In our reality, Victor Von Doom was raised by gypsies in a small European county called Latveria. He lost both of his parents at a very young age. Swearing revenge, Victor began to increase both his scientific and mystical knowledge with such determination that he was given a full scholarship to Empire State University. It was at ESU that Victor met Reed Richards and Ben Grimm, and where he started his extradimensional research. Doom's vanity prevented him from adjusting the schematics to one of his experiments, and the end result was an explosion that scarred Victor for life. Expelled from school, Victor began to travel the world, eventually stumbling upon a village of Tibetan monks who trained him and crafted him a suit of body armor, complete with face plate. He returned to Latveria, overthrew the government and crowned himself King. Ruling with an iron fist, Doom began to turn the resources of his nation towards world domination.

Appearances: Exiles #14-15
When Prince Namor, Monarch of the underwater nation of Atlantis and Ruler of the Oceans, decided to conquer the surface dwellers, the small European country known as Latveria was selected as the first to fall. To stop this from happening and set right the broken chains of time, the Exiles were forced to help Victor Von Doom. He rules Latveria, the Eastern European country of his upbrining that he returned to as an adult and crowned himself King. However, three-quarters of the Latverian army were encased in a forcefield erected by Namor who had also taken over Doom's castle where the Atlanteans were constructing a device that would reconfigure Latverian air, making it possible for Atlanteans to breathe and make it impossible for humans to do so.

In order to stop the Atlantean Invasion and regain his homeland, Doom provided the Exile Mimic with a means to access his castle via a secret entrance while the rest of the team aided the good Doctor in freeing the troops, though the Exiles always remained skeptical that his word would hold out. Not long into the battle to free the Latverian Army, it was evident that Doom had been withholding information from the team when some sort of disrupter was making it difficult for Morph to stay solid. Doom had only given them as much information as he deemed necessary. It was also apparent that he lied to them as they found he was leading them into a fight not against a small regiment, but with them being outnumbered a hundred to one. Sunfire would eventually be responsible for downing the forcefield, a battle was then waged, and eventually Latveria would reclaim its sovereignty.
