Story Title: Squash! Goes the Spider!
Writer: Stan Lee
Penciler: Gil Kane
Inker: Frank Giacoia
Letterer: Sam Rosen
First Appearance: Spider-Slayer Mark IV
Spider-Man spider sense warns him that he is being watched, but it is too late. He has been seen taking off his mask by a video camera mounted on the corner of the roof. He quickly puts his mask back on and webs over the camera, but Spencer Smythe has already seen him without his mask. He sees that it is labled “Property of the N.Y. Police Dept” and concludes that it has nothing to do with Smythe, although he cannot take the a chance if someone has seen him. He decides to get help from Doctor Curt Conners. Conners lets Spider-Man use his lab in privacy and Peter sets to work creating a plastic mask of his own features then swings back out over the city.
Back at the Daily Bugle, Jameson tries to reactivate his Spider-Slayer control when it suddenly explodes in a cloud of smoke. Joe Robertson informs him of the recent theft of the master control unit for the rooftop cameras and Jonah tells him to write the incident up for the paper.
In his lab, Smythe revels in his victory and meets with four top gang leaders of New York and offers his services in keeping ahead of the police with his new video access. He then trains the video equipment on Spider-Man who he again sees unmasked, until Spider-Man pulls the false face from over his mask throwing their belief in his true face into question. The gangsters realize that if Spider-Man knows about their control of the video equipment then their plans will mean nothing, but Smythe tells them that his latest Spider-Slayer will make short work of him.
Swinging past the Daily Bugle Spider-Man sees that there is another protest in progress but this time it is being led by J. Jonah Jameson himself. They are protesting the scanners that have been installed across the city. Spider-Man soon figures out that the equipment must have been built by Smythe for the city in order to serve his own purposes.
Back at his apartment Peter takes a moment to talk to his friend Harry Osborne who cannot sleep because he is worried about his relationship with Mary Jane Watson. They are soon joined by Mary Jane and other friends who have pizza and Peter leaves to join Gwen Stacy for a date. He has been worried about her recent interest in Flash, but she simply explains that she has simply been worried about a friend who has been having trouble adjusting to being a civilian again.
Relieved by the news, Peter decides to pay Flash a private visit and puts his Spider-Man costume on to swing over and pay a visit. Along the way he becomes entangled in a giant spider web and is hit with a freezing blast of ethyl chloride. Spider-Man comes face-to-face with Spencer Smythe inside a huge Spider-Slayer.

Story Title: Spidey Smashes Thru!
Writer: Stan Lee
Penciler: John Romita
Inker: Frank Giacoia
Letterer: Artie Simek
With the use of his latest Spider-Slayer, Spencer Smythe has managed to catch Spider-Man and he hasn’t the strength to escape due to the effects of the ethyl chloride he has been sprayed with. Spider-Man keeps Smythe talking hoping the effects of the fumes will wear off, but Smythe sprays Spider-Man a second time. Smythe returns to his lab victorious before the mob bosses and they begin to plan a bank robbery.
Gwen discusses recent events at the Daily Bugle with Randy Robertson and Josh, particularly the demonstration against the video cameras installed across the city. She asks if anyone has seen Peter recently and begins to worry when they tell her they have not seen him. Later, she bumps into Flash Thompson who is troubled by something which he is not willing to discuss.
Still a captive of Smythe, Spider-Man hangs upside down from the ceiling of Smythe’s lab. Nearby, Smythe scans the video display watching all the police activity across the city and relays what he sees to the mob bosses. The Spider-Slayer sits patiently below Spider-Man set to automatic. The ethyl chloride slowly begins to wear off and Spider-Man begins to swing back and forth until the webbing he is hanging from breaks. The Spider-Slayer moves in to capture Spider-Man, but being on automatic it cannot keep up with him. Smythe notices the escape but cannot leave his controls. Spider-Man enters the Spider-Slayer where he finds a phone and calls the police. Spider-Man then goes after Smythe but he is stopped when Smythe closes a pair of steel doors isolating himself.
As Spider-Man swings out across the city he notices the police dismantling the video cameras following his hasty phone call. The gangsters finally arrive at the bank to find Spider-Man waiting for them and after a brief battle they are left webbed up for the police to collect. Spider-Man returns to Smythe’s lab to find Smythe back in the cockpit. He warns Smythe that he did more than simply make a phone call and the machine begins to malfunction. Spider-Man leaves Smythe and the Spider-Slayer hanging by a strand of webbing for the police to arrest.
Spider-Man then pays a quick visit to Jonah warning him to never have dealings with Smythe again. Leaving the Daily Bugle he spots Gwen walking with Flash when military personnel pull up and take Flash away.
