Wilson is an excellent trainer of wild birds and has developed an almost empathetic relationship with his hunting falcon Redwing. Falcon can fly by means of his jet-powered glider wings which extend from his wrists to his waist. The maximum speed he can attain is about 250 mph. The maximum practical conditions Wilson can reach and still breathe unaided are 140 mph at 24,000 feet.
In our reality, Sam Wilson had always had a remarkable talent for handling birds, especially the Redwing, a hunting falcon that he acquired in Rio. He became one of Harlem's staunchest crimefighters and a regular ally to Captain America. As the Falcon, he had been solely a rooftop-swinging athlete until the Black Panther, king of the African nation of Wakanda, provided him with Wakandan technology that enabled him to fly. At a later point, Wilson was offered membership to the premere superhero team Avengers. However, he was uncomfortable that his presence was due largely to the government's affirmative action policy and left, although he has helped the Avengers on occasion as a provisional member.
