It posssed mystical powers of levitation because its rudimentary, featherless, scalloped wings were insufficient in and of themselves to bear him aloft. The Gargoyle also manifested the ability to manipulate bio-mystical energy, the inherent power of life-force itself
In our reality, the fate of Isaac Christians, mayor of a town in Virginia called Christianboro, became linked with that of a Gargoyle when he agreed to allow his spirit to inhabit the body of a gargoyle temporarily and to do the bidding of the Six-Fingered Hand in exchange for the solution to cure Christianboro's economic ills. Afterwards, he exchange bodies with the Gargoyle's original spirit, and thereby regained his human form, but the Gargoyle, back in his demonic body, set out to dominate human beings. As the gargoyles were all being turned to stone by Derwydden, last of the Druids, the Gargoyle fired bio-mystical energy at Christians, hoping to rid himself of him, but instead it reversed their exchange of bodies. Now back in the Gargoyle's form, Christians killed his human body to prevent the Gargoyle's spirit from doing more evil and Christians joined the Defenders.

Christians was one of many unwilling participants in the Skrull's Games up until their evacuation of Earth because of the arrival of Terrax. While the newly emancipated gladiators were getting their first taste of freedom, they found Terrax terrorizing their people and launched an attack on the Herald of Galactus. Because we do not see the Gargoyle after this, it is possible that he was slain.
