In case you guys missed the announcement, Supervillain Idol is going to begin soon. Quoting from the front page:

SUPERVILLAIN IDOL BEGINS MARCH 24th!

Last year, Comixfan revived Superhero Idol to much fanfare and fun to be had by all. And then the site nearly died a few months later, so now you get to download an enormous text file (http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/showthread.php?t=43774) if you want to read up on all that you missed. Still, given the number of people who cried out in horror that the archives of that beloved game were lost shows how much fun we all had back in May (and then on through pretty much the whole summer). So we're bringing it back again. Bigger, and more importantly badder than ever before.

That's right, Superheroics are for the naive and short-sighted. Supervillainy is where it’s really at. Coming this March, Supervillain Idol is coming to make every sick and evil fantasy you've ever had

The Game

Supervillain Idol is a game open to any Comixfan poster with 20 posts or more. All you need to do is select a character to play, any character who has ever appeared in a comic book. All characters, in any incarnation, are fair game... though that will be the only time you see the word "fair" associated with this contest.

Each round, participants will have a total of 48 hours to write a short story surrounding a topic, usually named directly following the conclusion of the previous round. Our fine, yet equally evil judges will then offer their comments, suggestions, and horrible biting criticism before sending an unlucky few up for vote. The ones with the least amount of votes are given their walking papers, and the remaining participants move on until only one remains to take all the infamy and plunder of Supervillain Idol as their own.

The Prizes

Through scheming, embezzlement, and a few outright bank robberies, I've managed to accumulate a much greater prize this time than the last. Crime truly does pay:

1st Place: $150.00 (USD) Gift Certificate to X-World Comics
2nd Place: $100.00 Gift Certificate to X-World Comics
3rd Place: $50.00 Gift Certificate to X-World Comics
Bonus Prize: $50 Gift Certificate to X-World Comics, to be given out to a random contestant. Anyone who makes it past the first round is eligible for this prize.

The prizes allow anyone, no matter their geographic location, to both participate in the game and take full advantage of the prizes in store. And if you're good enough to make it all the way to the top, you'll have a mountain of swag from one of the internet's best comic sources!

And this time around, even the staff are eligible to win up to the 2nd place. So join up, my minions!

The Judges

Kevin Jones: Kevin Jones won Superhero Idol 2007. In other words, he's better than you, and has the title to prove it. He'll look at your pitiful entries, mutter the word "cute", and then tear them apart word by word. You dare present such drivel to a creative mind of this caliber? Just be happy you walked away with your throat still intact. You don't ask Kevin to go easy on you. You look down at the ground and thank him for the privilege of setting his eyes upon your unworthy chicken scratch.

The Sword is Drawn: Another Superhero Idol 2007 veteran, you might think that his handle is a reference to his beloved Excalibur series. Well think again. His handle refers to the sound you hear as he prepares for his patented entry judging ritual. Does he tolerate your entry, or does his sharpened blade come down upon your offered limbs, ensuring that such a disgrace will never fall upon his eyes again? You might want to run your entry through spell checker a few dozen times and make sure you come to him with quality. You may never get the opportunity again.

Phil Filippopoulos: You know, Phil is too damn good for an avatar. That's the kind of confidence, and indeed arrogance that can only be found in a Supervillain Idol Judge. As the only judge who is a staff member this time around, Phil has already undergone the insidious and frightening Comixfan Staff Initiation Ritual (by the way, join (http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/showthread.php?t=44511)). As a result, he is hardened to any pleas for sympathy, and any excuses you have for a late or improperly formatted entry will result in nothing but laughter.

Of course, you might be under the impression that you can match the assembled evil introduced above. Who knows, you might be right. Join, and show us what makes a truly evil mastermind!

So there you have it. Character selection begins immediately, and the game itself will begin Monday, March 24th at Midnight, Eastern Standard Time. That gives you about four weeks to plan your crimes and determine the best evil-doer for the job. And in the case of those anonymous guest visitors who see this and want to join in, then that also gives you time to get those twenty posts you need if you want first dibs.

The Supervillain Idol thread can be found by following this link (http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/showthread.php?t=44195). It's also the link you need to follow if you wanna sign up! Character selection is already open, so get in there and claim your spot now! You can change your mind all the way up until the game starts, but if someone else gets your character first, you'll be fresh out of luck.

All questions, comments, and suggestions should be sent to Nick Costanzo at winged.outlaw@gmail.com (since PM boxes tend to fill up way too quickly). We here at the Comixfan Staff are very excited to play this game again, and the free entry and possibility at great prizes will only enhance the fun. We look forward to a great turn-out, so sign up as soon as you can!

Anyone who's interested, please hed on over to the Backstage Thread (http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/showthread.php?t=44195) and call your character before March 24th. We've kicked the prizes up to five times the cash value we were offering last time, with the possibility of a bonus prize that only requires you don't sleep through the first round. Surely we can all use an extra $50 for comics, right?

Looking forward to seeing who joins up!

Topic

My plot began years ago. The boy was born into a world of privilege, and yet was righteous and determined to make his world a better place. With his focus and financial backing, he would go far in the world. And yet, thanks to a phone number supplied by one of my associates, the boy was pulled into a dark underworld stained by perversion and corruption. The boy's successes had made him feel untouchable, free to engage in his own vices while destroying the livelihoods of those who did the same. He ascended far in the world, to the point where all of the fine state of New York was under his control.

And then, a simple banking discrepancy was anonymously leaked to the authorities. Before long, scandal erupted on a monumental scale. The formerly untouchable young man suddenly found himself exposed for the hypocrite that he was, and within days poor Elliot was forced to resign.

And its all according to plan...

If my shadow agents have done their job, they will have effectively manipulated the entirety of the state into demanding an entirely new election, eager to replace any semblance of the old regime with a new order. And now the stage is set to allow anyone presenting themselves as an agent of change to gain control over America's most vital state. And unlike the violent attempts at conquest that has ended in so much disaster in the past, this rise to power will be thoroughly legal. If any costumed do-gooder were to attempt to intervene, they would be the ones breaking the law.

In this round, my minions, descend upon this farce of an election, and assume control of New York with a campaign designed to crush your opponents. Make yourselves look like a savior even as you view the masses as so much meat. Make these fools love you, even as you lead them to destruction!!!!

Summary: In a fictional election to clean up Spitzer's mess, have your character campaign to become the new Governor of New York. You can focus on the campaign, describe your character's commercials, slam your opponents, or just describe your bloody and unforgettable inauguration. The topic is open to interpretation, feel free to approach as you see fit.

Round begins: Thursday, March 13, 12 AM
Round ends: Saturday, March 15, 12 AM
