Iceman has been with the X-Men since their first battle with Apocalypse at Cape Citadel. Under the guidance of Magneto Iceman has gain full control over his powers. During the years of fighting against Apocalypse and his forces, Iceman has been shattered and pulled back together so many times, he can no longer return to human form.
At the beginning of the Sentinel Airlift, the X-Men tried to reprogram the Sentinels so they wouldn't attack them. Just before the X-Men discovered that the Brotherhood had reprogrammed the Sentinels to help them, one of the giant robots shot and blew apart Iceman. When Iceman reformed himself, the X-Men gained some control over the Sentinels. Iceman then helped in fully reprogramming them, and continued evacuating the humans.
When the X-Men returned home and found it recently invaded, Quicksilver sent Iceman to find Rogue and bring her back. He found Rogue just in time to pull her off a Tele-Platform that would've taken both her and Holocaust to Apocalypse's fortress.
Once regrouped with the other teams from their separate missions. The X-Men launch a full assault on Apocalypse. During the battle Colossus tried to reach his sister in the M'Kraan Crystal. Iceman got in the way in an effort to stop him, but Colossus broke through him and Iceman was shattered for the last time.
