Out of all the titles here, I picked Sentinel, even though I would have liked to have chosen Mystique too.

Gus Beezer, baby! Woohoo!

Coming in second would be Venom and Runaways, though.

I voted for Venom. And I'll also definitely be getting Gus Beezer. I possibly might check out Mystique, Human Torch, and Sentinel too. But as of right now Venom and Gus Beezer are the only ones I'm totally sold on.

I voted for none; find none really interesting and besides that i see tsunami as a cheap marketing stunt.

I voted none. Mystique might be a good read , but I'd prefer to see interesting villians like her be used occasionally, rather than watch them become overexposed. If the best villians are otherwise occupied in their own titles the main books suffer.

Gus beezer is a limited series so I can wait for it to be collected as a TPB.

As for the rest , while I might check them out ,its more of a "wait and see" type of vibe than an "I can't wait" type of vibe.

I voted Mystique. She's a fascinating character with a lot of history and depth, and is being written by Brian Vaughn, who is, in my opinion, one of the best new writers in comics.

I'm finding Runaways the most interesting concept from there! If I had the money, I'd buy, Mystique, Sentinel and Human Torch too, but C'est La Vie!

I voted Sentinel but also plan on picking up Runaways, Namor, and Venom as well. Perhaps Mystique too... although I don't know what Runaways or Mystique is supposed to be about.. i'm sure there is an article around here somewhere.

I put a vote in for Sentinel, but I'll probably give them all a try. Torch and Venom are the other ones that I'm really interested in.

As I understand it these are on-going with the exception of Gus Beezer.

I voted for Human Torch, but none of these titles really seem that great.

I voted none of the above. I have no money to spend on these and none of the writers/artists blow me away. I also hate Manga art which doestn help one bit. I was interested in Venom a little bit until i saw the Artists issue of Peter Parekr SPider-man which was ugly and overly exagerated. I could barely tell what was happening on the pages at times. I know he emulates Ramos but even Ramos isnt that hard to follow !.

I voted for Mystique, it looks so good but I really hope it last's long
to me I don't really know if the tsunami lines will last long.
I might pick upthe human torch one
and I'll get the 25 cent Namor issue

on previews it said that one and two were 25 cents is that right? then I'll get number two too.

I picked Venom for a lot of reasons. One of them is because I have been wanting to see him in his own ongoing series for quite some time, and now that it is finally happening I couldn't be even more excited than I am right now. Another reason would be that the premise of the book is really interesting. The Venom symbiote is now able to jump from host to host, leaving a trail of dead bodies in its wake. Actually, that idea has been tossed around before.

When Venom last returned (Peter Parker: Spider-Man Vol. 2, #9), the symbiote bonded with a homeless man named Moe Edwards. He had been drinking to his buddy Joey Z when the symbiote took control of him. Moe rejected the symbiote, and so it relinqueshed its hold on him in favor of searching for Peter Parker and Eddie Brock. Moe lived, I think, and it's quite possible he was never seen again but I'm not entirely sure. This time around when the Venom symbiote jumps from host to host, it will be quite different if each one of them dies.

I voted Namor. I've always liked him for some stupid reason. If I could vote more than once, it would be for Mystique and Gus Beezer. They both should be great.

VENOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feb 2, 2003, 12:42 pm
none of them.. they all stink of "new universe" promotion and substance.

If I was forced to buy one, it would be Mystique, just because the art on the covers of the others was down right terrible. The Venom cover was nice, but "been there, done that" a decade ago.

i voted for Namor. Andi Watson is doing major work for Marvel!!! anybody here read any Andi Watson book? what? you don't know Andi Watson? oh well...:(

Runaways is a close second. Brian Vaughan is good.

i hope that these books could really penetrate the bookstore and manga crowd. one good thing that we established comic book readers should remember is that these books are not aimed ONLY at us and are marketed to appeal to an untapped audience, so comments like "been there, done that" really stinks of an elitist attitude, which is the last thing the shrinking comic book market needs right now...

All these titles are quite different and unexpected from Marvel. A romance with Namor? A kids comedy? A romance about a boy and his sentinel? Teen drama? Although, I say this, it's definitely not bad. Venom, Torch, and Mystique are the only titles that seem to be grounded closer to the Marvel core.

I agree Erwin. Hopefully these reach the bookshelf market with success. It definitely seems like they're the right material. All they need is the right advertising and methods to reach the audience.
