Powers: Hyperion possesses a host of superhuman powers. He can levitate himself by mentally manipulating gravitons around himself. Hyperion possesses superhuman strength that enables him to lift approximately 75 tons. Through concentration, Hyperion can project beams of discrete energies from his brain through the optic nerves of his eyes. This atomic vision is capable of generating radioactivity in the X-ray range of the electromagnetic spectrum in addition to generating heat up to about 12,000 ºF. Hyperion's principal weakness is an isotope of lead vaslled argonite whose particles of decay serve to damper the quasi-nuclear reactions in his body. While in itself it cannot kill him, it can render him susceptible to other forms of injury.

On his homeworld, Hyperion destroyed all if his reality's superhumans, in addition to Thor, Hercules, and even Galactus. Because no one could stand against him, the humans tried to use nuclear weapons in an act of desperation. As a result, they destoryed their environment and their own atmosphere. From the outset of his tenure with Weapon X, the skeptical Hyperion chose to disobey the Timebroker's instructions and instead planned on staying in the world they were placed on and ruling the planet. Unbeknownst to Hyperion, Magneto deployed an asteroid set on a collision course with the planet and, when Hyperion was unable to stop it, Weapon X was forced to complete their mission and try to take over another world than this.

Now acting as the de facto leader of Weapon X, Hyperion debilitated those members that opposed his will. He and his renegade followers would continue their pursuit in the conquest of a world and eliminate virtually of the superhuman populace of another world before the Exiles were sent in to set things straight. Of the two teams and twelve people from Exiles and Weapon X on this world, only six would move on and the rest must die. Gambit, who managed to escape from Hyperion, joined the Exiles and together they devised a plan of action to incapacitate Hyperion. Although their strategy went awry, Blink would improvise and open up a portal to redirect Hyperion's Atomic Vision back at him, wounding him enough for Gambit to finish Hyperion off. The resulting explosion caused by Gambit igniting a massive amount of kinetic energy into Hyperion killed Gambit as well. At the end of this conflict, all members of Weapon X were dead.

In our reality, Hyperion is a superhuman being of unknown origin, who lives on the Earth of an alternate dimension, which is sometimes designated as "Other-Earth" or "Earth-S." He was found and adopted by a kindly couple, the Miltons, who instilled in Hyperion, whom they named Mark, a strong love of traditional American values and a passion for justice. Mark proved to have vast superhuman powers, which the Miltons encouraged him to use for the good of humanity. However, they cautioned him not to use his powers to change the course of human history, for they believed that humanity must ultimately solve its own problems. As in adult Mark Milton worked as a newspaper cartoonist in the city of Cosmopolis. He assumed the costumed and masked identity of Hyperion, taking the name from the Titan in Greek mythology who was associated with the sun, in order to use his superhuman powers to fight crime and to help save lives. Hyperion became a founding member of the Squadron Supreme, an organization of costumed champions. Hyperion and the Squadron Supreme would eventually visit our universe and interact with our Avengers on numerous occasions.

The Squadron Supreme was created as an homage to the DC Universe's Justice League. Hyperion is more or less the equivalent of Metropolis' own boy in blue, Superman. The story of the Squadron Supreme is currently being retold in Marvel's MAX series Supreme Power.
