ways, involving himself in the murder of the Man-Spider clone and the Green Goblin, and the framing of the Brute. His mind was recently taken over by the Goblin Queen.
Since the defeat of the Goblin Queen the Fallen has returned to "normal". But it was revealed that he was working for the Goblin Queen only to further the plans of his master, Apocalypse and retaken the name Death.
The Fallen retains the ability of flight that he had as the Angel. In addition, he can breathe fire and possesses sharp claws at the end of his fingertips. His wings are capable of firing organic spines. As a result of Apocalypse's genetic tampering, he has enhanced strength.
