<a href="http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/showthread.php?t=45947">Story continues from Ultimate X-Men / Ultimate Fantastic Four Annual #1</a>
On their way to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, the Thing makes another attempt to start a conversation with Firestar by telling her that she can turn on her powers in the Fantastic Car. The only thing that Firestar is interested in, is if the Thing has ever flown the Fantastic Car. Although the Thing confesses that it is his first time, he is determined to get them there safely because his mind is set on bringing Reed back from the future. Firestar genuinely appreciates that the Thing is such a good friend to Reed.
Once the Thing parks the Fantastic Car besides the Helicarrier, future Shadowcat shows Wolverine where he needs to cut a hole to enter the Helicarrier. The four of them do not encounter any resistance in their search of the Pym Particles, which they need to get to the future. Instead of finding the Particles, Wolverine traces Hank Pym himself back to his room. After they easily take out the guards in front of Hank's room, the Thing knocks down Hank Pym's bedroom door.
Later in the Baxter Building, Susan is able to restore Reed's time platform with the help of the Pym Particles. When the future X-Men are ready to get back to their time, the young versions of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four are not planning on taking them with them because the future X-Men tried to kill Reed before. Although they acted very violently before, future Shadowcat wants to talk about things this time. She informs the rest that both Reed and Susan are not as innocent as they think that they are. At the same time the Wolverine robot head has come up with a new plan, now that they know that they can not kill Reed. He hopes to use Reed and Susan to undo their future by freeing the future superhumans from a prison in the N-Zone. But things are a bit more complicated then that. In the future the X-Men are rebels who fight a real despot. Unfortunately Susan Richards is the despot.
Twenty years into the future in the Baxter Building, Reed does not know what to say when he sees the future Fantastic Four. One of the first things that Reed notices about them is that Johnny is not one of them. Susan and Namor inform him that Johnny is dead. Reed is not happy to see Namor with them and becomes a bit hostile towards him. When the guy in the Iron Man-like robot suit tries to calm young Reed down, Reed recognizes the voice. A moment later Ben Grimm shows his human face behind the mask. Reed is relieved to know that his future self succeeded in reverting Ben back to his human form.
Back to business, Reed wants to know why the future X-Men tried to kill him. Susan explains that the X-Men are terrorists, who blame Susan and Reed for what happened twenty years ago. To have a decent chance against them, Susan asks Reed's help. She wants him to do the same to the rest of the mutants as what his future self did for Ben Grimm.
In the present, future and present X-Men and Fantastic Four have made amence and have made two groups. The first team goes to the future Baxter Building to get the young Reed. Once inside the Baxter Building they come eye to eye with a statue in honor of the Human Torch. Lead by Phoenix, the second team goes to the N-Zone to free the future superhumans. Phoenix shows Susan a layout of the prison that her future self designed. Because the prison consists of a pyramid with only three sides, Susan decides to attack one side full-on, although she is not certain that her plan will work. Wolverine tries to find a way to deal with the Sentinels. His robotic counterpart informs him that their strength lies in their spines. Before they can finish talking strategies, Nihil and his men approach.
Thanks to Ben's voice, the first team gets access to the deeper parts of the Baxter Building. On their way in, Ben tries to make conversation with Firestar again. A moment later they almost stumble upon future Ben, Namor and Firestar. Because Shadowcat is convinced that one of those three will lead them to Reed, she decides to send Firestar and the Thing after their future selves, while she, Iceman and the Human Torch go after Namor.
Elsewhere, the older Susan shows young Reed 'The Promise', the device which gave Ben his human form back. After future Reed used the device once on Ben, he disappeared. When Reed brings up Namor in a jealous way, Susan quickly informs him that she thinks of Reed every day. While she lays her head against Reed, she asks him if he can make it work. Reed states that he can do anything for her.
In the N-Zone, young Susan is confused when she sees Nihil, because she thought that they had killed him a long time ago. Nihil tells her that things are not all what they seem to be. Nihil also knows that he is talking to the Sue from before Johnny was killed. When Susan asks how Nihil knows so much of her, the older Reed takes off his helmet.
In the Baxter Building Firestar and the Thing are still following their future selves. Future Ben Grimm tells his teammate that Sue is crazy but that he does not know how to talk to her about it. Before the Thing and Firestar realise it, they see how their future selves passionately kiss. At that point they decide to show themselves.
Meanwhile elsewhere in the building, the rest of the first team have followed Namor back to the holding cell of the older Iceman. Namor informs the latter that he has volunteered for a project. Before the three know it, the prison cell door is closed. Inside young Reed uses his machine to rob future Iceman of his powers. At this point Iceman, Shadowcat and the Human Torch break down the door. While Namor deals with the intruders, future Susan gets herself and Reed to safety. Namor stands his own until the two Ben Grimm's and Firestars join the fight.
Back in the N-Zone, Reed explains how he lost his powers when he cured Ben. After future Susan dumped her husband in the N-Zone, Reed became Nihil. Young Susan finally finds out that Phoenix is her future son Franklin. Reed also warns Susan that she and Reed will be defined by an event that is about to come. The event will be known as the Ultimatum.
Before they can talk some more, the Sentinel-guards have arrived. Although the X-Men and Fantastic Four fight them bravely, Wolverine realises that they will not be able to keep it up for much longer. The Wolverine-head has an idea on how to switch off the Sentinels. Elsewhere on the battlefield Jean gives Franklin some pointers on how to use his powers. Surprisingly Franklin has a good handle of his powers already and steals Jean's Phoenix power. Finally young Susan realises that it was not the now decapitated Wolverine robot, who brought the Sentinels back to the past but Phoenix.
Surprised by the betrayal of his son, future Reed learns that Franklin was working for his mother all this time. At that point future Susan and Namor show themselves. Susan is holding an unconscious young Reed in her arms. Although Susan tries to convince her future self that it does not have to be this way, future Susan is determined to end the rebellion and threatens to kill the young Reed.
Meanwhile Rogue, Wolverine and the Wolverine-head have snug away in search of something called the Master Mold. Somehow the Master Mold allows machines to act like animals. Wolverine has picked up Master Mold's scent. When they enter a room Wolverine informs the others that his future self is the Master Mold. After the Master Mold whispers something in Wolverine's ear, Wolverine slashes the spine of his future self.
Simultaneously to the death of the older Wolverine, all the Sentinels go offline. Future Susan orders her son to kill everyone. At that point Johnny asks his sister if he gets to die again. When Johnny saw his own statue, he was glad that it was him, who got killed. Johnny also realises that he ended up dead because of something that he did wrong. And now Susan has become this despot because of him. Using this opportunity young Reed, who has regained consciousness, quickly uses his machine to take away future Susan and Phoenix' powers.
With the defeat of the Sentinels and Susan, the prisoners in the N-Zone are finally freed. Although young Susan appologizes for everything, future Shadowcat thanks her for giving them a new fighting chance.
After the X-Men and Fantastic Four get back from the future, the X-Men return home. The Thing tries to ask Firestar on a date before she leaves, but she does not give him the chance to. When Johnny asks her and she accepts, the Thing's feelings are hurt.
Later at Xavier's School, Rogue adresses the Banshee-issue again. After Rogue promises not to use Banshee again, Logan tells her that they are square. Rogue also understands that Logan does not want anyone else carrying his D.N.A. by using Banshee.
In the Baxter Building Susan and Reed discuss what they have seen. Reed assures Susan that she will never become her future self. When Susan still has doubts, Reed tells her that she is his hero and that she will never become the despot as long as she has him. After Reed states that they are going to be together forever, Susan hopes that he is right. After Susan leaves the room, Reed is convinced that he is right and grabs a little red box with a ring in it.
