Profile: The second team known as the Invaders were formed by a shadow cabinet within the American government. This cabinet was created by the villain mastermind Red Skull when he was impersonating as “Dell Rusk”, the Secretary of Defense. The Red Skull’s plan was to have Thin Man build him a powerful battleship using Kalahian technology and then to steal it. Dell Rusk’s idenity was revealed by the Avengers but the Invaders still had to face the Axis Mundi, a terrorist organization created by the Red Skull. The Invader managed to prevent the Axis Mundi’s plans to sink the surface world beneath the waves but lost several members in that incident.

History: When the late villain mastermind Red Skull was impersonating as “Dell Rusk”, the Secretary of Defense of the U.S., he contacted Thin Man and recruited him to develop a warship using advanced Kalahian technology and to create an elite strike force, the new Invaders, composed of operatives selected by Rusk himself. The warship and the Invaders were to be countermeasures to the global terrorist network called the Axis Mundi that used stolen Kalahian technology. The Axis Mundi was in truth created by the Red Skull himself and the Axis Mundi planned to steal the new battleship for their own use.

The U.S.Agent was one of the people chosen to become an Invader. He was given the name Captain America, which he used for some time, and helped organize the team. Other members included Spitfire, Union Jack and the synthezoid Tara, who was secretly programmed by the Axis Mundi to gain the confidence of the others and then eliminate them. These four operatives then freed the Blazing Skull from a Saudi prison and were joined by him. The Invaders were sanctioned by the U.S. and British governments.

The Axis Mundi had replaced Hassan, the leader of the oil-rich dictator state called Mazikhandar in the Middle East, with a synthetic replica. This replica then ordered the Mazikhandarian navy to sink APEL oil tankers in order to control to flow of oil to the U.S. These oil tankers unluckily sank in Atlantean waters, killing Atlanteans with the spillage. The Invaders assisted Namor and his Atlantean troops against the Mazikhandarian navy and thus gained their help in overthrowing the Mazikhandarian government.

Thin Man had made a deal with Mazikhandarian General Dauod Rafiq to give him the control of the country if he gave the synthetic Hassan to them in return. Despite the intervention of the U.N. sanctioned Avengers, the Invaders and their allies overthrew Hassan, but he was quickly shot by Rafiq. The Atlantean Monarchy then forced an alliance with Mazikhandar and mate it a protectorate of the Atlantean throne. The Atlantean Sulumor was installed as Atlantean advisor to Mazikhandar and Rafiq was prosecuted for “Hassan’s” murder.

Thin Man convinced the organization known as the V-Battalion to work with them and gave them an access to their operation in Mazikhandar. At this point Thin Man claimed that the Invaders were a network of covert cells and their allies included Red Raven’s sky island, Blue Diamond, Aarkus the Vision, Nomad (Jack Monroe) and the Mighty Destroyer, former leader of the V-Battalion. Thin Man offered the V-Battalion’s leader, the Torch, the position of the Invaders’ tactical leader, a position so far held by U.S.Agent. The Torch stayed with the Invaders but didn’t yet promise to accept the position.

The Invaders were able to catch one of the Pretorists, the Axis Mundi’s synthetic army that had been attacking Mazikhandar at regular intervals. The Invaders took this specimen to the Battleship Infiltrator, their new ocean-going fortress, whose crew included Admiral Peter Noble and Nia Noble. The Pretorist had a hidden homing beacon within its carapace and the Battleship Infiltrator was attacked by the Axis Mundi. Sixteen members of Infiltrator’s crew died before Thin Man succeeded in gaining access to the Pretorist’s system and forced the Axis Mundi’s flash-transit engines to take them back to their broadcast locations. Thin Man recorded the Axis Mundi’s transit signatures, so the Axis Mundi could no longer access sub-dimensional space without alerting the Invaders.

Subsequently Spitfire, Union Jack, the Torch and Tara journeyed to England to assist the Mighty Destroyer, who actually had allied himself with the Invaders, against the vampire Baroness Blood of the Axis Mundi. Baroness Blood was able to kidnap her “mother-in-law”, Spitfire, but she was soon freed by her teammates. The Blazing Skull, Namor and U.S.Agent joined the U.S., British and Atlantean troops in Mazikhandar and destroyed the Pretorists factories in Mazikhandar. These troops had been shielding Mazikhandar from Pretorist attacks for months.

The Axis Mundi necromancer Professor Jonas Eckhardt was apprehended in Mazikhandar in spite of the assassination attempt by Wolverine, brainwashed by the criminal organization known as Hydra at the time. Nia Noble, using her telepathy, forced Eckhardt to resurrect Agent Axis, an ally of the Axis Mundi and the Pretorists’ template. Thin Man questioned him and found out about the Axis Mundi’s plans to detonate a thermonuclear warhead in Antarctica.

The Torch agreed to take the position of the team’s tactical leader until the Axis Mundi threat had been contained. The Torch had learnt that the Invaders didn’t have as many allies as Thin Man had claimed, so he contacted the real Captain America. Captain America came to Infiltrator and requested the Thin Man to remove himself from his leadership role in the Invaders. Thin Man agreed but he vanished with the Battleship when Captain America and the rest of the Invaders were fighting the Axis Mundi’s Meranno in Antartica.

Meranno forced Tara to follow her programming and initialize an incendiary device within her to fuel Meranno’s doomsday weapon. Thin Man returns after making certain that all Infiltrator’s crew as well as prisoners had been transported to safety and rams the warhead with Infiltrator, destroying both of them. Tara isn’t able to shut down before her core would erupt so the Torch absorbs the heat from her. This leaves Tara disabled and Torch with too much energy, which causes him to explode in the sky.

After the Torch’s death the Invaders took temporary headquarters in Dymhurst, U.K., but the current status of the Invaders is unknown, with Thin Man missing, the Torch dead, Tara disabled and Namor capturing the renegade Atlanteans.

The Battleship Infiltrator was capable of travelling through sub-dimensional space and was invisible to all known surveillance. Infiltrator could open sub-dimensional surveillance portals anywhere on Earth and it was armed with tactical missiles capable of dropping entire cities to sub-dimensional space. The battleship was approximately 2400 feet post to post with a standard displacement of only 120,300 tons. Her average cruising speed is in excess of 100 knots and she carried four fully functional duragen stratoplanes equipped with sub-dimensional flash-transit capabilities, which allowed the Battleship Infiltrator to travel anywhere on Earth in a matter of minutes. The day-to-day operations onboard Infiltrator were taken care by Admiral Peter Noble, his wife Nia Noble and the other crew.
