When Destra was younger, she ditched her parents in favor of meeting her alien sweetheart at the beach, where they took a walk hand in hand. A few months after that encounter, her powers emerged.
After being expelled from multiple schools, Destra was sent to the Seminary, where she caused trouble from her first day. During their introductory lecture, she used her explosive fingernails to end class. Later, she tried to get Super-Sonic Espionage Boom comics banned from the school. Her attempt failed. She soon befriended Empty Vee, the overweight, insecure girl in her morality class.
Punchy, a classmate who’d developed a crush on her, sent his friend Duke to inquire about anonymous, romantic text messages he was receiving. Destra turned Duke away, dismissing him as an errand-boy. Knowing the messages were from Vee, Destra used Vee’s PDA to arrange an ill-fated meeting between Punchy and his secret admirer.
Destra later convinced her father to help her arrange a school dance in the simulation center. She developed a rivalry with Venus De Mighty, an older girl who attempted to take credit for the dance. Her attention turned to the shy Duke, however, whom she convinced to dance with her in front of a jealous Punchy.
Another boy in her class, Dead Kid Fred, developed a crush on her, but upon asking, she shot him down cruelly. Punchy confronted her, but the Duke pulled him away before Destra could hurt him.
Destra and Vee later teamed up with the Duke and Punchy in order to discover the nature of their classmate Sykes’ null-field. Vee shut off the field, and the entire school was plunged into a psychodrama. Destra dreamed that she’d come across a group of colorblind children who were suddenly assaulted by police-like figures. She was in the midst of fighting against the police when Kefong turned the null-field back on, recovering the school. Most of the people in the Seminary, including the teachers, forgot about the incident.
Towards the end of the school year, Destra attempted to get the Duke to help her uncover the secrets of the school. She brazenly followed him even into the men’s bathroom, but he turned her down. Infuriated, she allied herself with Vee instead.
Over the summer, she snuck into Punchy’s house as well. While there, she convinced Punchy to join her in trying to discover what the secret was about the Seminary's food. After her associate Arthur could not decipher the ingredients of the sample food, she and Punchy snuck into the Devonshire company to try to retrieve more information. The mission was aborted after Sparky attacked them and drove them out.
Destra has since returned to the Seminary and allied herself with Kefong.
As a Seminary student, Destra is a trained athlete. She also has the ability to make shards of her fingernails explode, as well as subconsciously maintaining a personal force field.
