It is the 1st January 1900, London, England. A baby girl is born, one that would be key in shaping the events of the next century. This Baby was called Jennifer Sparks, The Spirit of the 20th Century, and the latest incarnation in a long line of Jenny's, Guardians of the period they are placed in.

Around the age 13 Jenny was living in Berlin, Germany where she gained her education. It is around this time that she met and befriended a young artist going by the name of Adolf Hitler. Jenny had already developed her rather forward frankness towards people. Pointing out that maybe art is not the way forward for young Adolf, Jenny highlighted his strong patriotic streak and his talent for oration, suggesting that maybe he should consider a future in Local Government. Jenny lost contact with Adolf eventually as she moved on.

Later Jenny appeared to now be seeking a life of adventure. In 1920 her body stopped physically aging. Jenny was caught up in England around the time when the Bleed first appeared (a rip in time and space, a door way to various alternate realities) and the invention of the shift ships that would use the bleed as a means to travel to alternate realities. Here Jenny first encountered a parallel England, known as Sliding Albion. Jenny frequently visited this reality, eventually marrying one Prince Lorenzo Antonio Slzfi. Needless to say he was intended for another and news of the marriage was not welcomed warmly by Jenny's new father in-law. The marriage appeared to be mainly political, one that would help Lorenzo overthrow his tyrant of a father. With the Bleed quickly closing, Jenny just managed to return to her own dimension before the door shut. Before doing so she killed Lorenzo's father before being rescued by members of the British Space Group. Jenny was yet to join the British Space Group.

Jenny then spent the 1930's fighting crime in America before enlisting as an agent for the British Government in the 1940's, during the war with Germany. It was around this time as a government agent Jenny once again met with her childhood friend Adolf. Jenny had been commissioned by the British Government to find a mysterious Tibetan Egg. She was captured by the Nazis and brought with the egg before Dr Goebbels for experimentation. Before her genes could be spliced into Super Nazis, she met Adolf again while being transferred to a different facility. Hitler gave her an immediate pardon and allowed her and the egg safe passage to England while wishing her a happy brithday.

Jenny returned to England and spent the 1950's there. She joined the British Space Group organization and during her tenure with the agency met Lord Emp who appeared to be masquerading as Agent Baxter from the USA. Soon after this, she returned to Sliding Albion, which was embroiled in an internal war. The people of Sliding Albion tried to divert a Bacterial agent into Jenny's reality. On its way through the Bleed the bacterial agents mutated and instead of arriving as a lethal agent it became the catalyst for many of the superpowers that were awakend amongst English civillians. Although never confirmed, it is believed that Sliding Albion wiped themselves out during the civil war, Jenny herself escaped unharmed.

In the 1960s Jenny founded and led a team of superheroes. The team was short lived though after being assigned to act as security at a Music Festival. When one member, Able Eternity, had his masculinity brought into question by a group of revellers he overdosed on drugs to prove his own masculinity. The result was an uncontrolled rampage resulting in civilian deaths. Jenny fearing more civilian deaths if she waited for the other team members to arrive noticed the stage generators and unwillingly reached out and electrocuted him. Although Jenny was hailed a hero she took this badly and the group soon fizzled out.

By the onset of the 1980's Jenny was once again resident in the United Kingdom dealing with the children who appeared to have gained special powers from the fallout of Sliding Albion. The new super beings were itching to show their worth and a young group searched out Jenny and persuaded her to lead/teach them. During this time, Jenny was investigating the strange disappearance of young infants for no apparent reason. While investigating these serial kidnappings Jenny stumbled upon a document regarding one of one of her former team mates, a man who went by the codename Firesign. It's unclear what this document indicated but it led Jenny to sneak into his apartment where she was confronted by the sight of a clearly disturbed woman holding an almost Frankenstein like baby. The woman revealed herself as the wife of Firesign. The fallout from Sliding Albion that had given these people their powers also made them sterile. Clearly this was the catalyst for Firesign's wife's fall into madness, which led him to kidnap and mutilate the children in the hope that this perfect baby would somehow cure her. Sickened by the events, Jenny dealt with the situation by handing the couple over to the authorities with the warning of execution if she saw them again.

After this revelation Jenny gave up on the superhero lifestyle and instead spent most of the 1980's drunk and enjoying a rather causal approach to relationships. This all changed with a meeting with a Henry Bendix (Weatherman 1 of Stormwatch). Bendix persuaded Jenny to join his newly revamped team as the leader of Stormwatch: Black the undercover unit of the team. Jenny was grouped with the heroes Swift and Jack Hawksmoor. She worked with the covert team until Bendix's true intentions were finally revealed, and that he had in fact betrayed the Stormwatch program. An embittered Jenny removed Bendix by force from Skywatch satellite, and months later, tracked him down and killed him for treason, finally paying him back for all the deaths he had caused for the sake of his Finer World. Jenny and her team then remained undercover staying out of contact with the remaining groups and were not present when her fellow team mates met their end on an Alien infested Skywatch.

In 1999, Jenny is nearly a hundred years old, and nearing the end of her life. Jenny still felt the world needed heroes and so set about her final task, the formation of a group of heroes who would be know as The Authority. Their first mission as the Authority saw the team take on the threat posed by Kaizen Gamorra after he launches a superhuman strike on key cities around the world. Their mission was a success and no sooner have they completed it than it was revealed that Sliding Albion had not been wiped out after all. Sliding Albion instead launched an all out assault on Jenny's reality, in an attempt to save their race from extinction. Sliding Albion was dying and they saw Jenny's reality as the only viable alternative, albeit with them ruling the reality! Again the Authority easily defeated them.

By December 1999 Jenny was aware she was soon to be embarking on her final mission. The Authority headed into space where Jenny was forced to go up against her most powerful adversary to date, God. It appeared Earth was nothing more than some form of Holiday home, one that God has not visited for some time. In his absence sentient life has evolved. God's return would mean the end to all life. So in Jenny's final moments before the turn of the century she used her collective might to electrocute the mind of God hence killing him instantly and thus saving her world. As Jenny slowly slipped away to the sounds of Big Ben welcoming in the new century, a child was born on the other side of the world in Singapore, Jenny Quantum, the Spirit of the 21st Century.

Although Jenny had passed on she was later brought back by Jenny Quantum when Jenny Q was trying to discover information about her past. Jenny Sparks told her successor that there were a myriad of Jenny's that spanned the history of mankind, each lasting for various periods of time. However, this may simply have been a result of Jenny Quantum's enormous power forming a reality she wanted to see. Whether Jenny will ever be able to return to life remains unclear.

Jenny Sparks is a highly talented fighter. She has been trained by a variety of government organisations in espionage, hand to hand combat and survival skills. She had an incredibly good memory capable of keeping a century's worth of memories and wisdom. Jenny's battle experience over the century also made her an incredibly skilled tactician. Jenny's nature as Spirit of the 20th century meant that she has total control over all forms of electricity. She is capable of using small voltages or larger voltages to form force fields, fire bolts or interact with machinery and biological electrical impulses. Jenny could also transport herself along currents of electricity at enormous speeds.
