Gamma base receives a new shipment; their new lab monkey, Number 92. It will be used to test Doctor Bruce Banner's gamma bomb to see if it can destroy enemy equipment without harming anyone. General Ross threatens to halt further experiments if Banner is not successful. Betty Ross is furious that her father is treating Banner in such a way, but just as angry that Banner refuses to stand up for himself.

The test is prepared, the town mock-up is ready for be destroyed and the monkey is set in the middle as the main test subject. Unfortunately once the countdown is engaged, Bruce notices his intern, Rick Jones, trying to free the monkey. The countdown cannot be stopped and Bruce must race out to the test site to save Rick. With seconds to spare he manages to get Rick and the monkey to a bunker, but the door accidentally closes with him on the outside and Bruce takes the full force of the blast. Desperately, Betty searches the test site for Bruce, but instead finds a huge, angry, green man. Betty manages to calm him and he quickly reduces in size back to Bruce Banner.

Back at the base, Banner is strapped to a table for tests. General Ross considers the test a failure and begins to berate Banner and what he considers a large waste of money. Banner cannot contain his anger and transforms back into a hulking, green giant. He throws General Ross across the room before smashing through a wall.

General Ross calls in reinforcements, but the soldiers are nothing against the giant’s strength. Rick falls in the path of a tank but the Hulk easily destroys the machine before Rick can be hurt.

Forced out on the run, the Hulk is joined by his new friend Rick and the liberated monkey. General Ross vows to capture the menace.
