Previously:

Cai's past is largely unknown, only that he and his brother, Wolfram von Bach, grew up serving the church. Cai eventually became leader of the Brotherhood of the Sword, a cadre of knights under the command of Archbishop Helmut von Krakhauer.

Now:

Learning of the presence of an Eldritch witch in the village of Novgorod, Archbishop Helmut von Krakhauer sent the Brotherhood of the Sword in to investigate. Tipped off by a journeyman, Cai led his Brothers to an abandoned church on the outskirts of Novgorod and found the witch. The Brotherhood of the Sword confronted the Eldritch woman, Lady Death. They subjected her to an inquisition. She passed their tests, which incited battle. During the fray, Cai leveled a sword at Lady Death's throat and demanded to know the location of his brother Wolfram von Bach. Wolf arrived and announced his independence from the church and his alliance with Lady Death. Cai and the Brotherhood of the Sword bested Lady Death and Wolf in battle. The captives were then brought before the corrupt Archbishop Helmut von Krakhauer, who sentenced them to death. Lady Death and Wolf escaped, but found themselves trapped by Cai and his knights at the edge of an enormous chasm and certain death. Hope and Wolf were mysteriously rescued from death at the hands of Archbishop Krakhauer’s Knights. Cai's face was scarred in the melee. Cai was granted the assistance of the deadly Scarlet Riders by the Archbishop, and immediately followed his brother, who was hot on the heels of Lady Death, heading for Novgorod to exact vengeance on her mother’s murderer. Their battle was interrupted by a siege on the small village from Eldritch hunters. Cai barely escaped the slaughter with his life. [Lady Death: A Medieval Tale #3-6]
