Rookie, Experienced, and Veteran. Denotes differnt points in the character's career, and possible team variations and power lovels and mixes. Denoted by the colored ring on the base:

(R) Rookie- Yellow Ring.
(E) Experienced- Blue Ring.
(V) Veteran- Red Ring.
(U) Unique- No Ring.

Okay a lot of these characters suck. Boomerrang, Firelord, Controller, Mr. Hyde, Blizzard, Wolfsbane, Wasp. And Quasar...gimmie a break..QUASAR!!? Where is Storm, Psylocke, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor, Iceman, Beast?!!? These are the popular characters but instead we get Controller and Quasar? Gimmie a break! I was looking forward to this, but now I think I'll pass. And with the movies being out, the least I would have expected is for them to include Storm, Green Goblin, and Mystique.

well everything doesnt exsist around the movie (which is good to know in my opinion) but even if there wasnt a movie it's still a bummer there's no Storm or Mystique OR Nightcrawler.... then again they need to give us something to look forward to in expansion packs. ^_^ OH and Uniques have Silver Rings (at least that's what it says in the rulebook.) I got some today, havent played yet but will be after The Amazing Race.

got mine today too... was anyone else under the impression that there was going to be different costumes for the different levels of each character? i thought i read that somewhere. anyway the figures are pretty cool, tho they seem a little flimsy. plus out of two starters and three boosters i got a ton of repeat figures, same level and everything. got two uniques tho, and got a rogue! yay!!!!! :D

Yeah, for some reason I thought I read somewhere that they were all going to have different costumes.

It is somewhat surprising how many obscure figures were released in the first wave of figures, and wasn't there suppose to be police officers and fire fighters?

Either way, I was not able to get this game today as not only did my comic store not have it, but even if they did get it, I wouldn't have had enought money to buy it.

To you, maybe, but remember that everyone has their favourites, and it's not good to go around dissing things just because you don't like them.

I happen to like Boomerang, Blizzard, Wolfsbane, and Quasar.

It's a wise marketing move not to include all the most popular characters in the initial release. If the first set had all the big name characters in it, why would anyone be interested in buying future expansions if all they had were second-string or less recognizable names?

I think WizKids have provided a great mix of big names and lesser-known characters. There's thousands of characters in the Marvel Universe, and only 50 figures in this set. You do the math.

Besides, there's an expansion already been announced for August, so likely we'll see another good mix of characters.

The unique versions tend to have different costumes. I do not know of any of the charracters with different costumes for differnt levels beyond unique, though they may be on different teams and such...

Bought mine today as well. Xavier and Cyclops were in my starter set. They are cool poses on all the figures. My only complaint is that my Electra came with one arm. A mold defect I imagine. Some of my friends bought some sets as well, Can't wait to take my Prof X squad up against my friends Magneto.

I really like the wizkids battle system, but I'm a little disappointed in the range of characters for this set as well. Not that they've included BAD choices or anything, but with the number of MAIN characters available to the Marvel Universe, you'd think they could have done a little better with their first outing.

Actually, I think that the r, e, v style shouldn't be used with Heroclix for the reason I mentioned above. OR, if you do want to do it that way, include the different costume stylings that each character has had over the years to make it more 'collectible'.

I'm not saying that it's bad or that I won't buy it, but that they are definitely out to get as much money from us as possible!

Oh well... gotta love it.

If WizKids put all the big names of the Marvel Universe in their first release, what would be the impetus to get people to buy the expansions?

I think it's great that they included a mix of big names and lesser-known heroes. Some people might find that they enjoy playing with one of the lesser-know heroes and be prompted to seek out comics with them in it!

Well said. It does make sense to leave out most of the big name characters so that people would continue to buy the product. I know I most likely wouldn't bother buying the expansion if the highlight would be The Neo or something like that (not to offend any one who likes the Neo, but I think you get my point).

I decided just to buy a booster pack to see if I liked it. I wanted them to convince my friends to play. I really like them, I just mad that one of my pieces won't spin. I took it off the disc and have been messing with it but nothin works. :sigh::help:

I agree with you, eric, but what I'M saying is that instead of three different levels of each character, perhaps they could have created more uniques or found a way to include more characters.

We have 4 members of the X-Men and there have been over 30. It's smart marketing, to be sure, but they are also looking at drawing it out over the next year or two at a cost to people like us of several hundred dollars.

I'm not saying that they have to be the most popular or anything, as some of the lesser known are also fun to have and play with, but when you're dealing with a company with primary characters numbering in the hundreds, you have a bit more room to play with who you include.

Stilll, what a GREAT game.

Pretty nice game, even though I'm fairly inexperiencd in this sort of thing. I actually like te character selections far, so I'm not complaining, heck, I even lucked out on my first box so far ( a booster, since I didn't have the cash for a starter) and got (veteran, apparently) Wolfsbane, one of the figures I wanted! Question though, why does my Rookie Sabretooth hav a blue base? I know the yellow ring signifies a rooke, but what does the blue base mean?

venombytes

blue base or any other coloured base means he has an arch enemy like wolverine

Just updated the list with the names of the Limited Edition figures!

The LE's can be distinguished by a gold ring around the top of the base, as well as by the figures being named with their real names, rather than their heroic ones. For example, the LE Hulk is named Bruce Banner, the LE Thug is named Knuckles, the LE Sabretooth is Victor Creed, etc.

The arch-enemies in Infinity Challenge are:

Daredevil & Bullseye (tan base)
Spider-Man & Hobgoblin (orange base)
Wolverine & Sabretooth (blue base)
Professor X & Magneto (green base)
Doctor Strange & Nightmare (purple base)

The hot rumour is that the first expansion in October will be the Fantastic Four, their friends and allies. I doubt they'd keep the FF and Doom out of this game for long!

I really hope that the FF are included in the first expansion. They are a major part of the Marvel Universe and should really be included in the game as soon as possible.

They're usually give-aways at conventions or special WizKids events. There's a possibility that they may be giveaways at the upcoming HeroClix Marquee Tournament Weekend (Friday May 31 - Sunday June 2).

Seeing as most of the folks at WizKids are big comic book fans themselves, I daresay it won't be long before the FF grace our gaming tables! :)
