Cecil McAdam was originally a reverend in the Church of Thor in the year 2099. So desperate to be like his god, McAdam was a prime subject for the Alchemax corporation to use in their plan to fool the populace of 2099 that the Aesir of Norse mythology had returned, and so transformed McAdam with nanotechnology into a fake Thor.
The Thor of 2099 was possessed of hyper-accelerated senses and reflexes thanks to Alchemax's neurotechnology. He wielded a technologically-crafted version of the real Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, that was powered by ionic energy.
Thor clashed with Doom and the X-Men of 2099 when they attempted to shut down the floating city of Valhalla. After destroying the equipment that kept the city afloat, the false Thor was caught in an explosion that resulted from the Punisher of 2099 using Thor's ionic-powered hammer to stop Valhalla's fall. Thor was rendered powerless and reverted back to his human form of Reverend Cecil McAdam.
