Marvel have ruled hot favorite Daredevil out of contention, so who do you think Ronin the Mystery Avenger is?

I think its a completely new character, thats why I voted for Other.

I'm thinking Iron Fist, cause why not get him back with his old friend.

I think it's Shang Chi. The nunchaku gives it away.
However, I'm voting for OTher. It just seems wrong. It's going to be someone else.
Cat is a mercenary. He won't join the Avengers willingly without money.
Iron Fist is more likely. We've never really seen him with a nunchaku but the costume fits.
Why would Karnak join the Avengers? He stays with the Inhumans out of loyalty and courage. Unless he had to protect Crystal, he'd never join the Avengers. Wait! That's it!
Moon Knight seems logical. He has the weapons training but why would he wear a ninja suit and call himself Ronin?
Nick Fury is SHIELD trained. He doesn't have the skills. What's he doing with the Avengers anyway? He's needed on the Helicarrier.
Night Thrasher is logical. I'm not familiar with him but he seems to have the training.
Red Lotus is probably it. This happens every now and then. The underdeveloped character is the new one. It could work.
Shang Chi is most likely. He's nunchaku trained and a stealth spy.
Silver Samurai is a likely one only because of the Ronin tag.
Taskmaster wouldn't wear a generic costume. He'd wear his own. Same for the codename.
I think the Ronin tag is a personal history thing. I think the character is related to Wolverine, mainly because of Yukio who is probably still paralysed.
Either a new character or an old one that will "come out of left field".

I'd say Cat because I like him, and he recently made appearances in Cable & Deadpool, but then again, Nicieza likes his B-list villains, and the New Avenger will probably be someone more popular.
I think its a completely new character, thats why I voted for Other.
I did the same thing.

Haha. I had no idea who Night Thrasher was, so I Image Googled the name.. The first thing to pop up was the New Avengers cover with this "mystery character."

I'd love it if it was Night Thrasher, but I seriously doubt it. :cross:

No Matt Murdock option? I still reckon it's a chick. That'd be left field.

I can't believe I'm not the only person to vote for Night Thrasher. I also don't actually believe it will be him (especially since he's in the New Warriors mini-series coming out next week), but it would be extremely cool if it was.

I am betting all my chips on Bendis finally losing it all, and writing himself into a comic.
That suit, yeah, it is there to hold bendis's gut in!

Really imagine if he did that? He shouldn't even try that. Grant Morrison he is not.

Ronin: "Originally, a "wave person," or a masterless samurai who has left the service of his lord, either by choice or forced circumstances, and serves others with his bold and sometimes desperate deeds."
Who could this be describing, I hope Iron Fist :cross:

I'd rather they just brought MoonKnight onto the team and got rid of the Nunchuka geezer.
I'd rather Daredevil appeared as himself, as the new costume would be crap.

It's obviously Xorn, impersonating Magneto, pretending to be a mystery Avenger because of Wanda's powers.
I mean, duh.

I have no idea who this could be, and I'm getting to the point where I don't even care anymore. I mean, why put him on covers months before he's even going to appear? Is he supposed to draw people to the book?
I'll wait and see. Could someone fill me in on the options for the poll? I don't even know who half of them are.
superzeroe
Jun 5, 2005, 02:27 am
hey, Greg. i'll try my hand at explaining the different options as best i can before someone inevitably comes around to do a better job :
the Cat is a mercenary who is has perfected nearly all the martial arts.
Iron Fist has partnered on and off for years with pal, Luke Cage, as a "hero for hire."
Karnak, sorry, all i know is he is an Inhuman. of course, so was Crystal and she was an Avenger, so i suppose it's a possibility...
depending on who's writing him, Moon Knight flucatates between a third rate Avenger reservist, a mercenary given a second chance at life by an Egyptian God, or a poor man's version of Batman.
Nick Fury, is well, yeah, he's Nick Fury. i have no idea why he's even a suspect....
Night Thrasher spent his life training himself in martial arts to fight crime after watching his parents die. so, yeah, maybe he should be the poor man's Batman. anyway, he led the New Warriors for most the books' duration.
i believe Red Lotus is in reference to Claremont's character that debuted in X-Treme X-Men awhile back. not sure why he's a suspect either...
Shang Chi is Marvel's original martial artist. he was all the rage back in the day. most recently ( i think) was teamed with the awkaward arrangement of heroes that were referred to as the Marvel Knights (the team, not the imprint)
Silver Samurai is best known as an X-Villain. he's related to the Yashida (sp) clan, is, i believe the only samruia on the list. could be wrong.
and TaskMaster, a villain in Avengers, and hilarious foil in Deadpool/Agent X, has powers (don't know how/why) that allow him to imititate any movement he sees. hence, he can fight like anyone.

I think Bendis has better taste than red lotus.

Karnak is a member of the Inhuman royal family
He is a master martial artist with the ability to see the "flaws" in something... mostly used to know exactly where to strike in order to bring someone or something down... but he's often shown to see the flaws in peoples logic around him. Hes often depicted as very cold and unemotional compared to the normal inhumans. He's feircely loyal to Black Bolt and usually serves as his cousin's body gaurd. Why he'd be on the Avengers? well his powers are really powerful if you think about it. And he might be a ronin if he left the service of his King... and he likes the color green... but then again... He'd be a left feild choice... more likely a new character or a serverly under-utilized character that Bendis likes... like Shang-Chi or Iron Fist... both better fit the depictions on the covers... though why Danny Rand would change his costume to that?...

I really don't care. I think they went about it wrong with the "marketing." I'm hoping it's Silver Samurai, because it would make sense in a literal kind of way.
They ruled out Daredevil but not Matt Murdock.

It could very well be a new character, though I would have to question that, given that there are so many worthy characters out there who are currently not in use.
But Marvel has a bizarre marketing strategy… so who knows? ;)

I have to admit, I don't get the whole "He said it's not Daredevil, but it could still be Matt Murdock" thing. Aren't we splitting hairs slightly?

It just means that maybe, Daredevil will fake his death and have a new Identity as Ronin. But my money is still on Shang-Chi, you heard it here first people.

It's Marvel. They do those kinds of things to CYA. It's like when you were 10 and you bet your friend 10 bucks that you could dunk on a ten foot goal, and then you go and pull out a ladder and dunk it.

Matt's killed himself off twice already. He's got to stop resorting to suicide. Being a Catholic, that's never a good thing ;)
And let's face it, if this is Matt under that get up, he should go back to that awesome black and red Daredevil suit (it ruled, no joking here) instead of this ninja outfit.

well, since i still think it could be Matt Murdock but he's not an option, i'll say Iron Fist on a lark.

I voted Moon Knight for two reasons:
Marvel was hyping the crap out of the character a short while ago and other than a Team-Up I haven't seen much use made of him; and,
He is Bat-like and the New Avengers are JLAish so it seems an obvious choice for the team (and I'm a sucker for the obvious).

Well, I put my vote for Silver Samurai. Why, you ask? Simple:
At Wizard World East a couple weeks ago I was in line to get Mr. Claremont's autograph and another fan was asking him if he had plans for Silver Samurai. Mr. Claremont replied that he indeed wanted to use Silver Samurai on his X-Team, but was vetoed by upper management.
Usually upper management/editors veto a second string character because there are already future plans for said character.
And, since Bendis has already used Silver Samurai in his first Elektra arc, it stands to reason he might use him again.
Just my :2c:

Actually, Joey Q related in his Cup O' Joe panel at Wizard World East Philly that Moon Knight would be coming back, but it would be "old school" Moon Knight. Even the costume would be "old school."

My guess is the Black Panther. I don't know, this new guys outfit is kind of cat-like. He also gives that Batman-ish vibe that someone mentioned earlier.
