Alison Blaire was once the lead singer of a band called ‘Dazzler’. When Charles Xavier found out that Alison was going public with her powers for the publicity, he sent a group of X-Men to meet her. Charles wanted to find out how she was going to present herself to the media. When the X-Men talked to her, she made it clear that she wasn’t interested in joining the X-Men, unless they were able to get her a record deal, which was something she already told another third party.

Some time later, the President of the United States wanted to cut his ties with Charles Xavier for political reasons and formed a mutant team of his own, under the leadership of Emma Frost. Alison got her record deal and therefor joined the team, but the team got disbanded rather quickly after they got attacked by a Sentinel on the day the mutant team was introduced by the president to the media. After the incident with the Sentinel, Charles Xavier invited Emma and her team to stay at the school. And although Emma and Alex Summers left the school shortly after, Alison remained with the X-Men. (Ultimate X-Men 42-45)

When Mister Sinister was hunting for mutants and killing them in name of Lord Apocalypse, the senior X-Men went after him. By the time they discovered his whereabouts, Mister Sinister was already at the Institute. After taking out the professor and Iceman, Mister Sinster was almost able to kill Angel, but unfortunately for Sinister, Alison came to Angel’s rescue. But Alison became reckless, when she tried to finish Sinister on her own, and ended up as Sinister’s hostage. In the end, Rogue was able to free Alison. (Ultimate X-Men 48-49)

During a trip to Coney Island, Colossus and Alison ended up in a private conversation, in which Alison uttered her conviction that Charles Xavier used his brain tricks to force her to leave her band and to join the X-Men. It was also during that conversation that her callsign 'Dazzler' was used for the first time, although Alison wanted to be named by her real name. (Ultimate X-Men 50)

Some time later, while watching a live web cast from the small island nation of Krakoa, located off the coast of Genosha, the X-Men witnessed a mutant named Longshot being hunted in a game to the death. This was his punishment after being convicted of a capital crime on one of Genosha's politicians. Charles verified the authenticity of the broadcast, and sent a team of X-Men to Genosha to determine if Longshot was indeed guilty. Without Charles' knowledge, a second team consisting of Angel, Nightcrawler, Colossus and Dazzler, who persuaded the other three to go, also left for Krakoa, fearing Longshot would be killed by the time the first team of X-Men completed their investigation. When the X-Wing had landed on Krakoa, Dazzler, Colossus and Nightcrawler went in search for Longshot, while Angel staid with the X-Wing. During their search, the three X-Men came eye to eye with one of Longshot’s hunters, Arcade. Although the X-Men fought him, it was Longshot, who took Arcade out. After their encounter with Arcade, the X-Men and Longshot decided to return to the X-Wing, but once there they found out that Angel got captured by Mojo Adams, the organizer of the hunting game. Mojo informed them that they could have him back unharmed in trade for Longshot. In the end, the three X-Men and Longshot were able to free Angel and it was Dazzler, who took out Mojo personally. The four X-Men headed back to the school, where they were reprimanded by the professor, who wanted to expel the mastermind behind their trip to Krakoa. Just as Dazzler was about to confess, Angel took the blame. Luckily, Charles didn't expel him. Charles felt that Angel had already suffered more than enough. The group left Charles' office and after Angel explained why he took the fall for Dazzler, Dazzler kissed him and the two became a couple. (Ultimate X-Men #54-57)

When Lorna Dane had been wrongfully imprisoned at Triskelion, her boyfriend Alex Summers decided to break her out with the help of their friends. Charles Xavier sent in his X-Men to stop Scott's brother and ordered Dazzler and Angel not to get involved. But under Dazzler's influence, Angel flew them both to Triskelion. As Angel and Dazzler wandered around the complex they were suddenly surprised when Magneto, who had planned to frame Lorna as a means to escape his prison cell, destroyed the prison security system. Before Angel and Dazzler knew it, Deathstrike was freed from her cell, after which she stabbed Dazzler. Dazzler ended up in a coma. (Ultimate X-Men #61-65)

During her coma, Nightcrawler visited her frequently, because he felt like Alison was the only person that he got left, after Kurt found out that Peter was gay and after Angel transferred to Emma Frost’s school. When Dazzler eventually came out of her coma, Nightcrawler kidnapped Alison and brought her to a cave. There, he made up a story that the X-Men got attacked and that the two of them had to wait there until they would hear from the professor. Meanwhile, Alison’s disappearance from the hospital didn’t go unnoticed at the Institute. During a meeting, which Nightcrawler also attended, the X-Men decided to go and search for Dazzler. But Nightcrawler made the mistake to attend the meeting, because Wolverine and the professor discovered that Nightcrawler had something to do with Alison’s disappearance. After Shadowcat rescued Alison from the cave, Nightcrawler started to attack his teammates. In the end, Alison and Colossus were able to defeat him, after which Kurt declared his love for her.

After the X-Men returned to the school, Charles Xavier secured Nightcrawler in the infirmary. He explained to the X-Men that he put psychic barriers, that would keep Kurt from regaining consciousness. When Charles informed the X-Men that he was going to treat Kurt’s mental illness, in the hope that Kurt could resume his activities in the school some day, Dazzler couldn’t believe what she was hearing, after what he did to her. In the end Alison decided to quit the X-Men. ( Ultimate X-Men 70, 72 – Ultimate X-Men Annual 2)

Dazzler has the mutant power to convert sound into light, which she can use as a weapon. She can display the light as fireworks or she can fire it as arrows in various colors. If Dazzler wants to, she can even temporarily blind people.
