Possessing the mutant power of clairvoyance, the blind woman called Destiny was instrumental in Magneto's plan to undo the "Age of Apocalypse", which is why the X-Men's leader sent Nightcrawler and Mystique to Avalon, the mysterious hidden refuge where Destiny was living.
When the X-Man and his mother arrived, Destiny refused to return to the "real world" outside Avalon with them, and only the death of her adopted son, Doug Ramsey, at the hands of Apocalypse's minions convinced her that she had to help the X-Men's cause.
In the end, Destiny-- along with the young teleporter Illyana Rasputin and the cosmic M'Kraan Crystal-- enabled Bishop to go back in time, prevent Legion from killing the young Xavier, and thereby undo the "Age of Apocalypse" timeline.
