In our reality, the young genius known only as the Gremlin is the son of the deceased Soviet scientist known as the Gargoyle, from whom he inherited his grotesque appearance and genius-level intelligence. The Soviet government told the Gremlin that the Hulk had killed his father. This vendetta ended with the Gremlin presumed dead. Before he revealed he was still alive, the Gremlin learned the truth about his father's death. The Hulk was Bruce Banner and Banner succeeded in restoring the Gargoyle to his original human form. The former Gargoyle then sought vengeance on his superiors responsible for making him the Gargoyle and set off an explosion in which he and many of his colleagues were killed. The Gremlin was outraged at having been deceived and angrily confronted his superiors. Fearing for his own life as a result of this outlash, the Gremlin fled the Soviet Union. Later, the Soviet Super-Soldiers, no longer working under government control, invited the Gremlin to join them. He accepted and designed a battlesuit similar to that of the Titanium Man which he wore in combat as the second Titanium Man. Months later, the Gremlin was attacked by Iron Man, who was attempting to destroy all technological traces to his own battlesuit. During battle, the Titanium Man's armor jets ignited and exploded, killing him.
