A long time ago, Mystique was in love with Charles Xavier, until he dumped her for Emma Frost. A few months after the incident, Emma got a cat and begged Charles to keep it. Just after Charles agreed to it, they found the cat covered with shredded papers on Charles’ desk. At the sight of this, Emma came up with the name ‘Mystique’ for it. (Ultimate X-Men Annual #2)
Mystique played a key role in Magneto’s plan to escape out of the Triskelion. Together with Forge, she placed an electromagnetic field generator under a manhole cover in Chicago. Later on, a building near the manhole cover was deliberately set on fire. When Polaris showed up and used her powers to reinforce the building’s steel underframe, the generator was activated. As a result, the magnetic fields were altered, which made Polaris lose control over her powers. Believing that Polaris was guilty, she was sent to the Triskelion, where she shared the cell with Magneto.
That same night of the fire, when Mystique and Forge went back to pick up the generator, the two were caught by a policewoman, but Mystique killed her instantly. Meanwhile, Polaris’ boyfriend Alex Summers gathered his friends and travelled to New York to break his girlfriend out of the Triskelion. During the fight between Alex’ team with the X-Men and the Ultimates, Mystique and Forge used the oppurtunity to reach the Triskelion unnoticed. After they killed a few dozen soldiers, they were able to reach Magneto’s cell, where Mystique was reunited with her lover. Once Magneto was freed from his plastic cell, Mystique disguised herself as Magneto and confronted the X-Men, while Magneto sneaked out through the sewers with the help of Longshot. Mystique got captured and was able to fool everybody in believing that she was the real Magneto. (Ultimate X-Men #62-65)
Later, Magneto sent Mastermind to the Triskelion to take Mystique’s place. (Ultimate X-Men #81)
Mystique is a mutant metamorph. She can cause herself to look like an exact duplicate of any human of either sex, wearing virtually any kind of clothing. However, Mystique cannot duplicate the powers of the person she imitates She can also transform herself into horrific-looking creatures.
