Profile: Upon the death of Charles Xavier, Erik Lensherr vowed to make his friend's dream of peace between humans and mutants a reality. Starting from Wundagore Mountain, Erik, now called Magneto, started a school to train mutants to use their powers properly. From these students the X-Men were formed. This team of heroes would carry Magneto and Xavier's ideals and combat the forces led by the ancient mutant Apocalypse. Throughout the years, the X-Men clashed numerous times with Apocalypse and his constantly growing army. Despite their efforts, the X-Men were unable to halt his conquest of North America and his ravages on the rest of the world. They were forced into hiding, and moved from location to location until they reached the Dead Zone, which was formerly Westchester, New York. From there, in Xavier's old home, the X-Men continued to fight Apocalypse's regime and would end his reign of terror in any way possible, and at any cost.

History: In the early days of the X-Men, they lived and trained at Wundagore Mountain. During one of their sessions, Magneto introduced them to two new recruits: Weapon X and Rogue. During the newcomers' orientation, Magneto received word of an attack on Cape Citadel from Apocalypse and his Horsemen. Magneto led the X-Men into their first of many battles with the Horsemen, while Rogue and the Scarlet Witch remained behind. The X-Men managed to overcome the Horsemen, which later resulted in the former Horseman Sabretooth joining them. Their victory did not come without a price, as they returned home to find it destroyed by Nemesis, and the Scarlet Witch killed.

As the years went by, the X-Men battled Apocalypse as he caused untold death and destruction around the world. During one of their struggles, Jean Grey was captured by Prelate Scott Summers, and later rescued by Weapon X. Weapon X blamed Magneto for leaving Jean behind and they quit the X-Men. Gambit left the X-Men soon after when Rogue and Magneto became close. Later, with the help of the new X-Man Blink, the X-Men traveled to the moon to try and destroy Apocalypse. Apocalypse escaped, but the X-Men destroyed his ship and the Horseman Death. There, they also rescued Sunfire, who soon joined their ranks.

Later, when Apocalypse had completely dominated what's left of North America, the X-Men rescued a stranger named Bishop from the Infinites. From him, the X-Men discovered that the world they lived had replaced one where Apocalypse's tyranny never occurred. While Magneto dispatched other mutant groups to confirm Bishop's words, the X-Men continued to oppose Apocalypse nonetheless.

The X-Men divided into two groups to hold off Apocalypse's forces, while their allies searched for the means of altering their reality. One team, led by Rogue, went to stop the Cullings carried out by the Horseman Holocaust, and the other team, headed by Quicksilver, aided the humans in evacuating to Europe. Rogue's team managed to halt the Cullings and fought Holocaust and his Infinites near Indianapolis. Though the X-Men nearly lost Sabretooth, they managed to destroy Holocaust's Infinite processing plant, and forced the Horseman to retreat.

Quicksilver's X-Men arrived in Maine to help the Sentinels in transporting as many humans as possible. They were intercepted by the Madri's Brotherhood, who had reprogrammed the Sentinels against them. The X-Men managed to overcome the odds when Exodus had slain most of the Brotherhood, and Storm disrupted the Sentinels' systems. While his X-Men undone the Brotherhood's control of the Sentinels, Quicksilver encountered and defeated the new Horseman Abyss. Upon returning home, the X-Men found it to be destroyed, and Magneto, his son Charles and Bishop were missing. Quicksilver spilt up his team to find the others and he, Storm and Banshee went to the Madri stronghold in Quebec to retrieve Bishop. They were successful in saving Bishop, but their second run-in with Abyss caused Banshee to sacrifice his life against the Horseman. Dazzler and Exodus were sent to the sewers to find Charles Lensherr. Though unable to find him, the two X-Men returned with the surviving X-Ternals who knew of his whereabouts.

With what remained of their allies, the X-Men staged their last fight with Apocalypse at his citadel. While holding off the Infinites, the X-Men's plan to send Bishop back in time worked. As Bishop corrected the timeline, the X-Men finally ended Apocalypse's oppression. When reality was restoring itself, the X-Men Blink and Sabretooth were transported through the timestream and joined separate dimension-hopping teams.

I don't think Forge was ever a member...more like an associate of Magneto's.

The Age of Apocolypse remains to this day one of the coolest storylines in X-Men continuity. With next year being the 10 year anniversary of said event, hopefully they will do something to bring it back, even briefly.

I agree, plus there's a lot of time between X-Men Chronicles #1 and Apocalypse's full rise to power to fill in. Not to mention between Xavier's death and Apocalypse's attack on Cape Citadel

I personally hope they stay true to the AOA continuity and not make a brand new comic series and slap the AOA name on it like they did with the 2099. Maybe I should write a letter to Marvel....
