Erik Lensherr’s life changed after the death of his friend Charles Xavier. After his friend died saving him from the madman he knew only as Legion, Erik took his dream for human and mutant co-existence and would try to make reality. Erik Lensherr named himself Magneto and over the years, recruited young mutants to help in his cause. Naming his students the X-Men, Magneto trained them to use their powers at a school located at Wundagore Mountain. When Quicksilver notified Magneto of Apocalypse and his Horsemen attacking the nuclear base at Cape Citadel, Magneto led the X-Men into their first mission. Returning from their victory, the X-Men found their home destroyed and Magneto found his daughter dead. Eventually Magneto found Nemesis, his daughter’s killer, and took his revenge on him, but Nemesis survived. Despite the X-Men’s valiant efforts to end the threat of Apocalypse, they were forced to fall back time and again, and Apocalypse took control of North America. Magneto’s morale took a turn downward after all this, but strove on. At one point in his life, Magneto and one-time X-Man Forge teamed up with Nate Grey, who was from their world, but had just arrived from the original world. Together, the three of them defeated the Sugar Man and stopped his Pentinance Plague.

Once Magneto had to leave Jean behind during a battle. Weapon X was furious about this went after Jean on his own. He later returned to Magneto with Jean and a missing hand. Weapon X told Magneto that he and Jean were leaving and never coming back. This hurt Magneto deeply and was distracted from his duties. After surviving a knife wound, Rogue confided in Magneto that she would always be there for him. Magneto started to develop feelings for Rogue, but she was also attracted to Gambit. Later Magneto used his powers to be able to touch Rogue. Gambit was jealous and attacked Magneto. Before their argument could continue any further, Wolverine and a band of human traitors attacked the X-Men’s New Mexico Base. Magneto was injured in the attack but was saved by Rogue and Gambit, who left after the battle. Afterwards, Magneto used his power at a great extent to crash Apocalypse’s Celestial Ship. In the process of doing this, Magneto’s power was reduced to half. Sometime after this, Magneto and Rogue were married and later had a son named Charles, after Magneto’s old friend.

On a mission in Seattle, Magneto and his X-Men rescued the mutant vagabond known as Bishop. After they have taken Bishop to their new home in Westchester, Magneto had wife Rogue absorb Bishop’s memories. Bishop’s memories were passed on to Rogue and Magneto, ad they saw that their world wasn’t meant to be. To further prove Bishop’s claims, Magneto sent out various teams to find the proof and those who can help restore the original reality. Meanwhile Magneto sent his X-Men to fend off the Horsemen as they conducted their cullings. When Nanny warned Magneto that Apocalypse was coming, Magneto went to Charles Xavier’s gravesite to confront the High Lord, and lost. Magneto was taken prisoner to Apocalypse’s Citadel where tortured for the High Lord’s amusement. Once Apocalypse heard of the Human High Council’s bombings, Magneto was about to be executed. As Nate Grey arrived to save Magneto and fight off Holocaust, Magneto was reunited with his wife and team. Magneto and Bishop then convinced young Illyana Rasputin to help them send Bishop back in time to correct this timeline. As the X-Men held off the Infinites and other of Apocalypse’s soldiers, Magneto and Rogue went after Apocalypse. As Rogue went to save their son, Magneto took on Apocalypse. As Apocalypse strangled Magneto, he concentrated his powers enough and tore Apocalypse in half. Reunited with his wife and son for the last time, Magneto faced the nuclear explosions that were about to destroy them. Before their reality changed back Magneto thanked the spirit of Charles Xavier in changing his life for the good of human- and mutantkind.
