Jariah Syn is a human male that served onboard the pirate vessel Crimson Axe. One of his crewmates was a Yuuzhan Vong who taught him how to use their organic weaponry. Jariah became an expert of these illegal tools, especially with their variety of bugs.

When he was seven years old, Jariah stowed away on a transport that his father and Rav were flying to Roon. He remained in the ship until he heard a fight going on outside. He left and found Rav and Zareb fighting a Cathar Jedi of the Rasi Tuum litter, with an Arkanian family caught in the middle. Jariah and Rav managed to get away but young Syn saw the Jedi slay his father before they left Roon. Rav told Jariah that he and Zareb were trying to protect the Arkanian family from Rasi Tuum, and that they saved the young girl they took with them. The boy believed the Feeorin that the Jedi are evil and like to kidnap children for their own purposes. Jariah developed an intense hatred for the Jedi from this experience and became paranoid of their mental capabilities.<img src="http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/images/headshots/dh/ygjarsyn.gif" align=right hspace=10 alt="Young Jariah Syn">

A few days after the Sith-Imperial War ended, the Crimson Axe was about to raid the ruined Jedi Temple on Ossus when they found a young boy named Cade floating in space. Rav took the boy to be a Jedi and was going to kill him. Jariah was present and noticed that Cade didn’t have a lightsaber with him, believing that he wasn’t a Jedi. He convinced Rav of this as well, and Jariah and Cade soon became friends. With Cade’s help, Jariah and the other pirates looted the Ossus temple. Some time later, Jariah and Cade went on to become bounty hunters and were joined by a third companion, the Zeltron female Deliah Blue.

Years later, Jariah, Cade and Blue captured Naxy Screeger for Rav, and the Jedi Hosk Trey’lis as a bonus. Jariah hoped that this would get them out of Rav’s debt, but Cade accepted some deathsticks from the Feeorin, thus keeping them indebted. Afterwards, the three bounty hunters escorted Princess Fel and Astraal Vao to Vendaxa, and plan to use the princess to turn both her and her father, Roan Fel, to the Sith for a price. Those plans were scrapped when they met two Jedi on Vendaxa, and were subsequently ambushed by Darth Talon. Cade used his Force powers to drive back the Sith, and Jariah found out that his best friend was really Cade Skywalker, a Jedi all along. Syn became increasingly hostile to Cade and even once tried to shoot him. When more Sith arrived, along with some Imperial Knights, another battle ensued. Jariah wanted to take the Mynock and abandon Cade, but Deliah threatened to kill him if he did. Not wanting to stay on Vendaxa, Syn tried to help Cade against Darth Nihl. Once Cade, the Jedi and the Imperial Knights got onboard the Mynock, Syn and Blue took them to Bastion. After the trio was rewarded by Roan Fel for Sia’s rescue, Cade left both Jariah and Deliah behind.

While Jariah lost his reward money in gambling, Deliah used hers to take the two of them back to see Rav. Meeting with the pirate again, Syn and Blue were betrayed to the Empire and the Sith. Both of them were tortured and interrogated about Cade until they met him again as another captive of the Sith. Upon their brief reunion, Darth Maladi infected Syn and Blue with Yuuzhan Vong spores. Cade healed them both and had them released, provided that he stayed. While Deliah wanted to rescue Cade, Jariah preferred to leave him behind. It wasn’t until meeting with Chak, Kee and Cade’s mother, Morrigan Corde that Jariah decided to help out. He even started have a small crush on Morrigan. In part of Corde’s plan to free Cade, Syn and Kee equipped some Yuuzhan Vong bugs with cameras and explosives before Morrigan released them into the Sith Temple. After weeks of waiting, Jariah and the others helped Cade get out of the temple and the friendship between Syn and Skywalker was renewed.

Jariah and Cade helped Chak and Kee get their ship back and then left for Iego, the home of Bantha Rawk and his family. There, Jariah flirted with Bantha’s adopted daughter Annah, under the watchful eye of her mother Droo. They later met Cade’s ex-girlfriend Azlyn Rae and traveled to the hidden Jedi Temple on Taivas. Soon after their arrival, Jariah met Azlyn’s former master Rasi Tuum, the Jedi who killed his father. Syn tracked the Cathar and, out of vengeance, tried to murder him once he was alone. Despite Syn’s efforts, Rasi Tuum was able to stop him, and had him explain his reasoning for this assault. Jariah reminded him of the time they were on Roon, and then he listened to Tuum’s point of view on the matter. From the Jedi Master, Syn learned that his father and Rav were raiding and killing the Arkanians until Tuum intervened. Jariah didn’t believe it initially, but deep down, he knew that Rasi Tuum was right, and that his father wasn’t really a good man as he had thought he was.

Following their stay on Taivas, Jariah and the rest of the Mynock’s crew were joined by Shado Vao, three Imperial Knights and later, Celeste Morne, in Cade’s mission to put an end to Darth Krayt.
