After many years, Professor Charles Xavier and his stepbrother Cain Marko stand face to face again. The X-Men are still on the ground after Juggernauts attack, but are slowly getting up. Professor X orders his X-Men to stand aside fro now, hoping to stop the Juggernaut himself, with a powerfull mental blast directed at the enemy’s brain. Sadly, the Juggernaut’s helmet protects Cain from mental attacks. The X-Men stand ready though, and act immediately, getting Xavier out of harms way, and blasting a hole in the ground where the Juggernaut is thrown into.

That will only hold of the powerfull enemy for so long. Professor Xavier uses Cerebro to search the city for help and finds Johnny Storm, the Human Torch! While Professor X leads this member of the Fantastic Four to the X-Men’s secret headquarters, the X-Men do their best to stop the Juggernaut.

When the Torch finally arrives, Professor X can finally start his plan to stop his stepbrother.
While the Human Torch uses his power to blind the Juggernaut, Angel quickly dives and takes away Cain’s protective helmet, already loosened by Beast earlier in the battle, making him vulnerable to Xavier’s mindblasts.

With the Juggerneut finally defeated, Professor X mentally alters the memory of the Human Torch, keeping the X-Men’s secret headquarters a secret.

First Appearance: Bolivar Trask, Sentinels

The X-Men have fully recovered from their wounds inflicted by the Juggernaut and professor Xavier gives his students some well deserved vacation. Overjoyed they have some time off after all the recent battles, the X-Men get themselves ready as fast as they can so they can visit their homes. Warren beats Scott asking Jean to accompany her to the station, but Scott tells himself it’s better this way anyway because of his deadly eyes.

Meanwhile, a certain Bolivar Trask, one of the worlds greatest anthropologists gives an interview to some newspapers, claiming mutants are the worlds worst enemies as they have the power to conquer the human race, and are just waiting to strike.

Charles Xavier reads the shocking things Trask claims are inevitable in the next mornings newspaper, accompanied by bizarre pictures of mutants ruling over normal man. Charles Xavier feels he can not let this go unchallenged, fearing it will start a worldwide panic.
He immediately calls a national television network, asking for a live debate between Trask and himself on television. The television network gladly accepts such a request from a scientist of Xavier’s stature.

The very next evening the debate is all set up and professor Xavier is the first to speak. He pleads that not all mutants are menaces, and that so little is yet known about what causes mutations and to not let ignorance, rumor or unreasoning fear get a hold of people. The professor’s speech is not well received among the viewers.

Next, Bolivar Trask gets his chance to speak. He claims professor Xavier is blind to the terrible dangers mutants present, and reveals he has created a defense for mankind against the terrible mutants. For sake of illustration he asks that they assume Xavier is a mutant, and orders a Sentinel to hold him into custody. From behind the studio’s curtains a robot, twice the size of a normal man, enters the scene and grabs the professors shoulders.

At the command of Trask, more walk into the studio. To prove he has them all under total control, Trask orders the section leader to step forward. The Sentinel does just that, but then suddenly fires a ray at Trask, rendering him unconscious. The Sentinels claim to be superior to humankind and their destiny to command. Because the Sentinels are robots, Xaviers powers are useless against them, but he knows who can stop these Sentinels: his students, the X-Men!

At the Coffee a-go-go, Bobby Drake and Hank McCoy are listening to Bernard the Poet, but just as they are about to order a drink from Zelda, they receive the mental call from Professor X. They quickly get themselves into an alley and change into their X-Men costumes and race to the professors aid.

Warren Worthington was just about to eat with his parents, when he receives the mental call from Professor X. He quickly excuses himself to his parents, and leaves for the television studio.

Back at the television studio, one Sentinel is left behind to guard the humans while the others leave the studio with Trask prisoner to go back to the base where they were created.
Professor X is able to prevent panic by using his powers on all present. He loses control of one them though, but manages to save him from the reacting Sentinels’ beam by throwing a mental force bolt at him, causing him to fall on the ground just before the beam is about to hit him.

At that exact moment, Iceman and Beast enter the studio, and attack the Sentinel immediately.

Just a few blocks away Scott Summers has taken a cab to the studio, but when the driver takes a turn too sharp, Scott loses his glasses causing his destructive beams to fire a hole through the roof of the cab. The driver stops just around the corner of the television building, screaming that Scott is a mutie. Before a crowd can catch him, Scott can enter the television studio and quickly change into his X-Men costume.

Cyclops enters the battle begun by Iceman and Beast. He orders Beast to perform the ‘duo-smash’ strategy. Beast knows the Sentinel is too fast for the trick, he goed through with it, but gets knocked out. Just as the Sentinel is about to crush the Beast, the machine stops, and falls down backwards, deactivated.

Meanwhile, the Angel encounters some weird traffic in the sky: the other Sentinels, with their prisoner Trask. Not knowing who or what they are, he approaches them. Not soon after he is evading the Sentinels’ deadly lasers. Angel is suddenly drawn down towards a speeding train. He lands on the roof, unable to fly away. Something holds him in place. The Sentinels return to their first objective, returning to their base of their creation.

Angel then learns that Marvel Girl is the one responsible for the Angels tight embrace of the train’s.

Back at the television studio, Professor X has learned from the fallen Sentinel where their base of creation is, and when Marvel Girl and Angel arrive, the X-Men are ready to go after the Sentinels in force.

Bolivar Trask has regained consciousness, and desperately tries to gain back control from his former robotic soldiers. But his words have no effect on the Sentinels. At that same moment, the X-Men arrive in the professors car.

They are all wondering where this huge base is supposed be, as they see nothing but a peacefull landscape. One second later, an entire hill rises from the ground, with laser beams firing away!

First Appearance:Master Mold
Origin: Beast

The X-Men quickly head for higher ground, where they are out of reach of the Nature Activator Rays firing from the Sentinel fortress.

Professor X orders his X-Men to use plan G. Iceman makes a glider of ice, big enough for himself and Beast to stand on. With the help of Cyclops’ power, they are launched over the dangerous area the Sentinels can fire their dangerous lasers at. Angel follows as back up, just in case something goes wrong.

And something does go wrong. The fortress proves to have more weapons at it’s disposal, as two mechanical tentacles race out of the Sentinel base, and manage to capture Iceman and the Beast. Angel manages to stay free, but his friends are imprisoned immediately in a transparent cage and put to sleep at once by the powerful Sentinels.

Bolivar Trask is still trying to convince the Sentinels to stop their actions and listen to him.
He created the Sentinels to guard the human race from mutants, but the Sentinels claim that the humans are too weak and foolish to govern themselves, thus to guard over humans they must become their master. The Sentinels bring Trask before the Master Mold.
The Master Mold is the only one who can create new Sentinels, but Trask is the only one who knows how, and that is why they have taken him prisoner.

The Master Mold threatens to destroy half the nation if Trask does not help create more Sentinels. Trask says the X-Men will surely stop him, but Master Mold reminds him that Trask created them to destroy the X-Men.

Meanwhile outside the remaining X-Men are preparing for a second attack on the Sentinel base. They are ready to strike as soon as Professor X has done his part. The Sentinels may be mechanical and thus have no brains for the leader of the X-Men to control, he can still strike them with a bolt of pure mental energy. As soon as Professor X has taken out the Sentinels operating the weapons, the two remaining Sentinels left standing decide one of them should ask their section leader what to do now, as they do not have been programmed to operate the weapons.

In the meantime a still sleeping Beast has been brought before the Master Mold, to be subjected to the mental psycho probe. The Master Mold hopes that way he can learn all the secrets of the X-Men. The ray is turned on, and the Beast tells his origin story.

His fellow X-Men have made their move, and managed to enter the base.
They soon encounter the Sentinel left behind, but as it is not programmed to act against additional humans, so he orders the X-Men to follow him to his section leader. Cyclops decides it is best to follow the Sentinel, so they get taken directly to the Sentinel leader without having to fight.

As they follow the Sentinel, they walk pass the room where Iceman is still imprisoned within the transparent cage. While Marvel Girl and Angel take out the Sentinel, Cyclops frees Iceman from his prison.

The Sentinel that left the weapons chamber to find the section leader in the meanwhile found his section leader, and alarms start ringing soon after.

This does not stop the interrogation of Beast though, and Professor X must take action fast before Hank unwillingly gives away too much information about the X-Men. Xavier uses his powers to temporarily deaden Hank McCoy’s thoughts, so that not even the psycho probe can get any more information from the Beast. Xavier has to try to probe the Master Molds mechanical brain, but surprisingly, the Master Mold senses the probe, and uses micro electric blasts to defend himself from Xavier’s powers. Xavier quickly hurries to his body outside, as the blasts from the Master Mold weakens his astral form greatly.

In another part of the base, a squad of Sentinels have found the X-Men, and immediately attack. The X-Men manage to take out the first Sentinel, but another Sentinel quickly uses a heavy gravity ray to push the mutants to the floor, unable to move.

With the X-Men now defeated, Master Mold now orders Trask to build his army of thousands of Sentinels to take control of mankind.

Death: Bolivar Trask
Destruction: Master Mold

Professor X’s astral form just barely makes it back to his physical body. When he looks up, he witnesses the Sentinel fortress sinking into the ground again, and thus once again perfectly camouflaged. Charles Xavier realizes his only chance now is to find out why the Sentinel in the television studio back in the city suddenly fell and deactivated. The professor uses his mental powers to make sure a passing car stops and takes him to the city.

Back in the now hidden fortress, the X-Men with the exception of Beast have all been placed in a heavy gravity globe. The captured mutants try their powers on the globe to try and break free, but nothing works. Cyclops realizes that keep using their powers on the globe would just drain their strength, and while it doesn’t work anyway, they should just stop trying. He figures the Sentinels have to open the globe to get at them, so that is a better time to strike.

In another room of the fortress the Master Mold no longer has need of the Beast, so the mutant can be put in the globe with the other captured X-Men, and they will all be destroyed later.
Hearing the Beast tell his story, Trask has now realized he was wrong about mutants, but if he does not obey the Master Mold and immediately start working on making more Sentinels, Master Mold will destroy a nearby city. Trask will create the Sentinels, if only to buy some time.

Back at the television studio, professor Xavier has arrived, and offers his help to the policemen present. Xavier uses his powers to find out what made the Sentinel just fall over, and he discovers that a huge crystal at the top of a crystal products building broke the mission beam to the Sentinel. Move the Sentinel, and he will once again be activated. So the professor suggests to the police inspector to destroy the source of the transmissions beams, and Xavier knows just how to do just that.

Back at the Sentinel fortress, the Sentinels are about to throw the still sleeping Beast into the globe with his other captive teammates. Cyclops knows this is their chance, so he orders his friends to be ready to strike at his command. When that moment is there, Cyclops fires the first shot and manages to make the Sentinel holding Beast to fall, dropping Beast in the process. The fallen Sentinel has been blasted just right, so the other Sentinels now trip over their fallen mechanical comrade. The X-Men now free, they grab Beast and head for the room where the Master Mold is with Bolivar Trask. Behind them, a new detachment of Sentinels have arrived though, and fire their stun guns at the X-Men, knocking them out.
The Sentinels now prepare to kill the X-Men with their powerful destructo-beams ready to be fired.

But just as they are about to fire, they suddenly fall to the floor. Outside the hidden fortress, professor Xavier has arrived, with the big crystal being carried by three police helicopters.

Meanwhile, the X-Men have regained consciousness and continue to head for the room with the Master Mold.

At that moment, eight new Sentinels are about to be activated. Trask doesn’t want to do it, but a city will be destroyed if he does not obey. He’s thinking to himself that he was wrong about making Sentinels to stop mutants, and fears his name will be the most hated throughout mankind if the Sentinels will do as they planned. He decides his own life means nothing compared to the many that will fall before the might of the Master Mold and his Sentinels, and is prepared to sacrifice himself to stop his own creation.

Trask shatters the ionic power source, causing an explosion that neither Trask himself and the Master Mold can survive. The X-Men are forced back due to the immense heat from the fire, already knocking out Iceman. The rest of the base is caving in as well, so they have to use all their powers to reach the exit. Finally outside and safe, the base explodes.

The National Guard arrives on the scene where the X-Men just survived the explosion of the Sentinels base. Their medics immediately tend to the wounded X-Men. Beast and Iceman have to go to the hospital for further medical treatment, and Cyclops will accompany them just to be sure their masks stay on. Even though some see the X-Men now as heroes, it would still be too dangerous to reveal their real identities. Marvel Girl and Angel escort professor Xavier to his car , and then they follow the two ambulances to the hospital.

In the hospital, Professor X finds out that Iceman’s condition is worse then he thought. Iceman has blacked out during the ride to the hospital. Iceman finally starts to move a bit, and even speak but he is delirious, mumbling about how he feels he has to prove himself as an X-Man.

Professor Xavier visits Beast next, and things look much better for Hank McCoy. His right foot was fractured during the battle with the Sentinels, but according to the doctor the fractures are healing remarkably well.

Meanwhile, Angel is calling the X-Men secret headquarters’ answering machine, to check if there are any messages while they were away on their mission. Angel is shocked to learn that his parents called, and that they will come by for a visit the same day. Through his mental powers Professor X has heard Angels mental agitation, and he sends Angel to scout around the school before his parents arrive. Professor X has sensed a menace around the school which he cannot place or shake off and he wants to make sure everything is alright when Warren’s parents arrive.

All looks safe and normal as usual from outside the school, so Angel decides to look inside the school. He finds the door unlocked and already open. As soon as Angel opens the door wide and places one step into the hallway, the iron ax from the displayed old armor suddenly hurtles with great speed towards the X-Man. He leaps out of the way, and the ax smashes into the door behind him. The menace speaks, assuring Angel he will never leave the house again on his own power. Angel flies towards where the voice is coming from, but he flies straight into a trap and smashes into a suddenly dropped transparent shield, knocking the hero out.

Back in the hospital, Professor Xavier quickly visits Cyclops, who has a problem with a doctor who wants to examine his eyes. Xavier mentally tells Scott to show the good doctor why he can never remove his visor. The doctor backs off, and Xavier brings Cyclops up to date through his mental powers about the situation. Xavier has lost contact with Angel, and so he and Cyclops quickly drive to the mansion.

When they both enter the mansion, Cerebro’s alarm sounds aloud and they both rush towards the mutant detecting machine to shut it off. Suddenly, behind Xavier, metal cables surround him and mental wave distorters makes him black out. Cyclops rushes in to help his mentor, but a transparent shield stops him. Cyclops try blasting through the shield, but with no successful result. Then the lights go out. The still unknown menace keeps hitting Cyclops with his fists, while Cyclops keeps firing, but always missing his target. After a short while the unknown menace decides it is time to end this game, and knocks Cyclops unconscious.

We return once again to the hospital, where a fully recovered Beast is bouncing from wall to wall. Marvel Girl walks in and is reminded by Beast that mutants heal more quickly. Marvel Girl then tells Beast she is worried about the others, who haven’t contacted either of them since they left. They both decide to head back to the school.

When Beast and Marvel Girl enter the hallway, they immediately find out that the walls and floor are covered with a waxlike gloss so that there is no friction, nothing to hold onto.
Because Beast rushed in, he glides straight into a trapdoor, which immediately closes behind him. Marvel Girl might have been more careful of entering the mansion more carefully, but she can not manage to open the door Beast disappeared into. When she turns around, sees the unknown menace and recognizes him, but she soon falls asleep thanks to an odorless sleep gas released by that same unknown menace.

All X-Men are locked inside a steel globe which then rises to the edge of space, and when the air runs out that would mean the end of the X-Men.

Shortly after that, Warren’s parents arrive at the mansion. But not one of the students greets them while opening the door, but none other then…Magneto!

Magneto, through magnetic attraction, hypnotizes Warren’s parents, and orders them to go to sleep upstairs where they will remain until he has need of them. Even though Iceman is still free, Magneto is confidant that he has nothing to fear from in his eyes the weakest X-Man.

The doctors at the hospital can wait no longer, and decide to use the new sulfa drug and the new recently created laser-induced hypodermic to inject the drug is Iceman‘s icy form. It’s never been tried before, but it‘s Iceman’s only hope for recovery. The new laser does it’s job, and the sulfa drug is successfully injected. The next few hours will tell if Iceman will fully recover.

Meanwhile, the gondola that holds the X-Men prisoner is still floating higher and higher. Professor Xavier has regained consciousness, and even though the pain and pressure in almost unbearable, he focuses his mental powers on the distorter still strapped to his head. He finally manages to break the device, and soon the other X-Men regain their consciousness as well. They now know Magneto is the villain who defeated them by surprise.

Inside Xavier’s mansion, Magneto has constructed a machine that will help him create an army of mutants, made from duplicate body cells from the Angel’s parents, still in a deep sleep in the room next door.

While Marvel Girl telekinetically holds the gondola in place so it doesn’t rise further,
Professor X uses his mental powers to scan for Magneto, and he is shocked to find the villain has captured Warren’s parents. Even though Professor X knows Iceman is still recovering, he has no choice but to contact him and send him to the school.

Professor X then aims his powerful mental powers downwards, to scan Magneto’s mind how he escaped from the Stranger. In Magneto’s mind Professor X sees how even though Magneto and Toad were both prisoners of the Stranger, they could roam the entire planet because the Stranger thought that they could never leave the planet anyway. But the Stranger underestimated Magneto’s powers. With his magnetic powers he powered up one of the spaceships he found in a sort of intergalactic museum, and headed for Earth, but leaving Toad behind. Professor X then turns his mental powers one more time to Iceman, to give him final instructions, and then Xavier will focus all his attention to try to contact someone else.

When Iceman arrives at the school, he uses his powers to form an ice shield above Warren’s parents, so that Magneto’s machine can no longer duplicate the cells of the two sleeping parents. In the room next door, Magneto notices something is wrong when his machine making the android mutants suddenly stops. When he checks out the room with Warren’s parents, he is surprised to find the Iceman inside as well. Magneto quickly tries to knock Iceman out with some metal parts, but Iceman makes a sled of ice and slides past the mutant villain, down the stairs. Arrogantly, Magneto follows Iceman but when he steps outside the room, he slips and slides through a big ice tunnel outside where Iceman means to trap him in a big igloo but before he himself can get out, Magneto seals of the exit with his magnetic powers, trapping the Iceman in his own trap.

Professor X senses the danger Iceman is in, and orders Cyclops to make the smallest possible hole in the gas balloon above them. It works, and the gondola is finally falling back to earth…but too fast! But Professor X has the solution, and he orders Marvel Girl to use her powers at the last moment to brake their fall. Cyclops then uses his optic powers to blast a hole in the gondola, so the X-Men are free at last.

And not a moment too soon, as Magneto is moving in to kill Iceman.
The X-Men quickly attack Magneto, but Magneto proves to be too strong for the young mutants.

Suddenly, Professor X commands his X-Men to stop fighting. Above them, the Stranger is arriving, called mentally by Professor X in the gondola when they were still trapped up high. Magneto retreats, and the Stranger chases after him.

The X-Men quickly turn their attention to the machine producing the android mutants, and just before the first creature is about to emerge, the machine stops. While the other X-Men head for the machine, Iceman went upstairs and removed the machine from above Warren’s parents. Warren’s parents finally awake the next morning, none the wiser of what all happened yesterday, and go downstairs to enjoy breakfast with their son and his fellow students and their professor.

First Appearance: Mimic, Vera
Origin: Mimic
Death: Ronald Rankin

The X-Men train their powers under the watchful eye of Cyclops. The training is interrupted and ended by professor Xavier. Now that the X-Men are all fully recovered from their latest battle, Charles Xavier gives all the X-Men some much deserved free time.

So later that same day, Hank McCoy and Bobby Drake head for the public library, where Zelda has arranged a blind date for Hank. When they arrive, Hank is checking out some pre-school age books, when a woman speaks up to Hank because of that. Before the two get get into a serious argument, Zelda arrives. When Bobby asks where Hank’s blind date is, it appears to be none other then the woman hank was about to argue with. She works part time at the library. Soon after, the four are walking down the street, when Vera spots Calvin Rankin down the street. Even though she made clear that she does not want to date him, the guy won’t take no for an answer and is even quite angry that Vera is on a date with Hank.
Calvin swings his fist towards Hank, but due to his exceptional training Hank easily dodges the blow. Hank then wants to return the greeting, but surprisingly Calvin side-steps Hank’s blow as easily as he did his. Then Calvin starts leaping around like the Beast. Hank does not dare to use his powers so openly, as it would endanger his X-Man identity, so Calvin knocks out Hank with little effort. When Bobby is about to step in, Calvin hits him in the face with a snowball. Some nearby construction workers have seen it all happen and have come to the conclusion that the guy leaping around and using ice powers must be a mutant. They all chase Calvin, but thanks to the powers of both Iceman and Beast he manages to get away unscratched by heading for a nearby rooftop. Calvin is surprised to suddenly having powers, but he knows who those powers belong to. He knows he was fighting the Beast and Iceman. Now that he knows the secret identities of two members of the X-Men, he figures he can now find out the other X-Men’s identities as well. After experimenting with his newfound powers, he is tired and when he wants to create some ice to cool him off a bit, the powers he copied are gone. He forgot that he only copies powers for a limited amount of time. But for his plan to destroy the X-Men, he needs them back.

Meanwhile, Jean grey is just finished with shopping, and decides to have a quick snack before returning to the school. She accidentally bumps into none other then Calvin Rankin, who would have punched her if she wasn’t a girl. Jean apologizes and moves along. When Rankin sits down and needs the sugar from another table, just thinking about wanting it on his table moves the sugar to him. He now knows he found another X-Man! He decides to follow Jean to learn where the X-Men live.

The next day the Beast and Iceman clue professor Xavier in about what they experienced yesterday. Professor X tells them Calvin can’t be a mutant, because Cerebro does not register him. At that same time, the doorbell rings and Xavier mentally knows it’s Rankin.

Calvin says he followed Jean, because he wanted to apologize for his behavior. Because he now also has the professor’s mental power, Professor X can no longer read his mind as Calvin is blocking his thoughts. The X-Men introduce themselves. Beast is shocked that the professor then lets him go upstairs, because he can learn all about them, but Xavier explains that Calvin already knows who they are. He orders his X-Men to change into costume for he knows that when Calvin returns, it will be to challenge them.

Upstairs, Calvin releases wings just like the Angel’s from his back, and gets into costume. When he returns downstairs, he introduces himself as Mimic, and that he will defeat them all. The X-Men all go after him, but the Mimic proves can handle them all with all of their powers in his possession. Professor X says that the Mimic is too strong and that the X-Men must fight as a team to defeat him. On Xavier’s signal, the X-Men attack again as a team, they manage to bring Calvin to his knees. Not wanting to surrender, he leaps towards Marvel Girl, grabs her, and drives off in his car waiting outside the mansion door.

Professor X and the X-Men follow the speeding car in the X-Men helicopter. When Calvin arrives at a mine, he already appears to have lost the wings of the Angel, and his body no longer resembles that of Beast. Deep within the mine, Jean is surprised to see living quarters there, for comfort and apparently living in secret. While he waits for the X-Men to find him, Calvin Rankin tells Jean a story.

He tells the story of a young boy whose father was a scientist, working on a dangerous experiment. His father told him repeatedly to stay out of the room when he was working, but the boy was young, foolish…and defiant. One day when his father was out on an errand, he went inside the room and accidentally knocked over a beaker, and gas fills the room. Coughing, gasping and eyes smarting, he carefully cleans up the lab and leaves. The following months and years strange things began to happen. He copied skills of other schoolmates and teachers. His father finally became aware of what happened to his son, and he also knew that normal people would rise against him if they learned of his powers. They went to an abandoned mine, and made it their new home. The father build a machine that would make the boy keep the abilities he copied. The machine was finally finished, but when powered up, it short circuited every fuse in the county. Warning signals alert the two that someone is getting close to their home, and when they look outside a huge angry mob was approaching rapidly. The scientist had explosives placed near the entrance of the mine for just this sort of emergency, but the blast was bigger then he expected, and was killed in that blast. When the mob left, the son dug himself out, and swore revenge.

Jean knows that Calvin is the boy in the story. The Mimic wanted the X-Men to follow him, so that when they are close he will have their powers, and then he can use those powers to get to the machine his father built, still buried after all these years.

The X-Men finally find the tied up Jean, but Calvin is gone, already having reached the machine his father built. The machine powered up, Calvin moves to stand under it, but then the X-Men arrive. Calvin throws up an ice shield, and knocks it over, blocking the X-Men for a few seconds. That’s all he needs though, as he grabs the professor, and flies to the machine.

The professor orders the X-Men to stop, and let Xavier himself handle this. Calvin activates the machine…and collapses. Professor X orders the X-men to get Mimic and then get out quickly, as the machine is about to explode within minutes. The Angel, carrying Professor X, asks how the professor knows the machine will blow up. The professor has caused the short-circuit himself, mentally. When everyone is safe outside, the machine blows up, sealing off the mine forever.

Even though the X-men are standing around Calvin, he shows no signs of having the X-Men’s powers. Professor X explains that he misunderstood what his father tried to do. He did not want for Calvin to keep the powers he copied, but to erase his powers of mimicry. The machine succeeded and the Mimic is no more.

First Appearance: Supreme One
Origin: Professor X

Two villains dressed in X-Men garb are robbing a bank, and holding the bank’s manager hostage so the guards don’t dare open fire. The two villains want him to open the vault, but it has a time lock and so it won’t unlock for another hour. That doesn’t stop the two bank robbers, as one simply rips the vault door out of the vault. Immediately going for the money inside, they release the hostage and one of the guards sees his chance to open shoot. Surprisingly, the bullets simply bounce of one both bank robbers. Once outside the bank, the other police officers are trying to stop the two but even though they outnumber the two bad guys greatly, again the bank robbers have no trouble dealing with them and they reach their getaway car unharmed.

Meanwhile at the real X-Men’s headquarters, Scott Summers has decided to leave the X-Men so he can find a doctor who can cure him of his deadly eye beams, so he will never hurt Jean whom he loves very much. As he fades into the distance, the other X-Men at the other side of the mansion watch on the television what has happened at the bank. Hank rushes to tell professor Xavier, who is almost finished installing the newly built Cerebro.
The professor mentally summons all his X-Men to get to him as fast as possible.

On a big screen, an image becomes clear of who masqueraded as X-Men, and they were none other then the Blob and Unus. Hank still has the ray that he used to make Unus pledge he would stay on the right path. The professor tells Hank that Unus might have found a way to counteract that weapon by now, and that he senses a mysterious third entity masterminding the entire scheme, but a mental screen prevents Charles Xavier from finding out the masterminds true identity.

Jean notices Scott is still not among them, and when Bobby goes looking for him, he finds the goodbye letter Scott left behind. Xavier noticed Scott was very distraught the past few weeks, but there is no time to worry about that now. As the X-Men get ready to try and stop the two imposter X-Men, the professor will build a mechanical memory-inducer to penetrate their foe’s defenses. Jean stays behind to aid Professor X, and can’t help but wonder if she will ever see Scott again.

And from a location unknown to Charles Xavier and his X-Men, we learn that none other then Lucifer is behind everything. A few days ago, he discovered both Unus and the Blob, who were fighting each other during a match. They both understood the other was a mutant, as they used their powers to try to win the fight. Lucifer planted the idea in their minds that they should meet up, and team-up and pretend to be X-Men while robbing a bank.

At that same moment, Scott stumbles upon the two evil mutants, who have just robbed an armored money truck. Scott does not want to interfere, as he promised himself he would first control his deadly eyes before ever using them again. But as he overhears the crowd blaming all mutants, he knows he must do something to prove at least the X-Men are no threat for other people. Scott quickly changes into his Cyclops costume unnoticed, and confronts the two imposters. The crowd acts confused at Cyclops’s naming them imposters, but the two evil mutants keep into their role and say things that make the crowd think Cyclops is one of them. Having failed making the crowd understand, Cyclops retreats into a nearby alley.

A few seconds later, the other X-Men arrive, trying to stop the Blob and Unus. Beast uses theray that stopped Unus the first time, but the ray has no effect at all this time, thanks to Lucifer. As the X-Men try to battle the Blob and Unus, the crowd turns against them and pile up on Beast and Iceman. As the Blob and Unus move in to finish Beast and Iceman, the crowd scatters, but before the two evil mutants can lay a hand on either X-Man, Cyclops blasts a hole in the street, causing both Blob and Unus to fall to the subway below. Luckily for the two imposters, they land on a subway train, and thus making their escape. Cyclops orders the X-men to retreat as well, as the crowd is still angry.

Meanwhile, Professor X has managed to penetrate the mental screen of Lucifer, but Lucifer has prepared for this. A big dome appears in the great desert in the southwestern portion of the United States, and fires a beam riding on the mental waves of the professor, right back to him.
Professor X is unable to evade the beam, but still manages to pull up some defense. Even though the professor is unable to move at all after the blast, his mental powers are okay, although considerably weakened. Charles tells Jean to put on the mental-wave amplifier, so she can hear the professors mental voice more clear. Professor Xavier tells Jean the villain behind it all is Lucifer, and he also tells her how he and Lucifer first met.

Some years ago, fascinated by tales of a mysterious walled city in the shadow of the Himalayas Charles Xavier traveled through Tibet and found that walled city. At the gate is surprisingly little resistance to let him enter. Once inside the city Charles feels eyes focused on him. The thought waves of the people indicate abject fear of their ruler. Professor Xavier uses his powers to scan around, and discovers not only that a select few are under control of the tyrant, who then in turn keep others in line, but also that machines are the source of the tyrants power. Machines made from metals not found on Earth. The tyrant is from…another world.
Professor Xavier locates the more rebellious people in the city, as he has a plan to stop the unseen tyrant. They happily accept Charles’ help.

As they are discussing their plan of attack, the mysterious ruler has taken control of one of them and cuts the rope of the chandelier just above Xavier and the others. Xavier sensed the treachery just in time to warn everyone else so no one gets hurt. Knowing the ruler knows of their plan to attack him, they must act now. They all go through the tunnel leading into the castle, but despite being booby trapped, Xavier manages to get everyone through safely thanks to his mental powers. Just as the tyrant, Lucifer, knows that they managed to get inside the castle, his master the Supreme One, contacts him to ask him why they register that some equipment on Earth is destroyed. Instead of facing and fighting of the attacking people, he is ordered to retreat to a new sector so they can work on their plan there. Just as he rounds the corner, Lucifer finds himself eye to eye with Charles Xavier. Xavier asks Lucifer where he is from, and what he wants. But Lucifer won’t tell a thing, and activates yet another trap, and a big block is falls from just above Xavier. Professor Xavier jumps away, but he can’t dodge it in time and his legs get caught underneath the heavy block, crushing his legs. Just before losing consciousness Xavier sees Lucifer disappear into the very wall itself.

In the present, Lucifer, having taken care of professor X, is ready to go to the last phase of his race’s plan to conquer Earth. In the city where he met Xavier for the first time, he could control the people being in close range, but his control of the Blob and Unus has proved that longer distances are now possible. He contacts his leader the Supreme One, and tells him that the time has come for Dominus.

Meanwhile, it is finally safe outside for the X-Men to come out of hiding and head back to the school. When they get back, they are shocked to find the professor paralyzed. However, the professor has been giving Jean directions for a beam distorter for the Beast to build, and Hank gets on it right away.

Hank finishes the helmet just in time, and Xavier can once again move and speak. Under the beams influence, Professor X has learned the location of Lucifer, and the X-Men get everything ready as fast as they can, and head for the southwest desert to finally confront Lucifer.

A bright light comes down from the sky, at the exact point of the hidden base from Lucifer. The X-Men and the men of a nearby ranch both head towards the location of the where the light touches the ground. The two groups both meet each other, and the men from the ranch start shooting at Angel immediately, as the owner of the ranch has heard that the X-Men were wanted back east. With their mutant powers, the X-Men effortlessly take out the men from the ranch.

The X-Men enter Lucifer’s base on an ice raft on the river leading into Lucifer’s mountain base. As soon as they enter, Professor X loses telepathic contact with his students. He keeps trying, and so does not notice two robots coming up from behind him. They capture Professor X, and they take him to Lucifer. Lucifer tells Xavier to look around him. All the machines and computers in the room form the indestructible machine Dominus. He explains to Xavier that his race have perfected Dominus over eons, and the complex robots are needed to operate it. His race establish a headquarters in secret on a planet, and when the time is right, they activate Dominus, a machine which takes away the independent will of every living being on an entire planet, to be better used as slaves.

Meanwhile, the X-Men have made it inside the base via the underground river, but Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Angel are captured in a transparent cube the moment they set foot inside the base. Robots try to capture Iceman and Beast, but even though they appear to be able to escape, a suddenly dropped metal wall stops the two mutants and knocks them out. They put the two X-Men in the transparent cube with the other three captured X-Men. When two of the robots leave for operating Dominus, just one is left to guard the X-Men.

Marvel Girl paid close attention when the robots placed Beast and Iceman inside the cube, and uses her power to flip the switch, setting them free. Cyclops blasts the robot from behind, and takes him out. That however causes the alarms to go off, and Lucifer orders two more robots to take the X-Men down. The X-Men hear them coming, and take cover. With the X-Men inside the base, Xavier can once again contact his students telepathically. He orders them to not damage Dominus. Lucifer finds the X-Men, and the students see that he has captured their mentor. Lucifer tells them that they can not stop Dominus, and Angel wants to prove otherwise before the robots return, and flies to strike the machine. Cyclops stops him though, with a soft optic blast, that stuns the Angel lightly. At that moment Iceman throws a big chunk of ice towards the machine, but Marvel Girl deflects it. Cyclops and Marvel Girl tell the two hotheads that Professor X told them not to damage the machine, and that he will have a reason to ask them that.

The robots have returned, and they immediately attack the X-Men. With their mutant powers, the battle is won in a short time by the X-Men. With the robots destroyed, Dominus can not be activated, the Earth is safe.

At that moment, the Supreme One contacts Lucifer as he wants to know why they lost the signal of all the robots. Lucifer tells that they have been destroyed. The Supreme One is furious, as the destruction of the robots will mean that other captured planets will rise in revolt. He sentences Lucifer to be banished to a nameless dimension where neither time nor space exists. Lucifer disappears before the X-Men’s eyes, unable to save him, and the machines that form Dominus are drawn back into space via a newly appeared bright light.
