Meanwhile, Lex Luthor gathers Black Adam, Calculator, Deathstroke, Doctor Light, Doctor Psycho, and Talia Head as the inner circle of The Society and conspire with many other villains against the heroes. Blue Beetle's mystical scarab takes him to the wizard Shazam, who warns him of things to come. Meanwhile, the spacefaring Adam Strange calls for help from the JLA to help in the brewing war between Rann and Thanagar. Blue Beetle heads alone to follow a lead and stumbles upon a secretive operations run by Checkmate that seems to have complete files of the world's heroes and metahumans. Former Justice League sponsor Maxwell Lord reveals himself to be one of its leaders and gives Blue Beetle an ultimatum to join them or die. He rejects Max's offer and is killed.

Day of Vengeance #1: Jean Loring, ex-wife of Ray Palmer (The Atom) and the revealed killer behind the Identity Crisis murder mystery, is seduced by the dark god Eclipso into being his next host. Sasha secretly sends a message to Batman letting him know of these events.
