Lexcorp in conjunction with the U.S. military is testing the latest nuclear device outside of Las Vegas. This new weapon is made with Thanagarian technology during the test something goes haywire and the nuclear blast is more powerful than expected and has the potential to destroy Vegas. Lexcorps has Firestorm on stand by just incase something like this would take place. Firestorm starts to absorb all the radiation however some more weapons have malfunctioned and he has to destroy them before absorbing the remaining radiation. Lexcorps employees are on the site in know time trying to figure out what went wrong. Firestorm discovers a pod with a dead man inside he takes some skin samples of the dead body. Dani Sharpe the person overseeing the testing thanks him for his help and as Firestorm flies off she whispers his real name Jason to herself.
All the meanwhile Jason has been communicating with the person inside the firestorm matrix with him he separates and we discover that it is not Martin Stein but Lorraine Riley A.K.A the heroine Firehawk. The two get in an argument because Jason needs to be in New York for a date with his girlfriend while Lorraine needs to be in Washington. As she is a senator. Jason becomes frustrated and tells Lorraine that this was never intended to complicated their lives that the firestorm matrix has been unstable ever since Professor Stein disappeared and he needs to continue his search for him.
All of sudden a group of humanoid figures teleport before the two friends and they manage to capture Jason. Lorraine tells Jason to merge them into Firestorm but the villains have placed an inhibitor hood preventing him from doing so, Lorraine transforms into Firehawk and engages Jason captors in battle. While they throw Jason in a truck and start to leave Jason pleads with his kidnappers stating him and Lorraine cannot be more than a mile apart from one another because the firestorm matrix is so unstable but they ignore his pleas. Jason starts to glow with energy and Firehawk powers start to flare as well than a massive explosion occurs as the two partners scream.

Firehawk witnesses an explosion a mile away where her partner Jason is. The Dollie she was fighting teleports away and she goes off to find her partner. She finds Jason on the ground his clothes in shambles he explains that the firestorm matrix detonated because the two were more than a mile apart. Jason initiates the merge and they both turn into Firestorm to absorb the radiation from the explosion. Lorraine tells Jason that the humanoids they battle are called Dollies she has seen them before Jason tells her that’s the body they discovered at the test site. Jason than tells Lorraine that ever since Professor Stein disappeared a year ago he had the feeling he been watched and that he things all the events since last issue have to do with something Stein called the neocaust files.
Now in Washington Lorraine is giving a speech about nuclear testing of weapons and how the US should stop it. Afterwards Jason is confused as to why Lorraine voted for the new weapons bill if she is against nuclear weapons. She explains that the country does need defending and this bill comes with a rider to insure the accountability of where the money goes. She tells him this is why she gave up being a superhero to do more good this way.
Firestorm flies off to New York to meet his girlfriend Gehenna. She is not impressed that he is late for their date and that Lorraine is with him. Jason tries to smooth things over with Gehenna but she tells him that he too busy for her and that he hasn’t helped her search for her father like he promised. Lorraine sees Killer Frost on a rampage on TV. But before her and Jason can leave Jason’s father shows up. He is very insistent he speaks to Jason immediately, Lorraine turns into Firehawk and heads out. Jason tells his father he needs to go while Firehawk engages Killer Frost in battle finally Jason leaves and merges with Lorraine.
A battle ensues between Firestorm and Killer Frost but she has the upper hand because she feeds off of Firestorms power but Firestorm gets blasted from behind. Turns out Mr. Freeze has teamed-up with Killer Frost.

Mr. Freeze and Killer Frost have got Firestorm down for the count. Mr. Freeze turns Firestorm into a block of ice he melts some of the ice and attaches a jet pack to Firestorm’s back. Killer Frost grabs him and launches the jet pack and they soar off into the sky into outer space towards the sun. Back on Earth Gehenna and Jason’ father are still at his apartment making conversation.
Back in space Killer Frost is still riding Firestorm they arrive at the sun and Killer Frost leaps into it. She starts to absorb all the energy transforming her self back into her human form but is destroying the sun in the process. Inside the matrix both Jason and Lorraine learn that the closer and longer they are exposed to the sun the more unstable the matrix becomes and they are losing control over Firestorms powers. Firestorm has no clue how to stop Killer Frost because he doesn’t know the physics of how her powers work. Jason becomes frustrated and screams that he wishes the professor were here. Than Martin appears before them in the matrix.. Seems all the extra power from the sun has allowed Jason to punch through whatever has been keeping Martin locked out of the matrix. Jason’s tells him how he is been searching for him and the professor gives him a clue as to where is being held captive.
Lorraine interjects and tells Martin they desperately needs his expertise and explains the situation. He tells Jason how to defeat her, before disappearing his captor appears in the matrix window spotting both Jason and Lorraine before vanishing himself. Firestorm than slows the atoms down to absolute zero and manages to freeze Killer Frost. He then takes her back to Earth where Batman has captured Mr. Freeze he tells Firestorm he’s taking Freeze to Gotham and tells Firestorm he needs to step up his game. He is one of the most powerful heroes but yet he let Freeze and Frost kill a dozen or so people and let them blast him into space. Later Lorraine tries to comfort Jason after Batman’s lecture but Jason isn’t too concerned about him he thinks Batman is way cool to stand up to him like that with no abilities to back him up. He also intends on continuing the search for his mentor and friend Martin Stein.

One of the Dollies is relaying the events of what took place when they tried to captured Firestorm to a man known as the Pupil. The Pupil has Martin Stein as his prisoner and is torturing him for information, this time he wants to know about Lorraine Reilly.
Jason is talking with a classmate and his girlfriend is spying on him she than confronts him about the girl and they get into an argument. They meet up with Lorraine and go to Stein’s apartment to look for clues about his disappearance. After searching they find a folder containing the neocaust files but it’s all in physics jargon and no one can decipher it. The last entry in the file was on the day that Stein disappeared. He was on to something involving genetic engineering and nuclear disasters. He had gone to check out a place, Jason realizes the same place is an abandoned building on campus. Lorraine and Jason merge into Firestorm but something’s wrong the matrix has no power left in it. It seems the sun burned out all their energy. Firestorm asks if Gehenna will use her teleporting abilities to get them there.
Meanwhile at the Pupil’s hideout he is listening in on Firestorm’s conversation with Gehenna he tapped into the same radio frequency Firestorm uses thanks to information he tortured out of Stein. Pupil tells Stein he has no interest in Firestorm that his partner does his partner also the person responsible for supplying him with Dollies. The Pupil is more interested in knowing about the secrets Stein learned during his time as an elemental in the forests of the night. But Stein refuses to help him. Pupil forces Stein to tell him about Firehawk so he can prepare to subdue her with Jason. Stein tells of her origin before Firestorm comes crashing through the window.
A battle goes underway between the Dollies and Firestorm and it’s going badly with Firestorm not fully recharged. Jason separates and Lorraine transforms into Firehawk, Jason goes off in search of Stein while Firehawk takes cares of the Dollies. The Dollies mange to take Firehawk down and capture her with an inhibitor hood. Gehenna teleports in and watches everything from above. The Dollies have also captured Jason. The Pupil reveals that they are both too late Stein is dead and he brings out his body. Jason becomes furious and the Pupil informs him the only way out of this situation is to merge into Firestorm which he cant do with Firehawk due to the inhibitor hood on her so his only choice is to merge with a dead man and the Pupil can’t wait to see the results.

Jason merges with the dead body of Martin Stein. Meanwhile Gehenna manages to free Firehawk from her restraints, and Firehawk also merges with Stein and Jason inside the matrix. The Dollies spot Gehenna and attempt to capture her. Jason sees that Stein isn’t dead yet there is still a spark of life left in him. Jason uses the matrix to restore Stein’s life force.
Outside of Firestorm’s body The Pupil has captured Gehenna, he seems to know who she really is and wants to know what she keeps hidden. Gehenna having no clue what he is referring to can to nothing while the Pupil tortures her. One of the Dollies comes forward and stops Pupil from torturing Gehenna. Firestorm regains consciousness and destroys the Dollies while The Pupil makes his escape.
However Jason didn’t use enough power to save Stein he is growing weaker again and on the verge of death. Jason splits them all apart and Stein tells them to find The Pupil’s scans of his cellular structure so Jason can repair him on a molecular level. Jason merges with Stein and recharges at full power the building starts to collapse Gehenna teleports out and both Firehawk and Firestorm emerge from the rubble.
Back at Jason’s apartment Gehenna tells Jason that Lorraine told her that Jason had to make a hard decision between saving Stein’s life in the matrix or coming out to save her from the Dollies. Jason tries to justify his course of action but Gehenna walks out on him. Later Jason goes to his uncle’s house to meet his father but when he arrives his estrange mother is waiting there as well. Back in Washington Lorraine is in her office trying to catch up on her work when a figure descends into her office from the window he claims to be her old friend Firestorm.

The Pupil’s partner a mysterious man who is clocked in shadow is sending Dollies off into the skies. At one of Gehenna’s father’s labs Firestorm is battling some-sort of green monster that is comprised out of goop. There is another green humanoid creature inside the goop figure. Firestorm’s fusion blasts are ineffective against the creature and Stein is busy in the matrix trying to figure out a way to defeat it. Firestorm powers up and transmutes the creature’s goop shell into solid lead. He than searches the lab for any clues to the whereabouts of Gehenna’s father but comes up empty handed.
Firestorm flies back to Manhattan to drop the Professor off as Jason leaves the Professor asks what is troubling him and he recounts the conversation that took place between him and his parents. His mother came back because she was living in New Orleans when Katrina struck and she lost everything. She sees it as a blessing as well because she had been living with an abusive man but he was lost in Katrina. Having nowhere else to turn to she came back to Alvin, Jason’s father. She wants to try to have a relationship with Jason. But Jason says there’s not a chance and can’t believe his father is letting her back into his life. Alvin says he wants to be a family again and asks Jason to come back tomorrow night and they’ll talk about one on one he agrees.
As Jason ends his story the figure claiming to be Firestorm descends from the sky to speak to Martin Stein. While at the bottom of the building Dollies materialize. Jason turns into Firestorm and is ready to take on this other figure. Stein tries to tell him to stop but Firehawk shows up and introduces the man claiming to be Firestorm to Jason. He is an old friend of Stein and hers, his name is Mikhail Denisovich Arkadin and he was a former partner in the firestorm matrix many years ago. Mikhail tells Firestorm that he regained his powers last year in an accident. He has been operating in Europe preventing nuclear disasters and was going by the alias of Firestorm. But since Jason is the current Firestorm he has chosen his former code name Pozhar. He has come to speak to Stein but a group of Dollies scale the wall and attack the group. Stein senses that these Dollies are different than the previous ones, that they are nuclear powered.
