During the era when the Sentinels controlled the mutant population, Wolverine was a nomad. He believed that his foster daughter Amiko died years ago until he received a picture of her alive. Wolverine searched for her in Moscow when he was ambushed by Midnight and Psylocke of the Hellfire Club. Suffering a psychic assault by Psylocke, Wolverine regressed to an animal-like state and attacked Jubilee and Magneto when they found him. Wolverine was restrained by the duo and taken to Emma Frost, who mended his mind back together.

Mentally healed, Wolverine joined Magneto and Jubilee's mission to destroy the Hellfire Club's Cataclysm Engine and rescue the Scarlet Witch. Reaching the Club's headquarters at the Hoover Dam, Wolverine fought Midnight, who then revealed herself as Amiko and nearly killed him. Following his near death encounter with Amiko, Wolverine was surprisingly rescued by his foster daughter. Working together, and along with the other X-Men, Wolverine and Amiko destroyed the Cataclysm Engine and saved the Scarlet Witch. Wolverine then had to save Magneto, who was crippled by the collapsing dam. Afterwards, Wolverine learned that Amiko was originally sent by the Japanese Empire to infiltrate the Hellfire Club and stop their machinations.

Some time later, Wolverine would aid the X-Men who were captured by the Sentinels. He provided them with the necessary equipment to make their escape. Following the X-Men's freedom, Wolverine joined them in attacking the Sentinels' main headquarters at the Baxter Building. At the beginning of the X-Men's assault, Wolverine was blasted by a Sentinel until only his adamantium-covered skeleton remained.
