Gar Stazi is a male Duros and served as an Admiral for the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, more commonly known as the Galactic Alliance. From his command ship, the Indomitable, Gar fought the Empire during the Sith-Imperial War, though the Alliance and their Jedi allies would ultimately lose.
Prior to the war’s final battle, Stazi’s superior officer, Rear Admiral Piers Petan received word that Emperor Roan Fel will be taking part in a secret, lightly defended meeting over the planet Caamas. While Piers intended to use every remaining ship in the Alliance fleet to eliminate Emperor Fel, Stazi believed this to be a trap and opposed this plan. The Duros was overruled by both Petan and Bail Antilles and was ordered to join in the strike.
As Admiral Stazi predicted, Caamas was a trap and Piers Petan ended up surrendering to Grand Admiral Morlish Veed. Petan tried to have his fleet follow suit, but Stazi refused to yield and got as many ships as he could to retreat with him. Knowing that the Imperial Fleet had minefields set up along most of the escape routes, Stazi had what was left of the Alliance Fleet take an older but a possibly dangerous hyperspace route. Stazi’s gambit paid off, and he would lead the remains of his fleet to plague the Sith-controlled Empire for years.
Seven years after the Battle of Caamas, Gar Stazi went to the Wheel, a neutral space station, to meet with Mingo Bovark, an Imperial Captain loyal to the previous emperor, Roan Fel. At first, Gar wanted nothing to do with Fel, but reconsidered when Bovark told him that Roan had reclaimed Bastion. The Alliance Admiral became more open with Mingo and continued talks of consolidating his forces with Fel’s. These negotiations would be sabotaged by the Sith, who rigged Mingo’s shuttle to fire on Stazi’s shuttle. Believing that the talks were now a trick set up by Fel, Gar attacked Mingo. Stazi was stopped by Imperial Knight Antares Draco, and both sides left the Wheel soon after.
Weeks later, using stolen codes from Monia Gahan of Rogue Squadron, Admiral Stazi was going to attack the Imperial Shipyards orbiting Dac and steal the new Advanced Star Destroyer Imperious. Remembering Caamas, Gar knew that the Empire would have a trap waiting for him, but taking the Imperious would be a much needed victory for the Galactic Alliance. As Stazi had Alliance operatives infiltrate and commandeer the Imperious, he and his fleet arrived at Dac to secure their prize. As expected, the Empire had a trap set up, and was masterminded by Stazi’s old rival, Admiral Dru Valan. The Duros was prepared for this however and had a backup team recapture the Imperious and Monia to hack into the shipyards systems and control their defenses. Gar had his fleet hide behind the shipyards as they both fired on Valan’s armada. The admiral then had the Indomitable remain behind to cover the escape of his ships and the Imperious. Gar’s flagship took heavy damage throughout all this and half of its crew was dead. Knowing that Valan wanted him personally, Gar had the remainder of his crew evacuate the ship, as he would then ram it into the shipyards. Though Gar intended to sacrifice himself, his second-in-command Jaius Yorub and Rogue Squadron leader Jhoram Bey saw the admiral as a symbol for the Alliance and wanted him to live. Gar wouldn’t leave, so Jhoram decked the admiral and got him away from the Indomitable as Jaius crashed the vessel into the shipyards. After the successful capture of the Imperious, Stazi had Jhoram Bey become his new second-in-command.
Though taking the Imperious was a success, Stazi’s fears of the Sith’s retribution became justified, as he and his fleet witnessed a media broadcast of Darth Krayt ordering the extermination of the Mon Calamari race from the galaxy. As much as Stazi wanted to help the Mon Calamari, he knew it was currently impossible, with only a small fleet and the Imperious's weapons system non-operational at the time. Not long after, a shuttle carrying the Imperial Knight Sigel Dare and the recently captured Alliance officers she helped rescue approached Stazi’s new flagship. After being warned of the sabotage of his ship's weapons, and with some consideration, Admiral Stazi decided to reopen negotiations of a union between his forces and Roan Fel’s Empire. He then changed the name of his new Star Destroyer from the Imperious to the Alliance.
