Conan's first Hyperborean adventure reveals the secrets of immortality, and the peaceful northern paradise is shown for the nightmare it really is. Conan breaks from those who've enslaved him, but is unable to save the lives of the prisoners he leads, or the woman he's fallen in love with.

Robert E. Howard hinted at the terrors that his character Conan suffered in Hyperborea, but Busiek and company reveal the adventure here for the first time in livid detail.

* Cary Nord is also known for his work for Marvel on Daredevil and Mutant X.

* Kurt Busiek says "There are everything from ape-men to albino giants to giant spiders to giant snakes." Just take ‘giant' and put a deadly animal behind it."

Dark Horse is pleased to report that the first issue of the exciting new Conan series, featuring story by Kurt Busiek and art by Cary Nord, completely sold out on its first day of release!

"I'm just grateful to the creative team for making this possible," enthused Conan editor Scott Allie. " We knew that Conan would be a big property for us, but the sincerity with which these guys attacked the job-from cover to letters and everything in between-is what makes the book irresistible. I personally never took on the launch of a new book with as much gravity as I took on Conan, and I've never been so proud of the result."

The second printing will feature a new variant cover by noted artist J. Scott Campbell, best known for his work on Gen13 and Danger Girl.

NEIL GAIMAN (W) and Michael Zulli (A)

On sale July 4, HC, 48pg FC, 7" x 10", $12.95

From the New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman comes a brand new hardcover collection, featuring two magical and disturbing stories lushly adapted to comics by veteran painter Michael Zulli (The Last Temptation). Newly rewritten by Gaiman for this graphic novel, these two ominous stories from the author's award- winning prose, Smoke and Mirrors: Short Fictions and Illusions, feature animals and people not being quite what they seem. In "The Price," a black cat like a small panther arrives at a country home and is soon beset by mysterious and vicious wounds. What is he fighting every night that could do this, and why does he persist? "The Daughter of Owls" recounts an eerie old tale of a foundling girl who was left—with an owl pellet—as a newborn on the steps of the Dymton Church. She was soon cloistered away in a local convent, but by her fourteenth year word of her beauty had spread—and those who would prey upon her faced unforeseen consequences.

* 2004 will see the release of the much-anticipated MirrorMask, a film written by Neil Gaiman and directed by longtime collaborator Dave McKean for the Jim Henson Company and Columbia Tristar.

JAMES VANCE (W) and ALEX MALEEV (A)

On sale July 28, SC, 96pg, b&w, 6" x 9", $9.95

One of the most haunting and compelling comics stories ever told has been resurrected by Dark Horse. People once believed that when a person dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead although sometimes, something so terrible happens that a sadness is carried with it and the soul cannot rest. Sometimes—just sometimes—the crow can bring that soul back to make the wrong things right.

In the midst of a rural land-rights struggle, federal conservation officer Iris Shaw is murdered in a bombing by a rag-tag band of right-wing activists. Little do her killers know that Iris wasn't their only victim and now, with the help of the Crow, Iris must exact vengeance not only for her own death but also that of her unborn baby. Raised from her grave and armed with cold-blooded hatred and a few deadly weapons, Iris hunts down her killers one by one. But if exacting ultimate pain is the goal, when does vengeance cross the line to brutality? And what is the price to the soul?

* Two of modern comics' hottest storytellers team up to recount the story of the first-ever female Crow!

SHOW OF FORCE, Part 2 of 2

JOHN OSTRANDER (W), JAN DUURSEMA (P), and DAN PARSONS (I)

On sale June 23, FC, 32pg, $2.99

Four Jedi with prices on their heads versus a space station full of bounty hunters! Really, need we say more?

Mace Windu has decided that it's time for the Jedi to flex their muscles demonstrate to the Bounty Hunters' Guild the folly of attacking Jedi. It's going to be a hard lesson—and one the Guild won't soon forget. Meanwhile, Count Dooku sends renegade Jedi Quinlan Vos to teach a similar lesson to the person who originated the bounties. Is it a case of opposite sides working toward the same end, or are the Separatists still one step ahead of the Jedi?

That J. Scott Campbell cover on the Conan #1 reprint is mighty tempting.

Shi: Ju-Nen looks like it could make an interesting action-oriented old skool asian bad girl counterbalance to Kabuki: The Alchemy's surely more introverted ninja babe character study.

And Steve Rude's The Moth looks like lots of fun.

No more comics for me from Dark Horse.
I still don't get why Dark Horse is still considered to be one of the 4 big publishers.

That Samurai Executioner looks top.

It sort of seems to me that if there is a swore/lightsaber involved then Dark Horse is involved. Maybe it's time to move on somewhere else.

Well, I'll be darned, you're right, they do seem to be the "guys with swords" comic company these days. I know all the books I'll be getting from them in June are about guys with swords:

Berserk Vol. 4
Conan #5
Usagi Yojimbo #76

Must ... feed ... heathen ... bloodlust!

I'm not sure I follow you there.

What has impressed me about Dark Horse, much like Image, is the variety of things they publish: some horror, some sci-fi, some anime, and products like stationary and journals.

If you don't like Star Wars, that's not to say you wouldn't like Rocco Vargas or Spyboy or Galactic. Even if you don't like sci-fi, there are other options.

Are you sure there Alex? I mean half the stuff that's coming out has a sword or something like it in someway. In that Galactic cover, that blue thing hes holding sure does resemble a sword. I'm all up for sci fi comics and everything, I would just like to see Dark Horse expand more. I know they have the talent there to do it. I mean sure I may have been overgeneralizing what is going on there, just like it wouldn't be fair for me to point at Crossgen in the past and told them to stop with all the Sigils. Crossgen is a clear example of how they have decided to expand on the talent that they have there, even though removing the Sigil titles was a grave mistake.

Looks like Dark Horse is really trying to squeeze every penny they can get out of their Star Wars license.

I might get the Galactic TPB and the first volume of Samurai Executioner.

Actually, their Star Wars books look really good this month, particularly the Yoda one-shot, Infinities TPB, and Tales.

Gotcha, Gil. I see what you mean.

I'm kinda curious about the Creatures of the Night and Samurai Executioner books myself. I love Michael Zulli's work, and Gaiman is always nice. As for the other, I've always heard about Lone Wolf and Cub but never read it. This would be a good time for me to give it a try.

And, maybe its just me, but there is something very cool about the stationary and journals and Tim Burton figurines (sp?) and all that. I haven't bought any yet, but every time I see them I stop to consider it.
