Written by Matt Cherniss & Peter Johnson
Penciled by Michael Gaydos
Cover by Tony Harris

Peter Parker, Matt Murdock & Logan were fated to be heroes. If Peter Parker wasn't bitten by a radioactive spider would he still do battle with a madman named Norman Osborn? Matt Murdock, though blinded, had no heightened senses. Nevertheless, he became a legal champion of the poor in Hell's Kitchen, crossing paths with a powerful crime boss named Wilson Fisk -- the Kingpin. Logan - still an enigmatic, amnesiac drifter - is on the run from his bloody past, without mutant powers to save him. By re-imagining Marvel's most popular characters without superhuman powers, this series will strip these heroes to their core, exploring what it means to be a hero in very human terms.

* X-Men
* Weapon X (yes! Sabretooth)
* Ultimate X-Men
* Ultimate Spider-Man
* Ultimate Fantastic Four
* Rogue #1 (cos probably Gambit'll appear in it, never even heard she'll getting her own series)

Fantastic Four #516 and Captain Marvel #25 are my only definites.

Out of the X-titles, none look particularly interesting, or at least nothing special that makes me feel I should pick any of them up instead of waiting for trades. Rogue however, is very tempting, for which I mostly blame the still lingering love for the once interesting character.

Rogue's art looks interesting and it alos looks like it's the MU version rather than the mix-and-match one we got in the Icons mini..
As for the look of her on the Ultimates cover.....not sure about that at all!

So, who's the claws belong to on the adjectiveless cover? Lady Deathstrike? Havok does need to change the costme back to his MX or X-factor one, the headpiece on this one is just UgLee!

I'm annoyed about the Avengers/TBolts cover, that's the one we got last month as the Issue 5 one, even though it's actually issue 6's. Anyone seen the actual art for Number 5's?

Hmm, not bad actually, down to just 30 comics this month now that the shipping schedule has been trimmed down to something resembling normality instead of everything shipping at leats twice a month.

Glad to see Marvel giving Robert Rodi a lot of high profile work since his stint on Elektra with Sean Chen was nothng short of excellent.

With the conclusion of Avengers/Thunderbolts, I'm optimistic of a new ongoing Thunderbolts in August or at the very least with the Avengers reload event.

I can't wait to read Uncanny, this title seems too perfect to be true! :cloud9:

But I have to admit that Astonishing doesn't look very promising so far.. another Wolverine cover and story? But I'll give it a shot anyway!

I really like covers of "X-Men" & "Rogue"! Rogue will finally get a mini series that revolves around her and takes place in the "616" continuity.

I’m bothered by that cover for a whole different reason. It looks like they desided to re-scar Zemo (though granted it doesn’t look remotely as bad as the old scars) and I was liking his “pretty boy” look.

I can’t say that I am. Of course by remaining my usual pessimistic (though I think I;m just being realistic) self it insures that I’ll be even more happy if hell freezes over and Marvel gives the ‘bolts the new ongoing that they so richly deserve.

I don’t think there was a single thing you said in that post that I didn’t agree with 100%...especially the part about Marvel FINALLY collecting XXM 2001. Now if they’d only do UXM 2001 (and the other Casey issues…heck Joe’s X-Men run would make for a nice hardcover) we’d be set.

What’s up with “Thor Visionaries: Mike Deodato Jr. TPB”? Don’t get me wrong, Mike’s a talented guy but his name isn’t one I associate with Thor.

I’d be interested in “Spider-Man: Son Of The Goblin TPB” if I didn’t already have all the issues but those first two Amazings (which will no doubt be collected in an Essential soon enough). And what’s with doing a “Best of Harry” trade without reprinting the “Child Within” arc? :?

Uncanny X-Men #446 Awesome cover!
Captain Marvel #25 Why does it have to end? WHY?
Fantastic Four #516 I'm really underwhelmed with Waid thus far. May not get this one.
Amazing Spider-Man #510 JMS is the best since Micheline.
Astonishing X-Men #3 Depends on how good the 1st issue is.
Excalibur #3 Can't wait for this series!
X-Men #159 Awesome Cover! Surely another lame Austen story. Should I keep buying this title once Austen takes over? I've got all the previous issues to the series and would like to keep collecting but Austen is really awful (for reasons mentioned countless times on every X website known to humankind).

I get the impression that the new "Uncanny" is the lovechild of X-Treme X-Men and Excalibur v. 1.

On the one hand, we've got Storm, Bishop, and Sage. On the other, Rachel and Kurt, Alan Davis on art, and recycled villains from the Moore/Davis run of 'Captain Britain' (The Technet, the Crazy Gang, the Fury, et. al.).

Not that that's a bad thing. :D

Actually, Uncanny is the book that I'm the most looking forward to out of this whole Reloaded dealie. I'd be more excited for 'Astonishing' if the solicits didn't read like the plot premise for an episode of Pinky and the Brain

"*Narf!* What are we going to do tonight, Scott?" :emma:

"The same thing we do every night, Emma... Try to Astonish the World!" :cyke:

As for Adjectiveless X-Men, ummm... err... Havok's new outfit looks kinda spiff, doesn't it?

Aside from my usual assortment of books, I think I might give Avengers #500 a look (although I might spare myself the need to drop money on the scads of tie-ins, as I currently buy none of them).

'Avengers Disassembled' looks to be good so I think I'll try that out and maybe even some of the other titles tied to it.

Andrews' Octopus and Mayhew's Pulse covers are great. Sakakibara's Exiles is funny too and the return of Impossible Man should be good. Land also does a nice Wolverine/Punisher. Some people might like Johnson's Cap cover because of the old school text, as it is quite good.

Meh. Out of all of Marvel's new titles and directions in July, Kabuki is the only thing I'm adding. Then again, I would have gotten that anyway no matter the publisher. Otherwise just my same list from last month: Captain America and the Falcon, Pulse, Runaways, and X-StatiX.

Looks like just Uncanny X-Men and X-Men for me. I'm not even seeing any trades I'm interested in, which saddens me quite a bit.

And I know Millar's Spider-man issues will probably sell well, but, I'm sorry, it looks just a little bit silly and pompous on Marvel's part to advertise the arc as sold out after only the first issue has hit the stands (and I'd bet good money that the soliciation was written prior to the book hitting the stands, or at least during the week it hit).

the lovely Sarah aka Marrow. I guess she is supposed to be back in the core titles in a big way, from what I have heard. All of the charaters in the "X-Men: Legends" videogame are supposed to be having HUGE impacts and storylines in the X-Men world before and while the game is released later this year! I hear that she may even be one of the mutants in Emma's "Ultimate X-Factor.";)

Well since she isn't a part of Emma's X-Factor nor has she appeared in Ultimate X-men at all, and X-men:Legends is based in the Ultimate universe (apparently) most of that rumor seems unlikely. Might still be her in the comic though.

wow, there are some really good books in there (not counting the icons line which are all superb), but there is way to much crap. Marvel really is going a bit over board with trying to put out as many books to try and tap all audiences because not only are they turning out new crap, they are turrning the old books that were at one point good in to crap. Agreed, but rather than hoping Marvel gets it together I'm enjoying what Image and DC have to offer. I find I'm happiest when buying books that don't sell well. They just seem better, probably due to lower editorial control.

Hmm, I've got to say that X-men Reload is a great idea... for saving me money! ;) :p

This Month:

Marvel Knights Spider-Man #4
Daredevil #62
X-Statix #25 (gotta love that cover, man! :D )
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 10: Hollywood TPB

Captain America
Apr 22, 2004, 12:51 pm
Best cover of the month - Mary Jane 2
Worst cover of the month - Ultimate X-Men 49

Way too many titles involved in Avengers Disassembled, just getting Avengers 500 I am. Even if the nostalgic feel to Captain America looks really good. Nice to see the new Captain Britain will still be around after Austen leaves Avengers though. I need to get that handbook I think...
Mark Brooks work looks really good, and almost tempts me to have a sneaky peak at Amazing Fantasy. Other than that, not really any Spider-Man titles inspiring me to buy them. Mike Deodato Jr. on Amazing art is a big attraction, but we shall see.
Really don't like the Ultimate X-Men cover... but the Mary Jane cover looks fantastic!
On to the x-titles: Uncanny X-Men looks and sounds like fun:

How will Wolverine, Storm and Nightcrawler cope when it turns their own teammate, Sage, against them?

Not very well from the looks of the cover! However, the old school team of Claremont and Davis should make this a fantastic book and the cover actually relates to the story instead of being a stupid pin up! Nice. Astonishing X-Men is a must, as is X-Men (maybe this dead villain is Apocalypse - Austen was meant to bring him back in Uncanny). Still undecided about Excalibur, one issue at a time methinks. They Rogue cover is kinda ugly, hopefully they release some interior art. Who is this Rob Rodi fella? He's launching the Rogue series and a Loki mini in the same month.
Getting Exiles as always, wonder what's in store for issue 50 (hey, 50 issues! That's imporessive for a title launched by Marvel these days!).

"Man and Superman" 1 (of 3)
Sabretooth makes his savage return, making himself all too comfortable in his new career as a hired gun. That is, until his new employers issue out his latest assignment: to track - and take down - his former boss from the Marauders, Mr. Sinister!

Fingers crossed Sinister kills him! :D

Namor is in Marvel Knights 4! Excellent! Aguirre-Sacasa seems pretty big on continuity and is really bringing this team to life. Can't wait. Sabretooth is in Wolverine, which is too bad, unless Logan kills him!! Imagine seeing Creed killed twice in one month. The continuity buffs would be mad, but it'd be funny!!
Alpha Flight has turned into a Marvel Heroes title, while Powerless has gone to the X-Men? Meh, fair enough.

Comics I will certainly be getting:

Avengers #500
Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Avengers 2004
Uncanny X-Men #446
Astonishing X-Men #3
X-Men #159
Exiles #49
Marvel Knights 4 #8
Wolverine #17

Comics I am considering:

Amazing Fantasy #2
Excalibur #3
Rogue #1

Can't see myself getting Mary Jane, and I'm waiting for the Alpha Flight trade (yeah, there'll be one!).

:( sad to see captain marvel go.. :( why wouldn't marvel keep a good quality book with fine art and depth? instead, they seem to launch the same stuff over and over again.. i can see the demise of the company in not so far away. i mean does anybody belive ANY of these titles will last past #20?

captain america & falcon
amazing fantasy
spider-man unlimited
venom (this one is pretty close though)
the pulse
marvel age: spider-man
mary jane
runaways (that would amaze me, but low chances that it hits #30)
marvel age: fantastic four
astonishing x-men (if whedon leaves after #12. would not last byond #30s neither)
new x-men
excalibur (quite possible taht it reaches #30, but how far beyond?)
district x
rouge (would probably be unable to reach #12)
starjammers (an ongoing?? pfth!!)
cable and deadpool
emma frost
mystique (close enough too, any chances beyond #25?)
nyx (i guess this one is already canned)
marvel knights: 4
supreme power (probably this one would be the only one to last longer than #25)
alpha flight
guardians (this one is just here for couple of issues i guess. may be an attempt to replace runaways)
she-hulk (definitely going down)
iron fist (this one too)
thanos (how long can this one stay after the end of captain marvel?)

that makes 26 titles that marvel publishes without belivieng in them. plus i guess there are other titles that are under the threat of cancellation (at least i don't see them being kept around in a year or two from now) these include:

one out of three spider titles. probably spectecular will end in couple of issues (five probably) cause millar's spider is selling more.

spider-girl just seems doomed. each time she goes down we have to drag her up again. but one of these days; it will just not be enough. i love the title and happy to know that marvel is keeping it around for a little bit more, but it is one of the least selling titles and the cashers in marvel will probably just stop backing down from the loyal support that the title has.

exiles is confusing me. the title is not really telling a consistant story and the creator profiles change constantly to drag any plot anyway, but it keeps coming out. don't know whether it will last for two more years; but they might very well put out another 50 issues before wrapping it up in couple of months, because it seems easy to throw out random stories about the cast and push multiple issues to the followers within the same month.

weapon X is beyond me. i don't know a jack about it. it may be kept around as the wild card of everything thrown out of x-universe...

i neither see the future of daredevil. maybe it could last up to a #100, but the stories are very self contained that i am just thinking one of these days marvel might turn to continious-minis format with voluume numbers rising instead of the title number (like the kabuki or the mangas)

i guess the x-statix is also doomed. 10 or 15 issues more and it will be it. moving it under the knights banner was not a celebratory action i guess

let's take on the heroes now.. captain america, thor, iron man and hulk.. it is hard for me to say (and hard to imagine too) but these titles are on the decline. together with avengers maybe. so this might be what the avengers dissamble is about. they're gonna reboot the avengers title and most probably shake the status quo of the three of them (sans hulk) reboot for those titles too? new creative teams? how long would they last? i guess we'll have to wait and see for that. they are going to reinvent the avengers so this may push the seperate hero titles a bit. than they would probably last for an additional 20 or more issues. but continious minis or volume numbering format might prove better for these too. or probably maybe; they may also fade away...
and look how close spectacular is tied with disassamble. i think that the rumors of spidey in the new jla-like-all-stars-avengers might turn out to be true. (a mutation?? ergh..)

so what are we going to be left in two years time?

uncanny
x-men
wolverine
amazing spider-man
the new avangers
and lots of lots of rebooted series at ish no's below #5
and lots and lots of mini series

and oh, the ULTIMATE line. (here you go your ultimatization!)

sorry, i wouldn't be pessimistic but, heck! they are taking away the Captain Marvel!!! :(

Isn't the Excalibur cover for this month the same as the month before? Maybe Marvel is experimenting (?) with one book having allways the same cover. I don't think the fans would go for it but, if they did, it would mean a lot less work to figure what to put on the covers. Or it could be that one of the two solicitations is wrong (wich I'm certain is what happened, but same cover theory was interesting, wasn't it :p).

After seeing Brandon Peterson's covers for for Ultimate X-Men and some preview art for #46 I have to ask why would anybody hire him, much more give him a three year exclusive contract. When he was a bit of a Jim Lee "impersonater" his art was a bit boring but at least it was pretty. Now, its just ugly. I hope he spends the rest of his contract on things I don't want to read.

Uncanny X-Men's solicitation looks interesting, altough I'm still a bit unwilling to buy it, since I read very litle of Claremont's X-Treme and would have catch up with a lot of things. Agreeing with Cap, cheers for a cover that seems to have something to do with the inside.

X-Men's cover is very ugly! Wolverine looks like he's going to be able to fly, given the size of his mask's hears and Havock looks sickly thin. And, loking at the cover, I reeeeeeeally hope they are not going to come up with whole species of mutants that look like Wolverine, like the "wolves", "devils" and "angels". That would be a low point for Marvel, but that never stopped them before.

The cover for Astonishing is ok. That's probably the best Wolverine will look with the "Demon Pikachu" (Jordan's term) costume, wich isn't saying much and he is exactly like he was in the #1 cover, but it's not bad. As for the solicitation, I'm willing to bet wathever changes it will happen in Wolverine's relationship with one the X-Men, they will be done in a couple of pannells and will have little or no impact in future storylines. In a nut-shell: "Who cares?"

The Wolverine cover is fantastic!! DR should be the only one allowed to draw the character this days. He is the only one that makes him justice! I feell depressed just by thinking he and Rucka are going to leave the title.

Finally NYX #6 appears in a solicitation.

I might check Starjammers and Kabuki or maybe even Loki, because of Ribic's art.

I like the covers for Man-Thing, Daredevil (Maleev's the man!) Avengers and Punisher.

exiles is confusing me. the title is not really telling a consistant story and the creator profiles change constantly to drag any plot anyway, but it keeps coming out. don't know whether it will last for two more years; but they might very well put out another 50 issues before wrapping it up in couple of months, because it seems easy to throw out ra
