Profile: While most mutants have to deal with constant prejudices, others tend to make the most of the situation and use their abilities for fame. Selling their services as heroes and having it televised, the team once known as X-Force and now X-Statix has become one of the most popular groups in the world. Their actions are recorded by the enigmatic Doop, and Spike Freeman owned the team until his death. Their successes never came without a price, as the missions they take are very deadly, and are often met with casualties. This doesn't stop X-Statix from being popular, or the sales from their gift shops from dropping. While trying to be heroes, the members of X-Statix continued to promote their celebrity status and try to reach new heights in stardom. In the end prior to executing their decision of disbanding, the entire team of X-Statix was killed in their last mission.
History: Wanting to bring in new recruits, the Coach conspired with the team's leader Zeitgeist to have most of team killed while rescuing the pop band Boyz R Us. X-Force took the mission, after acquiring the new member, the Anarchist. As the Coach had planned, most of X-Force was killed, including Zeitgeist. Following the massacre, the survivors Doop, U-Go Girl and the Anarchist were introduced to the latest recruits and their new leader, the Orphan.
Under the Orphan's leadership, X-Force's new mission was to rescue the boy, Paco Perez, from the country of Bastrona. Upon entering Bastrona, and fighting the country's army, X-Force lost two of its new members, Bloke and Saint Anna. They rescued young Perez, but the Orphan feared how some major corporations would exploit the boy. And sent him to an orphanage in Argentina. Orphan's decision did not sit well with the Coach, and he arranged to have him murdered. The Coach worked with U-Go Girl to have the Orphan eliminated, but she reconsidered and was assaulted by the Coach. She was saved by the Orphan and Wolverine, and the Coach was killed.
While continuing their line of work, X-Force got a new teammate known as the Spike. The mutant Lacuna also wanted to join X-Force, but instead became a talk show host. After a trip inside Doop's mind and a mission in Central America, X-Force was informed that the team's name had to be changed due to legal matters from the previous X-Force.
As they considered a new name for X-Force, the team recruited Dead Girl, and was sent to an orbiting space station by the CIA. In space, X-Force was to eliminate the genetically altered criminals called the Bush Rangers. After a few skirmishes with the Bush Rangers, CIA Agent Wright set X-Force up to be killed in revenge for the Orphan taking away Paco Perez. Wright, his strike team and the Bush Rangers were defeated by X-Force afterwards until they discover a Bush Ranger impersonated the Spike. They manage to kill the imposter, but not before he murdered the original and U-Go Girl. After these events, X-Force had its name changed to X-Statix.
Soon after the team got a new name, they also got a new member, the teleporter Venus Dee Milo. X-Statix also made a new enemy in Arnie Lundberg, a former fan who blamed the Orphan for U-Go Girl's death. After a brief break-up and Venus being released from her contract with Solomon O'Sullivan, X-Statix freed the town Arnie held hostage and saved their competitors, O-Force. The Orphan reasoned with Arnie to stop his reign of terror, but Arnie made him become a member of X-Statix. Fearing that Arnie joining them would cause a public uproar, the team had him wear a mask and dubbed him as Mysterious Fan Boy. Arnie's identity was later exposed by Lacuna, and the Orphan had no choice but to have him killed. He arranged for Arnie to be poisoned and set it up to look like that he died saving X-Statix.
The truth behind Arnie Lundberg's death was eventually revealed by Lacuna, who killed Lundberg herself. The Orphan's place in X-Statix came into question, especially after being mistaken for the malevolent alien known as Bad Guy, who suddenly appeared and was wreaking havoc. Though it was confirmed that the Orphan wasn't Bad Guy, he relinquished his role as team leader to the Anarchist, and went back to his former name, Mister Sensitive. Following Bad Guy's defeat, X-Statix found a potential new member known as El Guapo, who saved Mister Sensitive from Sharon Ginsberg and was originally meant to star in a movie about X-Statix.
Not long after El Guapo was recruited, X-Statix got their most popular member to date, the previously deceased pop singer Henrietta Hunter. The rest of the team didn't approve of how Henrietta was more of a hit than the rest of them, and plotted to kill her when they learned that she was to be their new leader. Lacuna arrived to stop them, and later, Henrietta was named the new U.S. Secretary of Homeland Defense to stop a series of random murders. When Lacuna threatened to expose X-Statix's work with Saddam Hussein and other shady dealings, Spike Freeman arranged for her to be a victim of the random killings. The Orphan broke the team owner's neck, but failed to stop Lacuna from being shot. The secrets she had on X-Statix were revealed and the only way they could save their reputation was to take down Mister Code, the man behind the random killings. X-Statix managed to bring an end to Mister Code's campaign of terror, but Phat and Henrietta Hunter were killed in the process.
Following Henrietta's death, people were mysteriously dying after singing one of her songs. One of the victims was El Guapo. X-Statix found a way to deal with this and had the president of Henrietta's home country Europa sing a line from the killer song, thus sealing his fate.
Later on, after Vivisector's brief departure from X-Statix, the team found themselves in Moscow to rescue Doop from Russian terrorists. To free Doop, X-Statix reluctantly asked the Avengers for their help. In the conflict against the terrorists, Doop's brain exploded. X-Statix then had to travel around the world and compete against the Avengers to obtain the fragments of Doop's brain. The two teams fought with individual members when they reach their objective, such as Anarchist against Captain America, Dead Girl and the Scarlet Witch, and Doop versus Thor. Both the Avengers and X-Statix managed to acquire pices of Doop's brain, but in the end, Mister Sensitive decided to hand over Doop to the Avengers. From this, Captain America sensed some nobility in the media-popular team and entrusted them with Doop instead. Folowing their clashes with the Avengers, X-Statix decided to split up to do solo projects.
While having a farewell party with other heroic teams, X-Statix was hired to do one last mission by a billionaire. Taking this job, X-Statix fought gunmen and helicopters similar to those that slaughtered their previous roster as X-Force. Just as before, X-Statix took a massive amount of casualties, and this time no one survived.
