UNCANNY X-MEN #447: If my wallet allows it, which will probably be a yes since my list is pretty small.

Normally, I just sorta breeze through the TPB sections of these preview things, but....

:O

:ironfist: ESSENTIAL Iron Fist? :ironfist:

Contrary to what my previous review might indicate, I love the character and have only in my most fanboyish dreams ever imagined that Marvel would have the good sense to collect Marvel Premeire 15-25, as well as the entire Claremont/Byrne run of Iron Fist/Marvel Team-Up 63 & 64/PM&IF in one big, reader-friendly package.

This is the good stuff I refer to when I foam at the mouth about the state of the current series. I definitely advise picking it up, to see precisely what it is I rant about. :D

Even if you're not a big martial arts fan, get it for the first appearance of Sabretooth (IF#14), and the best Claremont/Byrne X-Men story you've never read (IF#15).

If putting up with the new series is the price I have to pay to get this blessed volume of kung-fu-ey goodness, I say: "Goooo, new series!" ;)

:D *Glee!* :D

Lets review, Shall we?

Hot Characters:
Venom, Carnage, X-Force, Ben Reilly,

Events:
Nick Fury is up to no good. Theres a big ass-avengers cross over. yet ANOTHER alternate reality x-men future. Magneto is back... again.

How much you wanna bet the cover to Amazing spider-man is actualy a re-colored spider-man mask and the bottom half is missing because its the return of the spider-clone?

oy. its 1995 all over again.

Two reasons to be happy:

1. RUNAWAYS #18

"SEASON FINALE! All of your questions are answered in this unforgettable final issue! But this isn't the end of our heroes. Stay tuned for what's next!"

Anyone who is curious about that enigmatic statement, check over at Newsarama for an interview with Brian K. Vaughan!!!! Runaways Season 2 is coming!!!! Yayy!!!!

2. X-STATIX #26

"The team embarks on its most hazardous mission yet! No, we’re not exaggerating. We mean it. Break out the tissues, and zip up the bodybags in this extra-special, last issue of the title formerly known as X-Force."

A bittersweet "reason to be happy" this one. But at least we're going to get closure on this series following the current Avengers arc. And that cover already has me salivating! Could the in-fighting in X-Statix be about to bring about the team's demise???

Other thoughts:

AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED - 7 titles tie in to this event this month! While I'm not really an Avengers fan, this sounds like it's going to be BIG!

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #63 & #64 -Ultimate Ben Reilly?!?

X-FORCE #1 - *sigh* One word: why? Although now that Liefield appears to be off of cover duties for Cable/Deadpool, I may actually be able to face picking up a copy...

EXCALIBUR #4 - well, I guess the cover to this one tells us that the cliffhanger to #1 was for real. "He's baaaaaaack!" I really wanna see how they explain this one...

EXILES #50 & #51 - Is that Beak wearing Xorn's helmet?!?

MARVEL KNIGHTS SPIDER-MAN #5 - No Frank Cho cover preview? That makes me a sad panda! :(

So, looks like this month I'll be mostly picking up:

Marvel Knights Spider-Man #5
Runaways #18
Daredevil #63
Astonishing X-Men #4 (depending on how #1 is next week!)
X-Statix #26

I actually almost screamed when I saw there was only one blue girl on the cover of Exiles...and to not see Ms. Wagner show up on any of the other 616 core titles makes me very, very sad :(

Loved the New X-Men cover!! Finally...Wind Dancer's on a cover!!

Xorn looked like a robot.

Thought the Astonishing cover was nice.

X-Men: The End had a really nice cover. Loved how lively Storm looked.

X-Force's team seemed kind of bare to me...I don't know why. I thought Warpath was going to be there. And is that Meltdown?

Where was adejctiveless X-Men at?

Hopefully Marvel has something in store for Runaways I love that book

I'm just confused about X-Force. The only characters making sens to appeare are Caliban, Domino, Meltdown and Shatterstar because they're used nowhere else.

But Cable appears in Cable/Deadpool, so already big continuiety problems ahead, matey! I thought Cannonball was going to be on Claremont's UX-Men team. Or is he gonna end up like Wolverine and show up on more then one team? And wasn't Warpath a member of one of those X-Corp versions?

I think I'm gonna buy the first issue because the preview art is awesome, and it depends on the story as well if to continue...

Wich he does. Wether its all the pain he caused the professor and his X-Men or him being the reason Charles started the school in the first place. Ofcourse I could be wrong and "Hes baaaack". ;)

Hmmm...Ultimate Nightmare doesn't sound terribly interesting to me, not that there's much to go on. I might pick up the Ultimate Daredevil and Elektra trade and pick up this new Ultimate Elektra mini. What's the deal with this Arachnaman thing? I'm totally confused by that.

Liefeld's X-Force was "years ahead of its time"? Well, I suppose it could be if you consider it one of the starting points for the industry's late-nineties death spiral... Gads.

I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but Ultimate Elektra will be a definite pickup. An odd place for Mike Carey to enter the Marvel Universe, but it should be interesting. Hopefully it will do well and Carey will get his well-deserved chance to write X-Men...

Damn! Almost got an entire month without Wolverine's new costume apearing in any cover but Davis blew it. Well, at least he is way back and hard to see. The cover isn't bad, except that I still hate the costumes. It as a classic vibe to it and its kind of cool. As for the story, I still haven't decided if I'm going to buy the book or not.

Good cover for X-Men.

Great cover for Astonishing X-Men! Very original and it looks great.

Greg Land does a great cover for X-Men: The End, except for Cyclops costume being very ugly. But what I really want to see it's the interior by Sean Chen. I love is art!

Good cover for Ultimate X-Men, but I prefer Jean's hair short.

Ultimate Nighmare seems intriging and it is writen by Warren Ellis. Right now, I'm thinking about it.

Wolverine #18 cover is the cover I liked least from Robertson on that title so far. I don't know what it is but it just doesn't click with me the way the others did. I'm still interested in the story inside though.

Finally, I don't see a mini series with Wolverine teaming up with another character anywhere. Marvel must be losing it!

Not that I'd necessarily write off a book based solely on its cover, but let's face it: Covers are intended to sell the book. When you stick a Liefeld cover on a book about Liefeld characters, you're definitely making a marketing statement.

I really love how Marvel is going old school with some of these covers. The covers to X-men and Uncanny are definately my cup of java. My favorite though has to be X-Men:the End.

My picks:

Uncanny X-Men #447
X-Men #160
Excalibur #4
Astonishing #4
New X-Men #4
X-Men: the End #1 and #2
Exiles #50 and #51
Alpha Flight #6
X-Force #1
Guardians #3
She-Hulk (going to start picking this up. I heard it was awesome)

Does anyone know if Sersi will show up in Avengers? If so, my happy ass will definately be picking it up.

I really love the Astonishing X-Men covers. I can't remember a recent series where the first few covers were of such great quality.

That Ultimate Spidery #54 interior variant has me torn. It's that ridiculous variant stuff, but it is by Saints Bendis and Bagley. What to do, what to do...

Its Bendis...you gotta!

Definitely:

Avengers #500 Director's Cut (nice to have the advance warning to know not buy the regular #500)
Secret War #3
Alpha Flight #6
She-Hulk #6
Powerless #3
X-Men: The End #1-2

Perhaps Invaders, Avengers, and some of the new books, depending on their previous issues. I'm also interested in Ultimate Nightmare, despite having never read an Ultimate book before... but it's Ellis, so I must consider it.

And I'm a bit worried by the complete lack of Thanos this month.

Glad to see that Runaways is coming back for more in late 2004 :D This whole "seasons" thing could be quite inevative for comics in general. I think it will stop them from going stale, as many titles seem to get at one point or another. Thanks to all who bought the tpb to make this popular (I personally bought 3). And that cover, beautiful!
Sad to see X-Static go, but should be one heck of an end

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that Ultimate Nightmare may see the introduction of Ultimate Illyana Rasputin/Magik!

Man, let it be so!!!

MARY-JANE #3

When some classmates play a prank on Mary Jane, good guy Flash Thompson goes on the offensive! Will he get himself suspended from the football team, or can MJ and Liz convince Flash to sit this one out?

How titillating. Oh I can't wait!!!

Some nice covers...still bumbed about the Exiles cover though.

I'm getting:

Daredevil #63
Exiles #50
Exiles #51
Powers #3
Ultimate X-Men #50
X-Men: Days of the Future Past TPB
X-Statix #26

Ultimate Gambit? Ugh. Ah, well, I'm sure Vaughan will make him a decent character. I was planning to drop Exiles after "Earn Your Wings," but it seems that Beak is joining the cast as a regular. So I'm in for the long run. :D Too bad for Nocturne fans, though, because it looks like she won't be in the book anymore.

X-STATIX #26
Written by Peter Milligan
Pencils & Cover by Michael Allred

The team embarks on its most hazardous mission yet! No, we’re not exaggerating. We mean it. Break out the tissues, and zip up the bodybags in this extra-special, last issue of the title formerly known as X-Force.

The last issue of X-Statix! :bawl: Looks like Guy's gonna bite the big one. And Myles is conspicuously absent from that cover.
