We learn that Spider-Ham has lost his thought balloons with caption boxes, which he is unhappy with and is able to gather and pile up, essentially breaching the third wall.
It is possible that Mark Millar is breaching the third wall as well, but his arm is pictured in panel and is included in the appearance list.
Spider-Ham sits in a rat infested alley contemplating his recent existence. He feels he has run out of ideas and misses his thought balloons. Stepping out into the battle strewn street, he attempts to interrupt Captain America and Iron Man who are in the throws of battle. Captain America stops to explain the evils of the Super Hero Merchandising act, until he learns that the dispute should be over the Super-Hero Registration Act and so the battle resumes. Unable to get a word in, Spider-Ham walks away from the battle.
He finds Doctor Strange also in battle and tries to stop him from casting spells long enough to get his help in looking for his though balloons. Not noticing Spider-Ham, Doctor Strange opens a dimensional portal and they both are drawn into the rift which becomes unstable because Spider-Ham is not kosher.
Spider-Ham finds himself in another reality, The 'Ham, and is quickly sent on a mission. He eventually finds a large, whispering man who directs him through an ornately carved wall. Beyond the wall he changes, becoming strangely twisted versions of himself: Wolverham, Iron Ham, Green Ham, and even the quartet Fantastic Ham. He becomes Deviled Ham, Ant-Ham, Aunt-Ham, Ultimate Captain Hamerica, Hambit, and Hamneto before eventually being recovered by Doctor Strange and returned to the beginning of the book.
Once again, he thinks without thought balloons. As he wanders off to look for his though balloons, he notices two rats dressed as Spider-Man and Venom conversing with the use of thought balloons and he takes them for his own. Believing his story has had a happy ending, he is surprised when he rounds a corner to discover he is actually on the world of the Marvel Zombies and becomes Zombie-Ham!
