First Appearance: The Intimates #1
Known Relatives: Travis Duke (father), Matilda Duke (sister)
Known Allies: Punchy
Eyes: Blue
Before joining the student body at the Seminary, Henry Duke already had a few secrets. His sister Matilda had been involved in an ‘accident’ that physically scarred her, and to keep the social services from taking her away, his quasi-abusive father Travis locked her in a storage room behind their trailer. Henry felt guilty at leaving his deformed sister behind to join a school for superheroes.
Near the beginning of the school year, however, The Duke received a pleasant surprise in the form of a surprise lecture from Desmond, the sidekick to Henry’s role model Mr. Majestic. Excited by this encounter, he was easily convinced by Punchy to sneak out and visit Mr. Majestic’s Rushmore Sanctuary. Sadly, despite his best intentions, a quick cure for his constipation kept him from going, leading a night of talking instead of adventuring.
Later, Punchy asked Duke to investigate whether or not the anonymous, romantic text messages he was receiving were Destra’s. Due to his tactless approach, Destra refused to answer, and went so far as to threaten him with her exploding fingernails. Soon after, Destra approached Duke at the school dance, leaving best friend Punchy feeling betrayed.
Punchy seemingly forgave him, however, when the duo teamed up with Empty Vee and Destra to find out what would happen if Sykes’ null-shield was turned off. Vee snuck into Sykes’ room and shut off the machine, and the entire school was plunged into a psychodrama. Vee and Duke hallucinated that they were watching Sykes’ parents die. Duke suffered a nervous breakdown, where he admitted his darker feelings towards people beneath his shy exterior. Vee was left to comfort him until Kefong activated the null-shield again. Duke was among one of the few who remembered the incident.
At the end of the school year, Destra attempted to recruit Duke as an aide in discovering the grisly secrets of the school. He turned her down, already terrified of the job he’d just taken – a superhero on the fast track to being a president. He didn’t make the cut, however, when a secret mission ended in the death rather than capture of an international supervillain. Discharged from the program, Henry returned home.
Behind his home on a beer run with his cousin, the car was suddenly stopped, and Henry saw a UFO. This strange experience pervaded his thoughts, and when he returned to the Seminary he asked for a transfer to an astrological program.
As a Seminary student, Henry Duke is a top athlete with enhanced strength and a level of invulnerability.
