Written by Matt Cherniss & Peter Johnson
Penciled by Michael Gaydos
Cover by Alex Maleev

What makes a hero? Is it his actions, or is it the results of those actions? Powerless explores what it means to be a hero in very human terms. By re-imagining Marvel's most popular characters without superhuman powers, this series will strip down to the core heroes we have all come to know and love. These characters - including Peter Parker, Matt Murdock and Logan - were fated to be heroes. Just because Peter Parker wasn't bitten by a radioactive spider doesn't mean he didn't do battle with a madman named Norman Osborn. Matt Murdock? Blinded, yes - but with no heightened senses. However, he did become a legal champion of the poor in Hell's Kitchen, and he did cross paths with Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin. And Logan is, of course, the enigmatic - and amnesiac - drifter on the run from his past.

So Wolverine is going to be in Astonishing, Uncanny, and X-Men? Is that really nessesary?

Anyway, at least now we can see which members are going to be on which team, though some of the costumes look kind of X-Statix like.

Why is Trial of Juggernaut being collected with the pre-Reload issues?:?

Beautiful-looking month from some of Marvel's finest.

What's all that business beneath the Excalibur solicit mean, I wonder? And who in bloody hell is that on the cover?:?

She-Hulk's cover artist should be doing every cheesecake cover from now til the end of eternity. That man is genius!

Chuck Austen returning a character to the X-Men's lives as a surprise has me more than a bit worried...

Mooooo. Sorry, couldn't resist. No it's very unncessesary though very profitable for Marvel.

I really don't like em...the outfit Jean has on makes her look like her Mangaverse counterpart...not good.

SWEET FANCY MOSES...THEY ARE BRINGING IN BEN REILLY!!! HOW?! Also the covers are out of freaking sight...I especially love the Amazing Spider-Man #509...reminds me of that famous McFarlane one. Don't know why? Powerless is going to get picked up as well. I liked the last guy who did the Fantastic Four covers before? Lastly, aren't some of the X-titles messed up? I thought it was supposed to be Academy X, not New X-Men. I hate the way they have Nightcrawler on that cover too...looks ridiculous. AND NOW LASTLY Wolverine is on almost all the teams again....go figure...

Venom vs Carnage #1
X-Statix #24

I think I will be getting Venom vs Carnage just because it is by Pete Milligan, though I might pick up wolvie/punisher instead. I dont know what to do about the X-Men books. All the covers look amazing, and I would pick up salavadors just because he is so amazing. I am all for development and progression of the characters, but it seems like all reload is doing is moving back and then trying to move forward. I will be debating on Astonishing or Excabular and the outside chance of Uncanny, but as for that I just might ditch them all, heck there is still X-Statix.

And What the hizzy happened to John Romita JR. On Amazing?!? This really makes me sad.

I *love* the Emma Frost cover. And the Astonishing cover... if I didn't already dig Cassaday that would've been enough to turn me into a faithful acolyte.

Will the return of this character prove to be the saving grace of the X-Men, or will it doom them forever?
Please, please, please, for the love of Zod, please... :jeanphnx:

That Salva cover for X-Men. WOW. So the academy X is now New X-Men?

Don't forget the shockwaves Avengers will send on all the satelite titles (you know, in the big summer event all those titles are leading up to), Ben Reilly, Carnage, Venom, a black symbiote costume for a certain wallcrawler, and the continuing flood of titles starring any B-lister who either has a connection to some big name/franchise or just looks cool. Or was that implied by your "..."?

Ehh not much here that makes me salivate. Love the X-StatiX cover. Very Wile E. Coyote. I wonder if this means Iron Man will step out of the way at the last minute making Orphan plummet down the Grand Canyon. How they end up there is anyone’s guess.

I’m on the fence for the Venom and Carnage mini. On the one hand it is Peter Milligan, while on the other it is Venom and Carnage, two characters I’m not too fond of. Then there’s the “offspring” of Carnage which makes me a little sad about not getting Kid Amazo anytime soon. Not that I was anyways since I was waiting for the softcover.

NYX #5...again?!? You couldn't write comedy this good.

I guess it’ll just be X-StatiX, Cap & Falcon, Runaways, and a couple of maybes for me.

As for the redhead on Uncanny.... That IS Rachel. A couple of weeks back, Claremont even said that he was using her. She's going by the code name Marvel Girl.

I'm just wondering about the lineup on the New X-Men cover. It looks a bit different. Nori, David, Laurie, Sofia, Josh (?), & Kevin (?). Not sure about those last two, especially since Josh isn't golden. Plus, no Dust on the cover this time around. Very interesting.

Look's like there's no Northstar *sniff* *sniff*, I had a feeling he would get shafted (no pun intended) with Marvel going all safe and PC kiddie again. The teams look great but I would of loved to see him on one of the team's at least. I mean, really does Wolverine have to take up a space on every team!

The only characters left unaccounted for are - Jubilee, Husk, Archangel, Northstar and the former New Mutants currently appearing in X-treme.

As for the mystery red head, if it's not a new character I'd go for Firestar or Rachel. My bets on Firestar, those glasses are kinda similiar to one of her former outfit glasses.

Mystery character returning....could it be Dazzler?

And lastly am I happy to see Rogue back in the green and yellow...yes indeed!

Great month for covers at least.

Can anyone tell me why the Uncanny trade is skipping some issues? (yeah, I wait for the trades, so sue me).

I think the mystery guy on the uncanny cover is Cannonball, that would make the most sense. The red-head girl? I have no idea. Looks to young too be Jean (though she would have to be reborn I guess), and too young to be Rachel. I have no idea.

EDIT:

Nope. Claremont said he was using Rachel in Excalibur. Not Uncanny.

Also: I hope I don't get reprimanded for this but... Rogue on the cover of X-Men... I guess that is just one of the risks of being a girl and wearing spandex, hm?

Actually, he said Rachel would NOT be in Excalibur.

"Dear One and All:

Forgive me, but where did all this talk about Rachel and "Marvel Girl" come from?

As best I can recall from any interviews I may have given, the only characters mentioned -- post-"Reload" -- have been Ororo, Sage, Bishop and Charley.

What I can say for sure without exception or qualification is that there is no Rachel and no Marvel Girl connected in any way, shape, manner or form -- beyond some vague and generic label in the past, present or future as "X-Men" -- with "Excalibur." Indeed, in part due to recent circumstances, but also as part and parcel of the ongoing creative and editorial process, I wouldn't give much credence to *any* of the stories, rumors, wishes or what-have-you that have been circulating of late, with regards to both "Excalibur" *and* "Uncanny." Heck, that probably applies to "X-treme" too!

I mean, has anyone considered that the room layout of Rogue's beach-house may have been a totally "Skippy" moment, designed to mislead, misdirect and otherwise confound our readers?

Hope this helps.

Cordially,
Chris Claremont"

2 What's going to happen to Jubilee?

Let's see... well, I will definitely be getting NYX #5 (hmmm... that sounds familiar), Alpha Flight, and Powerless. It is also nice to know ahead of time that I would be wasting my money if I bought Astonishing X-Men #1 in May, since the 'bigger, longer, and uncut' version is coming along only a month later. Identity Disc sounds vaguely interesting, so I may take a look, and Witches has an intriguing concept... especially for a fan who has been around long enough to fondly remember all three of them. :)

WHOAH! I definitely like the cover preview for the first chapter of the six-part mini series entitled Powerless, which stars Wolverine as a cast member. I am SO looking forward to picking this up when it hits the stands. I also like the cover previews for Astonishing X-Men #2, Uncanny X-Men #445, X-Men #158, Wolverine #16, New X-Men #2, Excalibur #2, Wolverine: The End #4, Secret War #1: The Commemorative Edition, and 4 #7.

Why does Runaways #16 have the exact same solicitation as #15 did, even down to #3 in the arc?
:?

But as for the cover to Excaliber #2, that would be awesome if it was Threnody because the last time she showed up, couldn't she raise the dead? (I remember zombies were chasing her and her and Nate's kid as well). I guess that's one way of fixing the problem of 16 million dead mutants

OMG! Wolverine VS Agent Smith! ;)

But seriously, this is one of the best months cover-wise. I'm a sucker for cover art, and this month I'm smiling from ear to ear.

I'm glad about Rogue's return to the green & yellow. I'm also happy that Polaris kept her Morrigan-from-Darkstalkers costume. But as a Wolverine fanatic, I must say this: the ears of the mask are too short.

Venom VS Carnage! Respect the symbiotes!

Those X-Men uniforms are looking pretty bad.

I love the covers...but...I feel...crossed. I love seeing Larroca's Rogue again and the only thing that scares me is Chuck's writing. I'm not bashing him I just haven't liked anything he did after his first "hope" arc. I dropped Uncanny in "Holy War" and I looked at "She lies with angels" and it's not my cup of tea. I'll give it a try....never thought I'd drop a book with Rogue in it though. I was just so excited about what C.C had planned for her...power wise. I mean she was finally back to normal. She was sassy and still rough. She was strong and most importantly independent. She never cried for Gambit...in X-treme for not being able to touch him...I somehow think that's all going to be lost with Austin...but who knows...maybe...hopefully I'll be pleasently surprised.

Man, the covers for X-Men, Uncanny X-Men and AXM rocks so the teams looks like this then:

Astonishing X-Men: Cyclops, Wolverine, Shadowcat, Emma Frost, Beast
Uncanny X-Men: Storm, Bishop, Nightcrawler, Cannonball, Sage, Wolverine and that girl that stands with the team who is that?
X-Men: Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine, Juggernaut, Havok, Iceman and Polaris

I give Chuck Austen one chance, maybe two for that precious Salvador Larocca cover that maybe hides a good story.

I thought that i was Rogue on Uncanny X-men cover but she is on the cover of X-men. But if that isn't Rogue........ Who is she????

(Maybe it is Rachel because she heard that her mother is dead again (I still think Jean isn't dead at all) and she rejoin X-men or maybe it is Siryn)

And on Astonishing is that Storm (Woman with white hair and blue eye) and Nightcrawler (blue fur) ????? I think not because it isn't their series or it IS Emma and Scott

Seriously though, Invaders #0 = super-lame. And that Avengers cover of Namor is one of the queerest looking Namor drawings I think I've ever seen.

Still thrilled about spandex, but really hoping some of those Davis designs get a tweak. I mean, those collars on Bishop and Cannonball look pretty bad and Rachel looks like she's going to the gym for a workout. Oh, and Sage looking exactly like British Betsy used to is not going to help the argument that she is exactly like British Betsy was...not at all...

After seeing the cover to the new X-men stuff I don't seem excited so I guess i am not going to get anymore X-men stuff for a couple of months because once a comic isn't fun anymore then I leave it and they don't look fun. So you will see me again in a few months.

It might be a little early to conclude who will or won't be appearing already; afterall, if certain people really do return sometime after reload, I doubt splashing them across the cover would be a great idea in the eyes of editorial. Even Magneto's return in Planet X was never shown in solicits before the month it was revealed in-story.

It may not be a good idea to get your hopes up too much I guess, but I don't think Betsy fans should assume this is a definite "no" just yet :)

The only cover I personally like is Sal's X-Men cover. Rogue looks beautiful, although I'm not sure how I feel about her reverting to her 90's look of green and yellow, but he did her hair justice for once and its in a ponytail again thank God! I love that she's wearing her star earings from X-Treme X-Men, Gambit looks okay, wish he wasn't wearing the flaps around his face, Wolverine looks like Wolverine, Iceman looks like IceMan. It will be interesting to see Rogue and Gambit with Havok and Polaris and IceMan seeing as how they all really haven't reacted with one another that much over the years(except Rogue and Bobby). I guess Northstar, Husk, and Jubes are in limbo = that's sad, I liked them alot, Hopefully Annie, Carter, and Squid Boy can join them in limbo. As far as the Uncanny cover is concerned- the only good costume on there is Sage's in my opinion. Bishop, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Wolverine are essentially just wearing their old 90's versians. Rachel looks cool with her mini skirt or hot pants or whatever she's wearing, I'm glad she's on the team. Sam needs help from the Queer Eye guys so badly it's not even funny.

So I'm picking up Uncanny, X-Men (without the New thank God), Ultimate X-Men, maybe Unlimited X-Men b/c its a Gambit story?, Emma Frost- although I don't know how much longer I'll be buying the book, it hasn't been satisfying me as of lately, Astonishing X-Men I will get b/c I like Joss Whedon- but I hope its different than Buffy, probably won't be and b/c that Emma/Scott cover looks fabulous! I might pick up Excalibur, I'm not sure.

Chuck has Rogue, I was SO wanting this and shes in the same book as Bobby. My 2 favs in the same book. Lets hope this crap movie rip off rogue is retconned asap. Hopefully Chuck will split up the BORING R&R drivel. (please Chuck PLEASE)

May we actually get to see Bobby and Rogue build on their great friendship from the road trip era? Maybe we might even get Bobby to actually admit hes in love with her like he was gonna back then but then editors interferred.

The covers are looking good, but whats with that Orange suit on Cannonball/Banshee? UGH:hellno:

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #509
Written by J. Michael Straczynski
Pencils & Cover by MIKE DEODATO JR.

The first chapter of a five-part story arc, featuring the stunning debut of new regular artist Mike Deodato Jr. (Incredible Hulk) and the introduction of two new characters that will be discussed for years to come!

New character that will last for years? Not seen any of them since...I dunno, since Gambit arrived in Uncanny? :p

Hmm, a few comics tying into Avengers 500 (Spectacular Spider-Man, Iron Man, etc). Can't get them I'm afraid! At least Steve Epting has showed vast improvement from his X-Factor days with the Spidey cover, and Mike Deodato Jr delivers as always with his work. Still nothing in particular that makes me wanna buy any Spider-Man books though, and I used to be a big fan. Oh well...

Nice to see Marvel releasing a Mary Jane comic. I don't honestly expect it to last very long, but I like that they are delving into other genres. The cover is good. Onwards to the X-Men section...

Woo hoo! Frickin' awesome :D 90's costumes are back, baby! :p Seriously, Rogue and Wolverine and Gambit look real close to the funky Jim Lee designs of X-Men 1, my favourite costumes. I wonder if that really is Rachel in Uncanny... Chuck Austen has a great line up there, hope he uses em well, although I would rather he subtituted Logan for someone else. a) he is being used a bit too much and b) Chuck never seems to use him at all well. Astonishing cover is good, as is the one for Weapon X and Excalibur. Where did this Andy Park come from?

Exiles vs. FF? Cool beans, another cliched superhero brawl (nothing wrong with those as I always say!). Not interested in the Invaders so I will miss out the Once an Invader arc in Avengers, then start picking it up again with issue 500. Hmm, not sure whether to pick up She-Hulk or not...but I will be getting Marvel Knights 4, action at last! I love the slow character developing that's been going on, but it has left me hankering for a fight :)

So I think I'm getting ASTONISHING X-MEN #2, UNCANNY X-MEN #445, X-MEN #158, EXILES #48, 4 #7 and WOLVERINE #16, with the outside possiblities of Excalibur and She-Hulk.

un pas avant, 2 pas en arričre!!!

I hate the new look of the x-men, awfull costumes are back (flachy colors) and all the things that made x-men more modern than Avengers disppear.
Storm was so beautiful with short hair, She looks like now an old women! Sage is so ridiculous with her purple raincoat, beurk!
:(
X-Men seems to me now as a big bad Joke!:clown:
Dommage! un vrai gachi!

maybe the good surprise is from astonishing x-men!
John Cassaday is a great penciler!
and the choice for the characters appearing in that book is logic!
i can't wait for this (in a year unfortunately)

as regard new x-men : academy x, randy Green is really bad!
we want Bachalo instead of Green!

About covers by Kollins:O ! (great art)

Wow Don't know where to start

I'll definatly try Amazing Fantasy.Looks like the whole venom limited series is back from the 90's

Finally know who's on which team int he x-books(Wolvirene on every team!!!What a new and unthought of trend)Who is the Red head in Uncanny.

The Runaways 'good die young ' arc is confusing me.Thought it was just 2 issues, then 3,now 3 again

X-MEN

XM: Rogue will have control of her powers when she gets them back? Will Rogue get the "Ms. Marvel" powers back too? What happened to Warren, Paige, Jubilee, and Northstar?

UXM: Sam's costume looks pretty bad. It could at least be blue and gold. Rachel's outfit doesn't look much better. Also, I wonder if Rogue, Kurt, and Gambit a part of some big trade involving contract renegotiations and salary caps...

AXM: This has more to do with the preview pages, but what happened to Cyke's red shades, and how does that visor stay on his face?

NXM: I still think gold skin looks bad.

Well, the X-Force characters still aren't being used. I can't believe that they've managed to create 4 monthly titles and teams called X-Men without using them. At this point, I wouldn't mind them becoming X-Force again (written by FabNic, of course) instead of progressing to the X-Men ranks.

OTHER MARVEL

POWERLESS: There goes my big idea. I can delete that file. This looks pretty cool though.

AVENGERS/INVADERS: The upcoming
