Has Nyx been cancelled?

Feb 25, 2004, 08:10 pm
Bout frickin time Marvel collected Essential X-Men #5! WOHO! And thank you David Finch for finally putting Rogue on an Ultimate X-Men cover! About time for that too!!!! The Reload stuff doesn't really excite me that much, is that sad? I think it is, if I knew where Rogue and Gambit were going maybe I'd be a little more excited but I'm just not. I'm going to miss X-Treme most of all.... It was my favorite book with my favorite cast:( Well good things don't last forever.....

Inferno256

I'm also excited to find out who the new Excalibur artist is. But I still want to know about Nyx's future...it's a great book.

I'm very much interested in the X-Men titles this month. I'm currious what rosters will be featured in which titles and a more detailed explanation of the concepts of each series. (Comixfan, are you guys looking into that, yet?) ;)

The covers are beautiful this month as well. One minor complaint though, Secret War #2 is the exact same cover with the exception of featuring Wolverine instead of Spidey! I was expecting other hero profiles to be in the back... Picky? Okay, I'll shut up now.

Essential X-men Vol.5. Have it!

And on the Exiles cover, I recognise 5 of them [mimic, morph, blink, sasquatch, nocturne, but whose that in the background looking away? Magick ain't blue?!?!?!

Oh and Dust in New X-Men: Academy X as well, Back of the net!

Lets see, I will be continuing to get...

1. Daredevil.
2. She-Hulk.
3. Amazing Spider-Man.
4. Spider-Girl.
5. Captain America and Falcon.
6. Fantastic Four.
7. Emma Frost.
8. Mystique.
9. Ultimate Fantastic Four.
10. Supreme Power.

And i'll be adding to my pull list...

1. Astonising X-Men.
2. Weapon X.

So my Marvel Pull has actuily gone up by two this month, not bad Marvel.

I just have one question, with Wolverine appearing over and over in his spandex uniform does that mean that a return to spandex is coming? Please god say it ain't so!

Drackdallion
Feb 25, 2004, 09:12 pm
COuld it be that the characters left out of the image in Excalibur`s cover are the ones that make the roster?. Angel (who we all know IS part of the book), Jubilee, Northstar, Chamber and Karma... and probably Shadowcat (but I think it`s safe to assume Kitty`s the beautiful one with the yellow "cat-like" glasses on) (also.. mayba that`s not Kitty but Rachel?) (if it`s kitty then the one on the cover of Astonishing could really be Cecilia Reyes? `cause the look it`s too diferent). Also is that Siryn next to Sam?
I hope Andy Park takes over as artist of the book replacing Kordey!! his x-men look cool!!!!

Oh! and I LOVE the New X-Men (formerly New Mutants), the new uniforms are cool and kinda sexy. Amazing. I love Sofia`s look. Of course they all look sad, this turn of events Emma and Scott are putting them trough is not what they expected. Chiristina and Nunzio will probably make this a great ride, it has been so far!!!

Man!! my head is spinning so fast I`m ranting too much hehe!!!:D
so... bye;)

Is Marvel trying to punish people for becoming Iron Man fans? 2 I can understand, having 3 in one month due to delays I can understand, but soliciting 3? Yeesh.

I'm noticing the weekly lists are incomplete, so I'll just list the issues.

Definatly:
EXILES #46 & 47
ALPHA FLIGHT #3
4 #6
FANTASTIC FOUR #513
IRON MAN #81 & 82, 83
SUPREME POWER #10

Maybe(Based on cast of new x-books, artist and money.):
ASTONISHING X-MEN #1
UNCANNY X-MEN #444
X-MEN #157
NEW X-MEN: ACADEMY X #1
EXCALIBUR #1
WEAPON X #23 & 24
EMMA FROST #11
ULTIMATE X-MEN #46
WOLVERINE #15
DAREDEVIL #60
X-STATIX #23
CAPTAIN AMERICA & THE FALCON #3

Wolverine's old spandex with some modifications is.....okay. but I liked his old jacket too. Oh well........

Feb 25, 2004, 09:28 pm
I too, love the New X-Men costumes. Classic spandex with a modern coolness and such. Yeah.

So, I'll be getting:

Astonishing X-Men
Excalibur
Uncanny X-Men
New X-Men
Adjectiveless X-Men
Exiles
Ultimate X-Men
Ultimate FF
Emma Frost
Runaways

Wasn't X-Men:The End supposed to come out? Also, Nyx?

Feb 25, 2004, 09:38 pm
I'm glad to see the costumes come back. I want my super heroes back, I think the "I'm too cool for spandex" additude should stay with the independent titles.
I really think Teri is the best man to be clearing up the Weapon X( Plus) storyline. It would be nice to see them clear up all the mystery behind Wolverines past and Weapon X and just move on with it.

I dig the costumes. The loss of the costumes was one of the things that sent me to DC for a while, but this may help win me back.

Feb 25, 2004, 09:49 pm
That Daredevil: Father cover looks terrible. It seems as though Quesada tried to copy Sienkewicz's version of Daredevil and it just turned out wrong.

And forget mutant academy X or whatever it's called now, no Barberi, none of my money.

Very nice mansion redesign though. I tip my hat to Caliafore.

Dylan McKay
Feb 25, 2004, 09:51 pm
It's funny, it's because Barberi's gone that I'm thinking of picking it back up again, he's the reason I dropped it...

And I definatly like the new costumes for the team. I like non-spandex costumes sometimes, but most of the current X-costumes are pretty crumby. Xtreme was the only title that could get it right IMO.

Feb 25, 2004, 09:56 pm
I'm all excited... like the loser I am. I think I'll keep Emma Frost, Exiles, Mystique, Ultimate X-Men, Uncanny X-Men (at least sometimes -- like before), and Weapon X. I'm adding Academy X, District X (maybe -- depends on reviews), and whatever book (or books) Cannonball, Rogue, and Gambit end up in. Now I'm just wondering about NYX... and I'm curious about the new Invaders series, Ultimates (Vol. 2), and X-Men: The End. *squeels with joy* This is great!! Adios.

I'm at a loss right now. So Many titles look good it's time for some drastic additions and cutbacks. However that New Mutants cover (New Xmen: Mutant Academy Bah!) looks awesome and i love the way that plot is going. At all else I’ll still be getting Runaways.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Uncanny cover is really stark and dull? The Iceman one is great, but I would have liked to see more than just Nightcrawler's tail.

Feb 25, 2004, 10:22 pm
The Iceman cover looks really cool... unfortunately, that appareantly means that he's in the Chuck Austen book. Well, I'll try not to be negative and give it a chance, who knows, it may be a better than his run on Uncanny (like his work on Exiles, he was awesome on that.)

Comics for, like, 60 years had bright spandex. I'm all for updating things, but superheroes are supposed to be be bright and larger that life. It's good to see wolvie almost back in the good old yellow with the ears.

getting rid of spandex was just another step in the slow evolution of comics....marvel in the 60's added real cities and heroes with real world problems, in the 70's they moved on the more contemporary themes, drugs, racism, sexism,...etc...the 80's brought more charactization, complex plots and the 90's beleive it not brought more realism to the art.....(yes while Jim Lee's heroes had unbeleiveable bodies, they looked more like real people..Alex Ross was the apex of this realism).....Morrison just pushed it a bit more....uniforms that looked like real clothes but retained the motifs of each character.......this was a further evolution of brings comics into the real world and heightening the drama.....

my guess is that Ultimate will be where "realism" will be the asthetic and the old 616 universe will be the tired "back to basics" approach....the Morrison experiment was a failure in that it did not ultimately expand the universe of comic readers as hope but damn it was a worthy effort and i think was pointing in the right direction.....

I think wolvies new costume is spiffy so lets see for team line ups we got.

Uncanny
Nightcrawler
Sage
Storm

Looks like alot of the 'big leaguers' will be in Astonishing, which is cool. It feels like some writers are just changing titles and taking their characters with them. Uncanny by CC hasBishop, Sage and Storm, Austen is taking iceman and I assume most of uncanny's old cast (although luckily nightcrawler escaped. phew).
Iwould really love to see CC writing Juggernaught as an X-man, so hopefully he'll appear in Uncanny or Excalibur.
Anyone have any ideas on who's drawing Excalibur by the way?

I'd say that Excalibur cover is pretty bad, as it is both moody and too cartoony. A better fit could've been made for the first issue of this new series. Also, isn't Warren a main character in this series? He's not even on the cover, or as far I can tell. Although, Park's cover for Weapon X isn't too bad.

Damn, I'm still deciding on the Handbook. It does seem "fanboyish" but it seems cool still.

I'm definitely getting Astonishing despite the uniform change that I disagree with. Oh well, that's only a minor problem.

FINAL ORDER CUT-OFF 4/15 (ON SALE 5/5)

The Official Handbook of The Marvel Universe: X-Men 2004, aside from Astonishing this is going to be my biggest thrill for May.
Uncanny X-Men #444, I never read X-Treme because first it was the concept and second it was the art that put me off, but I like the characters expecially Storm and Sage.

FINAL ORDER CUT-OFF 4/22 (ON SALE 5/12)

Emma Frost #11, great series, great writing, great character.
Excalibur #1, concept sounds different to any of the other books, and what anyone was expecting, I think it has alot of potential, glad that Kordey is off this book but not that he's been fired, his style has a place, just not here.

FINAL ORDER CUT-OFF 4/29 (ON SALE 5/19)

New X-Men: Academy X #1, never read New Mutants but I want to give this new series a shot out of curiosity, don't really know the characters and I don't really like the uniforms though.
X-Men #157, Austen for me has been hit and miss, some of his work good and I mean real good and the other bad, really bad (DRACO).

FINAL ORDER CUT-OFF 5/6 (ON SALE 5/26)
Astonishing X-Men #1, this will be the best and the new flagship title of the X-Men, anyone doubting this now won't be when it comes out in may.
Excalibur #2
Ultimate X-Men #46, I love Brian K. Vaughn on Y: The Last Man so this is a definite, and I would like to get back into Ultimate, I left after the end of the first arc and the art looks to be good too.

Because I'm dropping Mystique, have already dropped Avengers & Amazing Spider-Man, and the cancellation of X-Treme, I'm going to give all 5 of the main X-books a shot. Yeah, I promised myself I'd even give Austen a whole arc before deciding whether to drop or not. As to Academy X, unless it's freakin' amazing, I'm only planning on getting it for the first arc.

And where the crap is the Ultimates Hardcover?

Getting:

I also like the brown costume a lot more.

I have the Marvel Previews and the new costume looks to me like a mix between the classic yellow costume and the Ultimate costume. The "ears" are smaller than they've been for a while. No "horns" on the boots either.

Beast seems to still look feline (--sigh--), but appears to have hands and feet instead of paws.

I read the Astonishing script excerpt too. Logan, Scott, Emma, Kitty, and Hank. What an odd combination. But I will pick it up, because it seems interesting.

In the core X-Books they could have put the rosters, some nice action or even another pin-up. What do we get instead? Characters body parts. Three of the most boring covers I've seen in a lot of time.

I was interested n Excalibur until it was anounced that they fired Kordey.

Weapon-X has the first clear image of Wolverine's new costume. It's oficial and it looks like crap! They hire Tom Mandrake, who draws such a wonderfull, gritty Wolverine and then make him draw him in that costume.

Ultimate X-Men- No more Finch? I hope he gets something great to work in next, because I love his art.

Wolverine/Punisher- Am I the only one who thinks that, given Wolverine's facial expression and the fact that he is crouching, he is about to do something that will force him to wipe himself with some leafs when he is done? Food for thought.

Wolverine#15's cover is just fabulous. Logan and Creed just look fantastic, gritty, savage. Just wonderfull!! At least until #18, I know this book won't dissapoint me.

Great cover in Hulk.

Daredevil #60
Ultimate X-Men #45 & 46
X-Statix #23 (I'm hoping the title will redeem itself with the Avengers arc)

That's the least I've ever gotten from Marvel in a month. I'll probably wait for Uncanny and Astonishing to come out in trade. For some reason, I'm not that all that excited about Reload.

I just have one question, with Wolverine appearing over and over in his spandex uniform does that mean that a return to spandex is coming? Please god say it ain't so!

I hope the spandex comes back. I'm so sick of the quasi-movie look. Black leather? Might as well be spandex. More fun and colorful and brings back that old school feeling from the 60's-90's. Whoever brought those ugly yellow/black jackets and pants into the comics should be fired... whoops, they probably already were. Welcome back colorful costumes!

O.K. some comments

Exiles #46 - A great new creative team, CrossGen has some of the top talent and marvel needs to use them as well
The Official Handbook of The Marvel Universe: X-Men 2004 - Sounds very cool, Since it has reload material does it has Igors Excalbur stuff??? it would be funny if it did.
Spider-Girl #73 -
Supreme Power #10 - They sound so great but I'll either get the tpb or hardcover(depends if the hardcover has any special features)
Thanos #10 - Kieth you are great, can't afford another book but I can afford another tpb to get
Uncanny X-Men #444 - Wow I am so so happy, this is just great

FINAL ORDER CUT-OFF 4/22 (ON SALE 5/12)
4 #6 - Lots of hype, no money. The book for sure will be tpb so then I'll get it
Avengers #82 - Meh
Captain America #26 - Wow Bachalo is on the top of his game, 6 issues no breaks, I thought he would need a fill in artist, I am very impressed
District X #1 - sounds O.K. but I'll pass
Emma Frost #11 - A great comic I'm glad they did not change it
Excalibur #1 - Well I don't think this will come out on this date, I wish they kept Igor
Iron Man #81 - 3 issues this month WOW
Mystique #14 - Why did Vaughan leave and Ryan too. I saw Manuels Mystique not good at all his avengers was sooo much better and Ryan is so so so much better than him, and why take Vaughan off the book. Does marvel want to sabatoge this comic and get ride of a great writer and send him off to DC. So far Vaughan is doing 4(? maybe more maybe less) issues of Unlimited X-men then he will be done and Singer will write it. Then there is Runaways which I'm sure is great but how long can it last with its sales I give it a little after 18 maybe 24 or 25 issues and then Vaughan will be gone writer the critically acclaimed fan-fav DC/Vertigo comic Y the last man and nothing for marvel. Mystique was the only Tusami (SP) title that could last. Now I don't have much hope in Mystique lasting long.
Weapon X #23 - Bring back Georges or another artist after Mandrakes unlimted issue why does marvel think this counts as reload, give Weapon X a good (by good I mena higher profile, great artist) no offence to Mandrake but marvel wants weapon X to sell better bring a bigger artist on board

FINAL ORDER CUT-OFF 4/29 (ON SALE 5/19)
Captain Marvel #23 - Keep Lopristi
Fantastic Four #513 - Sounds very cool, I wonder who this woman is, Waid said in an interview in 2004 you do not want to be Sue Richards, could this woman be part of it??
New X-Men: Academy X #1 - Sounds very good I just can't afford it
X-Men #157 - Bring back the New, Why do they have to have Chuck write it why

FINAL ORDER CUT-OFF 4/29 (ON SALE 5/26)
Secret War #2 - I can't wait

FINAL ORDER CUT-OFF 5/6 (ON SALE 5/26)
Astonishing X-Men #1 - Sounds spectacular Wheadon Cassaday yay
Avengers #83 - again meh
Avengers/Thunderbolts #4 - I like the interlocking cover
Excalibur #2 - guess this won't come out
Mystique #15 - See issue 14
Weapon X #24 - see issue 23
Wolverine/Punisher #3- get a new cover
X-Statix #23 - I love the art in this book, DC should get him to do a Silver Age Legion story

Man, I just cannot wait for TONY BEDARD ON EXILES!

I am so excited! Negation is hands down the best comic out there, in my opinion, and Tony Bedard writes an amazing all out action sci-fi romp on Negation, as well as the twisted Route 666, and just finished up a hilarious run on Mystic!

Marvel fans, do yourself a favor, and pick up Negation back issues or trades, or at the very least start getting Negation War, starting next month, for a preview on how AWESOME Exiles is going to be!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Wolverine is in desperate need of a costume update.. and not the simple "tweak" of his Yellow and Blue uniform. It served it's purpose in the 70's and in the 90's (the brown costume in the 80's looked cooler, but one felt that something was missing from that outfit, so yes the yellow costume had more style).

Still, This is the new millenium, and I can come up with a better design than the one Marvel recently came out with (ok bravo for losing the blue undies, but shifting the blue color to the sides of the pants isn't that much of an improvement). Again, he needs a darker outfit. I say a combination between his movie outfit and the yellow outfit. The flap mask would look exactly the same, he can retain his shoulder pads, but have the rest be all-black, with his claw satripes on the sides and on top be outlined in yellow, and the overall tosro shouldn't look too different from the movie's tosro. Wolvie needs a hi-tech outfit man!!

Must Haves:
Astonishing X-Men
District X
Emma Frost
Exiles
New X-Men: Academy X
Ultimate X-Men
Weapon X

Possabilities:
Excalibur
Uncanny X-Men
(adjectiveless) X-Men

I have to see which characters end up where. I'm going to follow Cannonball, Gambit, and Rogue -- so I could end up with all of 'em. Who knows?? Just thought I'd share. Adios.

I've seen that deign before Gonzalez, still feels too dry. They should have the skull cap remain yellow, shoulder pads intact (recognize the lack of shoulder pads in that pic?), and the stripes shouldn't be fully yellow, but outlined (remember how they look on the X-Men movie?). The outfit could be drawn to not resemble a form fitting spandex, but a leather battle suit like in the movie. I'm imagining a hybrid between a superhero suit and a realistic battlesuit similar to the one in the films. Boots would be the same exact ones he wears in "Ultimate X-Men" (army boots).

Arg, why bring back the yellow? Morrion even had him call it stupid, it doesn't make sense! It made more sense before.... why? WHY? Hes more recognizable without the mask now, with all the promotion for the movie, and in both movies he didn't have a mask... From a monetary standpoint, and a common sense standpoint.... why would he put the mask back on? He can see and hear better without it... I don't understand...

How about the new announcement that Aaron Lopresti is now the artist on Excalibur? It's going to look absolutely beautiful now!

Marvel knows talent! They've got both Aaron Lopresti and Tony Bedard from CrossGen's Mystic. Aaron made Giselle stunningly beautiful (looking forward to his take on some X-babes), and Tony made for an intricate, interesting, and overall humorous book!

I think Lopresti has been holding back on Captain Marvel, because his stuff on Mystic was outrageous! Hopefully he gets unleashed on Excalibur, and we see that incredibly detailed art and beautiful women (even if we likely won't see his dinosaurs!)

If Exiles is even half as good as Negation is, well Marvel just got me to pick up two books I wasn't planning on, just by assigning likely the best writer in comics (imho) and one of the most exciting artists. It's CrossGen Reloaded! I mean, X-Men Reloaded! I'm excited a lot of others will finally get to see these two.

For a real treat, pick up Mystic #31-43 for some of the best Aaron Lopresti stuff [Tony Bedard also writes those], and Negation 1-27 for the ultimate in HOLY $@#! writing from Tony Bedard - if THOSE don't help sell copies of Exiles and Excalibur, nothing will! Sheesh, I know now that I HAVE to check them out. Thanks Marvel! No, really!

The day I've been waiting for is here, return of Claremont. I know this isn't a popular opinion, but i missed costumes. I missed continuity (i can't spell who cares). I liked the Scottish guys stories too yal, but his plan to boil down the characters to their essential beings was crap. When I started reading X-Men it was issue 258, talk about hard to tell what's going on, but i did what countless others did. I when to the comic store and started digging through backissues. I finally stopped when Classic X-Men caught up with my backissues that begain at issue 150. Characters are built and taking away the events and relationships that made them makes them flat. Take Wolverine for instance under Claremont, Wolverine is the failed samuria that struggles with his personal demons and acts as a moral compass for the team. Under the Scottish guy, crazy take no crap guy. Mabey I'm wrong, but I've found that even though his stories where great these great characters in them became somewhat less. I thought i was reading the Authority with X's on their clothes. Characters that were close to each other seemed to not care about each other when they interact. Just my humble opinion.

Personally, I'm looking forward to ALL the Reload X-titles. Even the new ones (as well as the ones being renamed, and the ones that feature new creative teams) sound promising, such as District X, New X-Men: Academy X, Exiles. And I like the fact that Morrison-ism is still going to be felt in May, with Beak in Exiles, Fantomex in Weapon X, Dust in New X-Men: Academy X.

Good time to be an x-fan!

Uncanny X-men
Excaliber
Astonishing X-men

... is that all I'm getting?

I'm not getting Academy X, since it's not a core title, or at least no more a core title than New Mutants was.
I'm not getting District X, since all signs point to an early death.
Weapon X has become a Wolverine title, which means I'm avoiding it like the plague, Fantomex being in there doesn't help change that situation, only enforce it.
I'm staying well away from X-men, since Austen is writing that one, and I'm not wasting my money on the products that carry his name.
Exiles still is a throwaway title, no matter who they're goint to put on it, it's the concept, not the team.
Alfa Flight, I head not even the writer of this series takes it seriously, so why should I bother?
Emma Frost, still Greg Horn covers, but I never cared about the character, and the previews don't spark any sort of emotion that forces me to pick it up, it's more of the same, the young years of Emma Frost, it's basically like Titanic, we know how it ends, before it even begins.
Mystique, mildly interested, but I never liked the character. I liked her as a villain, but not a hero.

There aren't any titles that scream Buy Me, Pick Me Up Now! Like 1602 did a while ago (and god I'm still not quite sure whether it was a good or a bad move to start picking that series up.

and what's up with this Marvel Age stuff? Another re-telling of past stories, what is this, the four-hundreth time that we're going to get to hear the story of how the Fantastic Four came to be?
Not interested in that.

so yes, those three titles are the only thing I'm getting...

must be old age.

X-Men

Astonishing X-Men - issue 1
Uncanny X-Men - issue 444
X-Men - issue 157
Exiles - issues 46 & 47

Marvel Knights

4 - issue 6
Wolverine - issue 15

Marvel Heroes

Avengers - issues 82 & 83

I think that's what I will be getting. Only two months ago, I got 7 titles a month, all X-Men. See, after only 12 years of getting comics, I'm expanding my horizons!

Well, it actually is a core title. At least that's what Mike Marts tells us and what he and Joe Quesada have said in interviews.

The big difference between New Mutants and New X-Men: Academy X, in terms of core-book status is that we are not following some other book's lead on the school.

Scott and Emma are regulars in our book, and the major school-related decisions made them will be made in our book.

That, I think, is why they want this considered a core book and thus why they gave it the New X-Men name.
