When the Sentinels controlled the world, Baron Zemo was a subordinate for the Master Mold Sentinels and led a military unit called the Thunderbolts. He despised working for the machines and worked in secret with the Hellfire Club to overthrow them.
Baron Zemo and his Thunderbolts captured Synch and Leech of the X-Men, and their ally Charlotte Jones. He then arrived to the Hellfire Club with the prisoners at the Hoover Dam, where the Cataclysm Engine was ravaging the world. When the other X-Men assaulted their base and freed the captives, Baron Zemo was knocked out by Synch, who had mimicked Psylocke's powers. It is unknown if Zemo survived the destruction of the Hoover Dam.
