Known Associates: L-Ron H*BB*RD, Sue Dibny, JLA, Guy Gardner, G'nort
Major Enemies: Roulette, Manga Kahn
Profile: What became of the Justice League International? Maxwell Lord, after abandoning the biomechanical armour that had corrupted him as Lord Havoc, decided to return to doing what he was most successful at, business. Meeting his old robotic companion, L-Ron, at a drive through Big Belly Burger, Max convinced L-Ron to give up his job and join him in reforming a super team for hire by the general public. Managing to persuade previous JLI members to join them, as well as a new recruit in Mary Marvel, the group aimed to cash in on their fleeting fame whilst defending the public.
History:
Assembling the team was a challenge in itself. After convincing L-Ron to begrudgingly join him, Lord had to search for his other team mates. Fire was contacted through her adult website, whilst Booster was on the estate of his much older lover. Captain Atom was persuaded to abandon his awful yellow and red costume to join the group and Blue Beetle took much convincing due to his heart condition and new, serious, attitude. Elongated Man couldn't wait for the opportunity to adventure again and his wife, Sue, joined as a member of staff. Finally Captain Marvel declined the group as he was a member of the Justice Society of America. Instead it was his sister, Mary, who took the team up on the offer.[Formerly Known As The Justice League #1]
The group's first challenge came from the local neighbourhood watch group in the town where their new HQ was based. Fearing that having a resident super team would attract super villains and thus lower house prices and put public safety at risk, the group rallied for the Superbuddies to be removed. It was only after the team managed to defend the community against the local gang, the E Street Bloodsuckers, that the community accepted them. [Formerly Known As The Justice League #2]
Max aimed to publicise the group to the public using a promotional video, dubbing the team the Superbuddies. This name was to the chagrin of the majority of the team but there was no chance to debate the matter as the super powered members of the team were abducted by the villainess Roulette. Placed in Roulette's casino, where heroes were brought to duel to the death whilst villains placed wagers on them, the team mates were incarcerated until their time to fight. Captain Atom was trounced by Mary Marvel and nearly died until the other team members, freed by Fire, stepped in to stop her. The Superbuddies then managed to escape the casino with Mary Marvel traumatised about putting Captain Atom in critical condition. [Formerly Known As The Justice League #3-4]
However, the Superbuddies then faced one of their old foes from their JLI days, Lord Manga Kahn, intergalactic trader and despot. With his Cluster ship over head, Kahn's mission was to barter in order to gain the services of L-Ron back. Offering the former Justice League of Antarctica member and current Darkstar G'nort in exchange for his erstwhile companion. A full scale conflict was nearly caused thanks to Booster's stupidity but this was avoided with the appearance of the JLA who had been watching the Superbuddies from their conception. Kahn was outwitted by Max and Sue, who convinced him that he had been captured and he left the planet leaving G'nort with the team. Unbeknownst to the team, Kahn had only returned for L-Ron because he had a deep love for the little robot. This love is unrequited. The team was left in a state of flux with no one knowing what was to happen next. G'nort was anxious to continue his membership although Maxwell may have mentioned something about a Superbuddies branch opening in Antarctica. [Formerly Known As The Justice League #5-6]
